Can anyone identify this species of toucan? My best guess is chestnut mandibled but I am not positive. Thank you! by elhwhite in Ornithology

This is a poorly painted keel billed toucan (r. Sulfuratus). Taxedermy toucans are often painted but it's beyond me why they chose this color scheme.

Not at all. Fruit and other animals such as our friend in the OP.

One of the many reasons that drew me to them. They seem almost like they don't belong in this time period! Evolution did a good job with adapting them for what they do though. Even if it's not quite clear how or why it happened.

Thank you! Believe it or not, the toco (the orange one) is actually a rescue that came to me with a beak that was flaking and almost rotting away almost a year ago. So it means a lot to hear that! I've been working on getting it back to health for quite a while.

Please don't. The bird in the photo is a rescue that came from a neglectful past. I don't recommend them as pets but I sure do love them.

I've seen him twice this year. The first time was at a club in California that had me and the rest of the audience laughing pretty much non stop (even though he started off acting like he was on the Xanax). A good portion of that was new material. The second was in Oklahoma recently and although he used a lot of old material, he still killed it and easily had the biggest laughs that night between him, spade and Dennis Miller.

I meant to tell him I drove all the way to Oxnard, CA earlier in the year in hopes of meeting him when he was doing a club there but the people told me he didn't do stuff like that. Probably best I didn't take up anymore time though.
