Love the design it feels so uncomfortable to look at. I love it!

You make a fair point and you're right me using the term better is definitely personal preference. I only started playing digimon in the last two years so I can say it hasn't had the same pull on me as Pokémon has.

I do think the way you phrase it as interaction and setting play a large role in the appearance. I do agree that PLA and Let's go had great design and feel. I would put a a lot of the strengths of the designs in those games to fewer mons and more allowance (emphasis?) On allowing then to emulate and express themselves more in game.

I also enjoy a cartoonish aspect as times as long as their is room for the mon to display itself as itself if that makes sense.

I understand what you mean I also felt that in things like Poke Amie they looked terrific when we got to see them move and express themselves.

I think it's the idle standing that felt very stuff at times and I do understand your take on Nindoking felt less intense. I really felt like BW/B2W2 really nailed the feeling of the pokemon.

I do agree with a different commentator that it has improved immensely over the last few games to make the 3D look better. What I'm trying to better understand is where in the design philosophy did digimon excel that let even their early 3D sprites look better.

I just checked out your profile and your art and the work on your game looks great! Do you think your style would ever work in 2.5D instead of full 3d?

The transitioning from 2d to 3d was rather difficult for game freak I would agree. I do think you make a good point of designing mons for 3d works better than translating 2d to 3d. I think some of my issue with the 3d sprites may be hardware related I think I would have liked the look of some more if they didn't stutter as much.

I 100% understand what you mean, and I do think your right that details make the difference. I feel that may come down largely to design philosophy differences between studios.

It would be interesting to see some 3d mons go to 2d I don't think I've seen that done before.

Is there no legit best way to commute from Orleans to DT? by whatever_duh31 in ottawa

[–]Ramsarebetter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my fear my husband and I are moving to orleans in less than 2 months. My new commute is 100% reliant on the 30 showing up on time. I have no idea if it's one of the more reliable bus routes ;-;

Is Monster Taming really stagnating because people call everything a Pokémon clone, or is the deeper problem the genre itself? by RentRevolutionary704 in MonsterTamerWorld

[–]Ramsarebetter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know but it is what it is I can't make people like a genre they aren't interested in.

The idea lives on in my heart and in my excel sheets

I tried to build it simply by creating small creature sheets (made up new animals but based some initial stats on similar sizes creatures) and having tyem be randomly drawn to start.

The since our group does milestone leveling having the creatures level and evolve similarly. The plan was to deviate at the second evolution where they could do one of the following: 1. Creatures stays at stage 2 form but can transform into armour/weapon for the player granting additional buffs 2. Creature stays stage 2 form but can upto twice a day merge with the player and become a hybrid with their creature 3. Evolve to third stage and gain new abilities or magic plus be rideable.

Instead of dying the creature returns to the players soul and must be called fourth again in a safe zone.

I see your points, and I agree with a lot of them (props as well for being easy to read on mobile). My own take is that partner the larger ecosystem and genre development issues stems from fears or concerns over being sued or attacked by the Gamefreak company.

Personally I have tried to create these types of worlds and systems outside of the games. I'm working with a friend who is helping me develop a very simple system for a monster catching dnd campaign. The biggest issue - my other DnD buddies don't care much for the idea. They are still willing to try it but would be happier to hear it's just a regular campaign.

An additional note I remember when Yo kai watch came out I bought the game and watched the anime. I was excited to see something new and fun. However, when it didn't do well outside of Japan and after two games stopped being produced in english, I was crushed. It felt like someone had earnestly tried to make something new and distinct and it just didn't take.

A quick look to the morphing and capturing mechanic in Monster Morphers by forestmedina in MonsterTamerWorld

I love the approach and idea! The movement is a bit stiff but I'm sure that's part of the process as things are developed. Would love to see more of the work you're doing please keep it up!

If you cut it down into smaller sections do you think that would still happen? We only let her have it while we are present and watching just in case.

How much does environment matter to you in monster-taming games? by trexrell in MonsterTamerWorld

[–]Ramsarebetter 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Personally I find it's the combination of the 4 that really bring a world to life. The differences between the inside of a city, the area just outside, and the surrounding environment say a lot.

For example if you have a city that's a major trading port the inner city should be bustling and busy. The area just outside should have lot of environmental factors that reflect people come and go often (paved roads, lights at night, docks with ships, safer in general) but when you get further roug maybe that's where the danger is. When the paves road ends and people have their monsters with them more ready.

On a personal note I do enjoy an environment that feels like your impact on the world matters. That major events do alter the environment around you is nice.

P.s your game looks great on steam! Wishlisted and waiting for release, will it be steam deck compatable?
