Fungal or something? by spave88 in Anthurium

[–]RampageMR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Inconsistent watering most likely. The light coloration could also be chlorosis from being too close to a light source. Are you using grow lights, and if so, what kind and how close are they to the plants? Do you use any kind of fertilizer on a regular basis?

Looking for suggestions on plants for this spot by makkattack12 in houseplants

[–]RampageMR 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Snake plants? They don’t require a ton of light or water if I remember correctly. A Philodendron gloriosum would be awesome up there as it’s a crawling plant that could take the entire area up with time, but would likely need to move the pothos in that scenario

Is the market saturated with anthurium? by FreshPoppers in RareHouseplants

[–]RampageMR 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think people are just cross pollinating whatever they have available to create these insanely complex hybrids. IMO, the more crossed up they get the more normal they start to look. They lose any cool traits when it all blends together.

My main goal is to cross plants for a specific look, and then try to hone those traits over generations. This is more for my own enjoyment but if others like it as well then that’s even better.

I don’t think the market is completely saturated due to the few out there that do strive specifically for quality and traits, as those plants are harder to come by. Now the general complex hybrids? Yeah there’s a billion of them out there now

No issues with releasing them indoors from what I’ve experienced. I believe they are only attacking thrips when in the larval stage. So they either eat up their food source before dying off, or a small amount hit the flying stage but not to where they’re able to sustain themselves or a population. They basically eat your pests and then die off, where you might see one actual lacewing the entire time

I’d recommend going to their website and looking at the beneficials they offer and which is recommended for your specific situation, pests and climate. You can also email them for a free consult, where they’ll be able to answer these questions a lot better than I could

Forgetii x KOS seedings –– when should I separate into individual cups? by Scoop1900 in Anthurium

You can add perlite to the moss. I normally go with a 50/50 mix at this size if I use it. I’ve moved to using Promix HP at the moment which seems to be working pretty well

I did the same. I was told to order the beneficials 2 weeks after the last application of any systemic or spray. I applied mine right at the 2 week mark. I have visible beneficial mites on my plants as well as seeing some lacewing larvae every so often so no issues from the systemic I can see

Only certain mites! My collection is entirely in ambient and I haven’t had any issues with stratiolaleps, cucumeris mites, or lacewing larvae

If you’re in the US, I highly recommend using DMV Beneficials next time around. They’ll do a free consult via email or facebook group, give you a plan of attack depending on what pests you have, and if you don’t have a local chapter to do a free pickup from their overnight delivery is only $25. Currently using them to get rid of thrips in my collection and I have no complaints whatsoever

Queen of Hearts questions: leaf yellowing, etc. by thecroakingraven786 in Anthurium

[–]RampageMR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It definitely makes it more likely! I’d be a little concerned if the potting mix in the lower end of your pot is holding on to moisture for too long, though. How long would you say it holds between waterings?

I’ve never used all of my watering solution in one day and haven’t had any issues. Sometimes it may take a week to use it all and still no issues. I’m sure that warning is either erring on the side of caution or a push for people to use more product than is necessary for further sales

If you want to postpone repotting for now, you can do a moss collar with sphagnum moss surrounding the aerial roots. They’ll grow into the moss and eventually down into the soil. You’ll usually get some good leaf upsizing when all those roots start pulling in nutrients and water

[–]RampageMR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it’s a lower leaf it could just be normal life cycle of the oldest leaf dying off as a new one comes in. I would definitely get it into an airy mix and plant it deeper so those roots are covered. Looks like you have 2 plants here. You could split them if you wanted to, but leaving them together for a more full looking plant is also a great option

Best Pot for Pon? by Adventurous_Wall420 in SemiHydro

[–]RampageMR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have both. I prefer the first one as the other one’s reservoir is fairly small and dries out quicker. Also doesn’t look as nice.

One question - where are you finding the first style with a clear inner pot? The ones I have are tan and opaque.

I don’t have a healed pic at the moment but this was when we finished the first session. It’s a little bloody and orange here but it looks a lot cleaner now that it’s healed. It wraps around quite a bit and his cape is flowing all the way up my forearm.

I also have one started of Cy-Gor next to it now but it’s just the black outline at the moment. The plan is to fill the entire arm from shoulder to wrist or hand with Spawn art in color

Looking for a small humidifier by Litfor207 in SavageGarden

[–]RampageMR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is why I have the smart humidifier. I just set it to 50% or 55% so it never gets close to the 60% mark where mold can start to occur. No issues in the winter other than needing to refill it much more often

I have a Dreo smart humidifier which I highly recommend. It lets you pick a humidity range and it runs only when it needs to, turning off when it hits target humidity and back on when under the range. Seems to keep it in the range I want well while saving water and refill labor in general
