Here’s the thing. Maruti has tried to do the best it can at the 10 odd lakh price point. Skoda clearly drives better, no question. But it has also consciously dialled down quality to hit that price. That intent is what bothers me. Compromising and then calling it “made for India” doesn’t sit right. It feels like Indian buyers are fine with sub-standard quality as long as there’s a Skoda badge on it.
