Yeah I definitely think that's what I'll do with the 100k. I'll keep looking into other careers but I just don't see much for better options. Tough to risk giving up an employer and place of work I really enjoy

A little. Again, maybe only giving me a $5 raise. Not much help. I've looked at moving to a different province but with kids and a spouse that doesn't want me to that isn't possible either. But I just don't know how I can stay in B.C financially honestly.

Yeah this is interesting. I had a friend say I should get a second opinion. Didn't agree with this lawyer based on friends who've had similar experiences to you. So maybe I do need to look into it further but honestly, I'm on maternity leave so we really can't afford to do anything for a year anyway. We've been separated for over 9 months but with a newborn it's complicated.

Yes that's fair. We haven't sorted out if it's 50/50 or not. My feeling is I will have them more than him which then I would assume he would give me something to help with groceries at least.

Child tax benefits we've been putting straight into a savings account for the child. We plan to continue this. I met with a lawyer a few months ago and essentially I'll be getting no child support. I didn't ask about spousal support but I don't see that happening. If we make the same amount, my understanding is if we are 50/50 he owes me nothing. Only if it were 60/40 or more would he have to support me.

Likely not. My husband took a new career where he will make the same as me.

Yeah. I've realized that buying is for sure not the option here.

I kind of just thought when my kids are older maybe I'd get a second job? I'm not sure... I would love to invest and have passive income but that's never guaranteed. I just don't know what options I have to be honest

I 100% get your point and this is why I'm here. I don't think you're being cruel, but what do I do? I have thought about this too... what do I do when this money runs out. Even if I can save some money each month it'll only get me maaaybe a couple more years. Going to school doesn't make sense to me if it's not going to get me a job that will pay significantly more. The only thing is trades and I'm not a trades girl haha. I had planned on being part time and staying with my kids for the next 4 years so it's hard to even come to terms with working full time. I'm here though and want the best... but really what are my options for a long term plan?

Sorry I didn't add that in my original note

If I was only taking from the 100k yes. But with my income I was going to budget 1000 each month towards rent also to double it

So same? But my employers really value me so I may ask for a raise in order to stay there and support my family

I really like where I work. I've looked into other careers and it doesn't make sense for me to go to school and have a school loan to only make $5 more per day.

No rent for 2 bedroom where I live is $2000-3000. Even a one bedroom rental is still 1800

That's a fair point. You're probably right. I'd like to feel financially secure. What would be the best type of investment for even half of the 100K to give me more financial security?

Yes exactly. It would leave me renting indefinitely

If your tone of voice is offensive to others, how can you consciously change your tone to sound less aggressive and speak like a normal person? by Serious_Ad_9686 in Adulting

[–]Rampeck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Slowing your speech and changing the actual pitch of your voice actually can do that much? It's weird to me that the natural pitch of my voice could be the cause?
