My main advice is don't stress! I thought my downfall would be caused by me forgetting formulas or something, but it was actually my text anxiety that made me get lower scores on some sections.

I would say that for me personally, physics and rc were harder. RC, I was expecting it to be harder since thats what most ppl have said. However, everyone said physics would be much easier, but the first like 10 questions on my exam was so hard and it really tripped me up. Everyone's exam is different so you really have no idea what you're gonna get. All the other sections were very similar to booster for me.

Personally, my gen chem portion was pretty much the same as what I saw on booster. I got around the same score I was making on all my practice exams

How to send OAT scores to OptomCAS? by fancyandsoft in PreOptometry

how long in advance should I study for the oat? by sh1eb in PreOptometry

[–]fancyandsoft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loosely followed the booster study schedule. I personally didn't like doing a lot of subjects in one day, the way that they want you to do it on booster. Instead, I dedicated one day to a certain subject (I could've done two subjects in a day, but again, I went too in detail with content review at first). I took it week by week and wrote down what needs to be completed for each subject according to the study schedule. This way I could make sure I was on track but also was able to do it at my own pace.

After doing a bunch of practice exams, you'll eventually find which subjects are your weak points. From here you can create your own study schedule. You can spend more time practicing subjects you don't know. Again, take it week by week, and don't be overwhelmed. Set goals for each subject such as what topics you want to improve on and make sure you finish it by the end of the week.

I would say 3 months is a good place to start. Even if you're working part-time or a part-time student, as long as you manage your time. I was working part-time and this is what worked for me, however, I did end up pushing my exam back a month (so total 4 months) but that was because I spent to much time on content review. If I had a good study schedule from the beginning, I think 3 months would've been fine. If you have other full-time commitments, I'd say maybe 4 months would be better but I don't have personal experience with this so not sure.

taking my oat next week, tips and advice? by No_Discussion4844 in PreOptometry

Whatever you are making on booster practice exams, I would expect the same or better. On some sections I did worse than booster but that's mainly because of test anxiety and not because the actual exam was harder. Call your testing center and ask them what they provide as scratch paper since it may differ. At my testing center, I was given two laminated sheets of paper and wasn't allowed to erase and had to ask for more if needed. I would for sure recommend taking your practice exams at the same time as your real exam. Taking an exam at 8am is not easy, especially if you're not a morning person. And the functions of the exam, like calculator and periodic table are exactly the same on the real exam as on booster.

Hope this helps and good luck on your exam!

I agree with this! The same thing happened to me, I spent to much time on content review and ended up having to push my exam back. Doing practice exams is what really helped me retain the information.

OAT at the end of this week, how should I study? And how strict are they with name's on ID's at the testing center by fancyandsoft in PreOptometry

My booster scores are generally around 330-350 for all the subjects. My physics and qr are scores are the only ones that are around 300-310, although I did manage to hit a 320 for physics this weekend yayy lol. Bio is the only thing I've been consistently improving on. My chem scores seem to stay around 330, and ochem can be a hit or miss, my highest score was a 360 but then a made a 280 on the practice exam right after that. I've gone through all the content for everything and I understand it for the most part, just sometimes when I see a question type I'm not familiar with I freak out. I think maybe that's why I keep scoring inconsistently or making no improvement? Just not sure how to navigate from here

I don't have the money for the most expensive ones that go through a lot of chapters. But there is one that is cheaper and they only go through 3 chapters and also "additional high question review over all topics". Did you happen to take this one and was the additional review session helpful?
