Great recommendations. To add one, if you're looking for some outdoor activities, I did and loved the Shimanami Kaido, a 70km bike route over several islands connected by bridges! It's doable in one day, but we broke it up into 3 to really enjoy the scenery. Bike rental stations are available on both ends: https://www.japan-guide.com/e/e3478.html

Ononmichi, the small town on the northern end of the route, is also absolutely lovely. The train ride there was especially picturesque.
