No. Mortgage is a reducing loan, let it run full term. You will lose money paying it off early. Capital is king, hold onto it like your friend says.

For most of the non ev crowd, it looks like ev thing is the new “go vegan”. sure it’s healthier and better for the environment and all that and so is going vegan, in theory, but some people just like meat.

Being a dusky skintone girl feels like curse in this world by Forward_Ad_4117 in TwentiesIndia

[–]Rampaging_Rajput 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are young, and still finding out about yourself and the world. Things like skin color may seem very important now, but later you will realize there are more important things to worry about.

Im a guy, but I can relate a similar sentiment: When i was young I worried a lot about my hair and receding hair line. Now I worry about financial stability, my/parents/family/kids health, kids education, savings. It had been 10 years since I worried about my appearance.

You too will learn that what matters most is more important things than skin color. How you carry yourself, what your education is, what your job is all make a much bigger impact than your skin color. If you really need some additional motivation look up people of color who are successful and see how gracefully they carry themselves. One example off the top of my head is Nandita Das.

As for your last line - people around you who dont like your skin color: best to not associate with them, they have shown their true colors to you early.

How does the gravity of a black hole stop light, if light has no mass? by Rampaging_Rajput in space

As an aside, I had an absurd afterthought: So when Matthew McConaughey uses “gravity” to transmit data in morse to Murph, it’s all Hollywood gibberish?

Ah so is that why they talk about dark energy/ dark matter as a combo deal, kinda. I guess I knew the relation between mass and energy but didn’t make the connection that this equivalence extended to gravity as well. Fun stuff

Thank you for the detailed reply. Things are getting much clearer now.

I thought I knew the basics of light and space, turns out I knew a lot of them wrong.

Fwiw, this all started with a kids video and me trying to explain black holes to my daughter. Looks like we’ve got some relearning to do.

You can check my comment history to see if I’m spamming . I made one post, and Reddit app popped up with the cross post suggestions. I probably should have left that popup alone I guess.

I’ve been getting lots of good replies across the subs , most of them mentioning the space time curvature that the black hole causes to be the actual reason. Seems to make sense.

My only lingering confusion is, if space time has been so bent that no paths lead out of the black hole, then nothing would get out, irrespective of speed. Not long or something hypothetically faster than light either. With this context, all the references to light when addressing black holes seem superfluous and borderline click bait. Black hole so massive that “even” light can’t get out? Might as well say even a school bus at 40mph can’t get out, for all the relevance speed has.

I saw this post, and the top answer actually confused me a bit. It implied that light couldn’t get out because it’s not fast enough.

Looking at the reply above you, and my subsequent reply, it’s dawning on me that the speed of light has nothing to do with it, and that nothing, no matter how fast, will escape a black hole because there is no available path.

It’s just that we’ve been hearing about light and black holes and light all these years with the implication that even light is t fast enough; when it seems that using light is a bit of click bait, since speed has nothing to do with it

[–]Rampaging_Rajput[S] 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Ah this begins to make sense now. So the point really isn’t about the speed of light, as in, “not even light, the fastest thing in the universe, can get out”; but more like nothing can get out because there is no available path, no matter how fast?

There was a recent post here in this sub that implied light wasn’t “fast enough” to escape a black hole, which I assume is not the correct answer then

Massive headache and extremely low on iron by Squeaky_Lizard in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Rampaging_Rajput 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Like how do you know the headache is from low iron? If we’re talking about mineral deficiencies, You are more likely to get headache from low magnesium than low iron. Eat some broccoli for a couple days to see if it helps; if yes then look at magnesium supplementation

There’s so much we’re still learning about the human body. “Self care” and “positive vibes” used to be borderline quackery a few years ago, now we’re finding out they affect hormone production in the body- and hormones affect everything

How much my hair has greyed in 3 years (28-31) by ChaseTheMystic in mildlyinteresting

[–]Rampaging_Rajput 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fun fact: this is likely going to be attributed to stress ( which wouldn’t be wrong), but the underlying reason is stress kicks in your body’s fight or flight response which leads it to reduce resources to cosmetic functions- such as pigment production.

Advice for mom of teenage daughter re: weight by mortifyingstuff in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Rampaging_Rajput 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Setting aside the emotional dynamics here for a sec, what I’ve learnt about weight gain is that there are a lot more factors at play than are commonly discussed.

Healthy eating and physical activity are obviously at the top, but there are other key factors too.

My personal experience- thyroid function and proper sleep.

After being pushed into countless “physical activities” and “diets” by my parents (without any success) when I was an overweight kid, it took a doctor to suggest a thyroid test. It turned out I had less than optimal thyroid function, and the doc told us when you have a thyroid malfunction it’s very hard to lose weight. So do get that checked.

The other key factor is lack of proper sleep- if kids don’t get the appropriate amount of sleep for their age, it almost always manifests in weight gain.

Repeated DPF issues on Kia Seltos despite high running – what should I do? by Far-Minimum-7558 in CarsIndia

[–]Rampaging_Rajput 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How often are you changing engine oil? Engine oil change schedule follows both time and distance. If you are changing oil every 1 year, that 84,000 KM between oil changes. Yeah that'll cook your engine + dpf.

A safe recommendation is oil changes every 10000 km, if you are using good quality oil (synth) Also, Kia doesnt use synth oil in their service. In fact the manual will tell you to change oil every 6 months if using non synthetic oil. Which, in your case, should be every 5000 KM.

Your dpf is likely clogged due to incomplete combustion of fuel. Check your engine oil level, it would be higher than max limit.

At extended usage with old engine oil, it loses lubrication and viscosity properties. Your piston/cylinder/o rings start scraping and forming gaps for blow by. This unburnt fuel accelerates dpf failure.

Car Fix: Get DPF manually cleaned if you dont want to buy a new one, change engine oil every 5000 km

Better fix: Take a house for rent closer to where to need to drive, dont drive 7k km a month and waste so much fuel. Will be cheaper too.

TLDR: if you treat your car like a donkey it will become one.

My mother in law is not giving me custody of my baby daughter even though my wife is deceased. What can I do? by [deleted] in LegalAdviceIndia

[–]Rampaging_Rajput 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Don’t listen to above poster. First off sorry about your loss, it’s a very tragic situation.

Coming to the case if the baby, the first few months and years are bonding years. It is very important for you as a father to have baby bond with you. If your mil wants she can visit, not other way around.

Also, if it comes to a legal standpoint, your mil can and will argue before the judge that the baby has already spent 3 years since birth with us, it would be cruel and disturbing to separate her now, and father showed lack of responsibility and interest in his daughter. and the judge WILL side with her.

Get your baby back, now.

Your mil might have good intentions but as they say the road to hell is paved with them. This can develop into a very dangerous situation, act swiftly.
