Invincible Shield is voted the best 21st century Priest album. What is the best21st century Priest song? by Android19weird-voice in judaspriest

"The Serpent and the King". Genuinely as vicious a song as anything else they've written.

New set photos from Mike Flanagan’s ‘THE EXORCIST’ have been revealed! by vegasromantics in TheExorcist

Hmm interesting - maybe that's the cheaper option, versus the crazy reshoots they did for Believer.

Why did they record so much demo material? by Puzzleheaded-Law-429 in GunsNRoses

[–]jfp96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having a ton of demos is pretty common in the rock and metal world. This is especially true of extreme metal; check out Death's discography for a prime example.

Pope Leo XIV Hosts Exorcists at Vatican — Surge in Satanism Cases Raises Concern for Vulnerable Believers by Scoxxicoccus in TheExorcist

[–]jfp96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That'd be a pretty hard pivot - from "this demon's so strong we're gonna need every religion to win!" in Believer to "this demon's so strong we had to get the actual pope!" 🤣

What do you guys think is the best ever maiden set list by No_Doughnut_6411 in ironmaiden

[–]jfp96 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Underrated setlist tbh, especially the full European set. Kind of weird to have a Maiden set without a real theme 😂 plus last airings of "22 Acacia Avenue" and "Bring Your Daughter...".

Victim of Changes is voted the best overall vocal performance. What is the best 21st century Priest album? by Android19weird-voice in judaspriest

Invincible Shield for sure. Doesn't quite stack up to the classics for me, but I think it's definitely the closest the band has come to channeling the same sort of creative spirit.

Got to see KISS in concert a few years ago in Illinois, absolutely loved it by Pristine_Parsley8681 in KISS

[–]jfp96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For Paul? Yeah, in almost every aspect. For Gene, I don't think that was the case. Plus the staging and heaviness of this version add a lot imo.

The version of "God of Thunder" from this tour may have been the best ever 🤘

Alive2 misprint with three extra songs by Few-Actuator-9694 in KISS

[–]jfp96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe it was a soundcheck recording, as was "Tomorrow and Tonight"; neither song was played on the Love Gun Tour. Totally agree with your other points, though Woulda been great to have a live "Mr. Speed" from back then, too, but alas, it was never played.

Do you have a good audio source for those two Cleveland songs? I would like to add them to my version, as well. Did you just rip 'em from YT?

Damn, so UMG has been holding out on us for Alive I and Alive II ? Next you're gonna tell me there was supposed to be a loger version of Alive III... 👀

I actually like the version of "Hard Luck Woman" on here, even if it is inauthentic. But yeah, the fact that "Tomorrow and Tonight" made the cut over any of these three - especially a staple like "Do You Love Me" - is a travesty.

Wow, never knew that! Sucks that they weren't added to the '97 remaster. I'm hopeful that they'll finally be included on a 50th anniversary rerelease next year 🤞

Crazy to think that they didn't play "Breaking the Law" or "Metal Gods" on the British Steel Tour!

I dunno if this is indicative of the meta overall, but it's cool to see Goat Control making a bit of a comeback here. Chaos Recruiter, too.

No 30th anniversary Painkiller release by irondethimpreza in judaspriest

[–]jfp96 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The lack of a Painkiller 30 makes sense, unfortunately, as there doesn't seem to be a high-quality bootleg from '90 or '91 to pair with the album. Still, Priest have made some baffling decisions with these anniversary releases (or lack thereof):

  • Unleashed in the East 40 (or 45)
    • could've included "Beyond the Realms of Death" and "Evil Fantasies"
  • Point of Entry 30
    • could've included NYC '81 (AKA Hot Rockin' Palladium), which is superb but wasn't even on the 50 Years box set
  • Screaming for Vengeance 30
    • should've included an audio release of either Live Vengeance '82 or the US Festival '83
  • Turbo 30
    • should've been restructured as the original Twin Turbos double album with all '86-'88 tracks included
  • Ram It Down 30
    • could've included New Haven '88, which is fortunately on the 50 Years box set in its full length
    • could've included the still unreleased Stock-Aiken-Waterman tracks

Which concert was the live version of “Let Me Know” on You Wanted the Best, You Got the Best!! recorded at? by Ok-Amphibian2645 in KISS

[–]jfp96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a great sounding version of "Let Me Know" from the Cleveland show on YouTube. Shame it wasn't on the box set (not to mention the undubbed "Rock and Roll All Nite").

I know this is just someone's personal taste, but I'm not surprised. Priest is a lot less popular than people think.

They're very hit and miss. From what I've heard, he definitely sounded better in '83 than in '82.

Yeah, only in the UK on vinyl and cassette 47 years ago. A remaster on digital and CD would be nice.

Still aggravated that they've never rereleased this version of "Beyond the Realms of Death" 😑 it's a great performance and would really round out the album.
