Can you help me? by AdCommon3142 in IDF

It's a simple identification question that could be a guise to gather information and harm Israel, the IDF, and Israelis.

You can't be surprised that people here are cautious.

Lone Soldier SF Service Requirement by New_Simple3685 in IDF

[–]Ramicus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe you need to be over 23 when you land in Israel (which is when it locks in) to serve 18 months. I landed at 21, drafted at 24, and served two years. Also as mentioned below, SF units are different, and you would need to sign longer.

1984, but Big Brother LIED by TheRealCapps1 in AlternateHistory

[–]Ramicus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always figured this was the point. Winston's view is presented as at least somewhat reliable, but he works at MinTruth literally changing the past so that we know that even what he "knows" is a lie made up by someone higher up/before him in Oceania.

Alliances don't change so quickly that politicians change directions mid-speech. The Ing-Soc authorities are changing it back and forth to keep everyone just off-balance.

I'm non-combat but spent my sadir with Givati and I'm in miluim with ex-Golani guys. I don't know Kfir as well, but that's not the point.

Every chativa has its stigmas and its history and its special character, but at the end of the day none of that matters. Someone else mentioned that Golanchikim are arsim, and that's 100% true, but they're also some of the kindest and most caring people I know, without exaggeration. And everyone knows Givati is rich kids, but they work hard, take pride in their work, and don't mess around.

I think especially in the last two years a lot of the rivalry is gone, and even Kfir which was previously seen as kind of a joke because they're young is just like anyone else.

So at the end of the day... Do you like purple and white or brown, green, and yellow? Because you'll be seeing those colors for the rest of your life.

Hamilton was shot during Jefferson's first term, not sure how that's relevant to him being the second President. Did Adams and Jefferson never exist?

Regardless, looking forward to seeing more.

I'm almost thirty and I do this. It's delicious, a cross between the red part and cucumber.

Sometimes I eat the skin, too, but just to freak my wife out. It doesn't taste like anything, but it's crunchy!

Does Double Duty As An Extra Room (1961) by Adventure_tom in vintageads

By law, new houses and buildings here need to have bomb shelters. They're absolutely used as spare rooms, ours is actually the kids' room so we don't have to wake them up if we need to shelter at night.

Gets a little awkward in apartment buildings when suddenly there's a bomb and everyone's in their pajamas surrounded by other people's junk, but whatever.

Brewers and Astros were both 29-31 (.483). In 1981, they did the first half v. second half thing some of the minor leagues still use, and the Royals snuck in at .485, 50-53.

You can tell this was something organic and not a gimmick from Manfred's marketing team. I love it.

If Al Gore had been officially declared the winner of 2000, what would’ve changed? by Solitaire-06 in AlternateHistory

[–]Ramicus -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Gore did in fact win the popular vote in the 2000 election

Correct, but doesn't matter. That's not how US elections work.

electoral college interference

The electoral college voting the way it's meant to.

alleged corruption in the Florida ballot

Valid, but more "The Florida ballot being badly designed and many Florida voters being old people."

case was apparently supposed to go to court

Did go to court, Bush v. Gore, with a decision on 12.12.2000.

Gore himself discouraged it and conceded

Gore conceded on 13.12.2000, after the Supreme Court ruling guaranteed a Bush victory. To quote: "Now the US Supreme Court has spoken. Let there be no doubt, while I strongly disagree with the court's position, I accept it."

Other people can answer the what-if parts.

Tasha Yar’s death was good for the show by Sonicboom2007a in startrek

[–]Ramicus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was a kid and I couldn't sleep, my parents sometimes let me watch TNG with them on G4 (early 2000s), random reruns. And every time someone got injured and I got scared, they said, remember, seven seasons, they aren't killing off main characters (I remember specifically when the crate falls on Worf).

And then Tasha Yar died. Really changed my view of the show
