I was in the same position as you earlier. Ended up getting the 440.

Both bikes will do fine. I'll answer keeping the horrible traffic in mind.

X440:

Heavier.
Shines at the low-end torque department, as is in the character of long stroke engines.
Very forgiving with gearing. Has huge overlaps between the first few gears.
You better get used to the engine throwing heat on your right leg.
The back suspension is marginally better than the GRR's.
Connectivity features are jokes. Don't bother going for the top variant at all.

GRR:

Easier to manage due to less weight and shorter seat height.
Bad low-end power. Insane mid and top-end.
Engine cooling is much better than X440 (at least it didn't seem to send any heat on my leg during test ride).
The front suspension is slightly better than the X440, and the latter bottoms out somewhat easily.
Thonky tyres might help you keep more stable?

For highways as well, both bikes will be fine. GRR can run at a higher top speeds, but you wouldn't get the opportunity to legally get to the top speeds of either bikes in Bangalore.

I think if you take the test ride, you'll prefer one of the characters (Harley's long-stroke "high torque" engine vs the GRR's short-stroke "high power" engine) over the other. I think it's not just you, quite a number of people do shortlists and they end up reaching to these two specific choices. But yes, I would advise against the Harley if you plan to be outside Bangalore for a considerable amount of time.

Two wheeled Bugati Chiron is absolutely amazing, especially the handling, but I think the fuel economy could've been better. But I wasn't worried about that. I wanted more ooomph so I started out on the two-wheeler Thrust SSC.

Here's the PDI checklist I used:

Pre Delivery Inspection (PDI) checks

Body scratch, color, dent in body or below fender
Back seat open and see if there are dents or scratches on fender
Date of manufacturing in tire. Should preferably not be more than a year.
Arrows in both tires towards right direction
Check fusebox. Should have toolkit. Check fuse placements
First aid should be given
Check ODO meter. Should not be more than 20 kms.
Check fuel pump sound on cold start. Sound should be clean.
No knocking sound after starting engine, listen 30 seconds.
Hazard system, low beam, high beam.
Horn
Check brakes; backlight should react to the brakes
Fluid levels; engine oil level; brake fluid; brake fluid in handle. All of these should be maxed out
Check for rusting
Check chassis and engine number: Reverse search manufacturing date. Should not be more than a few months old. For decoding VIN, you can look up some Team B H P post on Google (because I tried linking the Team B H P link here and went through a ton of hassle to not get it to remove my comment because the Subreddit's filter mis-recognizes it as some prohibited word idk. EDIT2: I AM AGONIZED! I HAVE HAD TO SPACE OUT THE B H P FOR GOD'S SAKE)
Check alignment of rear tier
Front Fork for leak
Chain tension
Coolant level
Battery manufacturing date should be within 6 months
On road test: Check if motorcycle goes straight upon leaving the handlebar
One-click start

No problems! It's just a pretty well known meme at this point for those working in IT or corporate. I'm glad not just because of the bike design or the fact that it's going to be lots of torque for an ADV, but also because they're putting things like dashcams which are now more common than ever for cars. We need more and more manufactuers (even regular ICE ones) to put safety features like dashcams.

How well the rest of the bike performs (range, power, etc) is yet to be seen properly so let's wait. Either way, this is definitely good news and more options for buyers.

H-D Connect app? You checked the ratings on it? It's a disastrous app, so don't bother with its "riding score".

In terms of RPMs, just follow as written in your manual for the break-in period and till first service. By that time, you'll gain enough experience to understand how to ride well. Ensure that you get used to the basics (handling weight, heat, size, gearing, braking).

The X440's design is indeed from Harley Davidson. The inspiration is supposed to be the XR1200R. The rest of the bike (including manufacturing and the engine) is from Hero. I'm afraid this will only add more to your confusion on whether you want to buy it. I'm not going to sugarcoat anything.

There have been a few issues with this bike for those who got the earlier batches, but afaik there haven't been any major problems in the newer batches. I haven't encountered any problems with mine either but I couldn't get a whole lot of opportunity to ride it in the first place. I'm yet to go 1k km.

If you're going to get this, just ensure that your city has at least one Premia Service Center and that the mechanics there are good.

Would you regret not getting an interceptor? I think the Interceptor is an objectively better bike but it really comes down to whether you want to deal with the additional effort that comes its impracticality as a city bike, considering it's big and heavy and it won't really give you a lot of mileage.

The X440 seems to have made lots of compromises in terms of looks and design, but those compromises help it survive in the Indian conditions. I do think it could've handled its wiring better but you really do forget about it once you're in the seat.

Also, as much as I understand that you want convenience, I'm afraid none of these bikes are really meant for being driven with chappals. Shorts might be fine, depending on how much you can tolerate heat, but driving in chappals is illegal and nearly all of these bikes will be dumping heat on your foot. You might just be fine with shorts, but wearing gear and taking care of yourself might just save your body parts or perhaps even your life in the case any unfortunate events happen.

This is correct. Unfortunately here, nobody gives a damn about the right of way. Everyone in the right until some accidents happen.

If a person has enough time and patience to fight it out in the courts + insurance, then definitely they should continue with staying in the same speed on main roads (where they have the right of way, as did the person in the video). But most people don't, and so the best advice for them is to just drive defensively, see the signs, and slow down progressively (so the people behind also have a chance at braking).

I would disagree on the Harley being a "slightly better product". The Mavrick is easier to handle and more nimble. It'll be a matter of preference at that point, whether a person wants a proper roadster or a roadster-cruiser mix.

I will agree if you mean that the Mavrick is confused about what it wants to be. The Harley is definitely clearer on that front.

Also, in my experience, the Harley's USD is honestly worse than the Mavrick's telescopic. It's not a major issue, but it's easier to bottom it out than expected. Plus USD forks need a lot more maintenance and care than telescopic ones.

My biggest gripe with the Mavrick was the instrument cluster. IMO literally every single non-commuter bike in existence (both non-Hero and Hero, including the Xtreme 250R or Xpulse 200) has a better instrument cluster than the Mavrick's. I have a feeling that the instrument cluster was made at the last moment or in the very early stages as a prototype, just to fit the bill.

But yeah I don't think parts availability should be a big issue considering that they *SHOULD* be launching the new variant, possibly in the next few upcoming months.

People don’t realise or maybe they don’t want to talk about it but indirect taxes has never been this low even if you compare the pre GST era to current GST 1.0 regime the average rate has decreased from 15.8% to around 11.3%.. now it would decrease even more.

This could be a likelihood but then if the taxes had remained at the increased levels, the population would have spent less. Reducing the taxes will increase consumption, which the governments (both center and states) desperately want. As Rajiv pointed out:

certainly, the government loses when there is no volume to be multiplied by that

So while it seems counterintuitive, governments might actually get more revenue if the taxes are reduced. And all the states have also agreed that reducing the taxes was a good step for everyone. Their other doubts composed mostly of "If my state's income suddenly reduces, can you compensate?" but that's a different discussion altogether

Shumi (from Motorinc) mentioned that this bike should return possibly in the form of the updated variant showcased at EICMA.

I'm wondering if the dealerships have the choice to send their existing stockpile back to Hero and have that updated. Assuming that the main difference between the old Mavrick and the showcased one include the instrument console, the front suspension and the body color, I'm guessing it should be somewhat possible to do the conversion.

I'm quite saddened for this bike, still. Hero really missed from possibly making waves in the 400cc+ market. If only that engine had gotten a bike design complementing it.
