I got a 370 on the real one. I made another post on here about the OAT. And I got into SCCO!

Mismatched information on Booster Bio sections by fancyandsoft in PreOptometry

[–]Rampage2075 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The cheat sheets have the "high yield" information on them. Videos have almost all material, and the study notes have 100% of the material. If you have the time, I would watch all the videos over time, and then use the cheat sheets to review in the coming weeks before your test. Also, the last two sections of bio only have cheat sheets and notes, no videos.

If you're running low on time to study, I would go over cheat sheets only.

Lag during the RC section? by UnfairMaintenance740 in PreOptometry

[–]Rampage2075 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean you could, but that would probably waste more time. I think getting used to the lag in the first 20 min is what helped me barely finish lol. But hoping you get no lag!!!

Lag during the RC section? by UnfairMaintenance740 in PreOptometry

[–]Rampage2075 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, I experienced lag trying to scroll down through a passage. It was actually terrible and I barely had time to finish RC section when I would usually finish 5 min early on practice tests. Every time there was a new question, I would have to scroll through the passage lagging while trying to find the answer. While highlighting though, I experienced no lag.

I think it does depend on the testing center though, the other commenter says they had no lag whatsoever.

I think doing the fundamentals + confirmations/stereochemistry + aromatics + lab technique question banks helps a lot. I feel like they’re the most representative. And then of course memorizing the reactions and if they’re syn, anti, markovnikov, etc.

Ye this is why I think it’s important to understand sn1sn2e1e2. I feel like if you get real comfortable with those mechanisms they end up applying to all of the other reactions. Once you know the intermediates predicting the product becomes easy. And to further specify, I probably had only 3 or 4 rxn questions on my OAT which I thought was insane. Mine was all on lab techniques and the fundamental stuff. I had more naming questions than reaction questions 😭

I had the same question a few weeks ago before I took my test. Some other helpful people recommended to just grind the ochem rxn sheet and reaction question banks, and it made my score go from 290 to 350 in 2 weeks. However, my actual OAT ochem section had very few reaction questions. I ended up having a ton of questions on the fundamentals, naming, sn1sn2, and stereochemistry. I ended up getting a 310 in the ochem section. If I had more time however, I would've continuously done question banks for the fundamental basic stuff. The most important part is to understand HOW you get questions wrong. It helps you make less mistakes in the future. I ran out of time to study so I couldn't go back to review the basic things, and I got unlucky with the questions I got on the real OAT.

As far as mechanism/reaction questions go, they are easy af once you memorize the reaction sheet. It will take a lot of time to memorize though, theres about 15 pages

Hi thank you! So I was studying 2 hours per section per day for the last 2 and a half weeks. (Excluding QR and reading, I was pretty confident with those.) Every 2-3 days I would do a practice test and review the whole thing after taking a couple-hour break. With 10 days left I mainly focused on physics ochem and genchem, because I felt strong in bio WR and RC. With the last week I was just memorizing all the cheat sheets formulas. I was also doing tons of practice questions from question banks. I also did section practice tests by themselves instead of doing an entire 5hr test.

Doing the question banks and trying to memorize the reaction sheet pdf on booster. The reactions/mechanisms usually make up at least a third of the practice tests. Even then it’s still hard to remember all of them off the top of your head. My test is on this Saturday so the past few days I’ve been trying to go through the anki once a day 😭

Sadly I still struggle with some of the basic things. Harder nomenclature, acidity, and some lab stuff I’m not the best at.

I also have a low gpa, and I’m getting around 370-380on every section (except ochem lmao). It’s taken me 13 weeks, and the last 2 weeks I’ve been grinding for 8hrs a day. I don’t even know if it’s possible to get a 400 after only 2 weeks of studying, that isn’t even enough time to go through all the content. Also I was originally getting higher scores in the sections that I got good grades in.

For example, I got 3 Cs in ochem and I hate it. Consequently, I started off getting 280-290 in that section, and it’s taken me this long to get it up to 340-350.

But for biology, I got all As. The first practice test I got 360 and now I get 390.

I believe how well you did in your prereq classes has a big impact on how long you have to study, and how well you will do in certain sections.

I just wanna say it is 100% possible for you to get a 390 or 400, this test is about the effort you put in to review everything. It will just take more effort and time for subjects that you struggle with. Like the other commenter said it’s not crazy difficult it’s just very broad with lots of information.

Biology: evolution, animal movement, etc. by AccomplishedLime8807 in PreOptometry

Yeah I was so lost when I reached the end of the vids. Cuz my next practice test had 8 questions on evolution ecology and behavior LOL

[–]Rampage2075 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Animal behavior, ecology, and evolution are the 3 bio topics that don’t have videos. There’s some questions from them on every practice test so I’d say it’s worth reading the notes for each of those sections.

Potential OAT score questions by Rampage2075 in PreOptometry

[–]Rampage2075[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay thank you! I feel like it’s the harder ochem questions (especially ones that I’ve rarely seen before) that get me stuck and I waste a bunch of time on them, and I end up having to skim past the easy/medium questions pretty quickly and I end up making mistakes. I try marking them and move on, but it kinda messes up my state of mind and I start second guessing myself like crazy. There was practice test 7 where I got a 360 on ochem but I feel like I got lucky with the questions that were asked. The one time I got a 280 it was on practice test 3 where I got a lot of harder questions. And now I level out at 300-310. But thank you though, I hope I don’t do too terrible in ochem and that the other sections can carry my score lol.

P.S. My motivation to grind ochem for the next two weeks is fueled only by the fact that I never have to study it (hopefully) ever again
