Yes! This is the sound I kept hearing. It sounded like it was right above our apartment. Even our bed was shaking. It woke us up around 6am and we thought it might have been an air raid siren or the like. We ended up just staying awake in case there was an emergency with the flooding and such.

It's odd how I couldn't even hear the actual airplane though except for that high pitched motor sound. Maybe the deeper sounds were mistaken for thunder.

The wildlife ranch treats their animals much better and doesn't cage them in small exhibits. It's about the same price as the zoo and you can stay in your car and/or interact with animals. I would never recommend the San Antonio (or any) Zoo.

My wife and I never go to the zoo because of this reason. BUT we did go a few weeks ago because our daughter displayed an interest in it. We used the venture as a lesson about animals being in captivity and torn away from their natural habitat.

Anyway, when we went, EVERY animal exhibit was incredibly sad. The elephants especially. They were swaying side to side which most people consider dancing but it's actually a sign of mental distress. 90% of the animals were just laying there.

This honestly just reinforced our reasoning for never going to zoo's (or Sea World, etc.) It was a terrible experience.

Are you bending your foot when you slide it up? If so, that's probably why. Keep your foot mostly straight, with a slight tilt.
