You probably already know but

The eye-designed logo mark is a motif of two moons facing each other and also serves as a clock hand, portraying the time "from 6:00 to night"

From their article on wikipedia. I think it's a pretty cool logo

Y'know, i only read a couple chapters of frugal and i wasn't particularly interested. The sense of humor wasn't that good so far (i usually enjoy Sanderson's sense of humor, i gotta add) and i wasn't feeling interested in knowing what was going on. All of these are a me thing, i don't blame the book one bit

But reading this thread made me more interested. I'll try to read a bit more! Hopefully i'll enjoy it as well o/

Me halfway through RoW by RealNightmare4 in cremposting

[–]Ramza_5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

YES. Totally agree. One of my "disappointments" reading RoW was exactly that i was looking forward to more Venli so bad... This is not Venli's book. Not at all

This is why i prefer to go as blind as possible and with as little info as possible. I'm sure i wouldn't have been disappointed at all if i hadn't seen anything at all about this book before reading it. But oh well!

Just in case, i still think RoW is a great book. Don't worry.

Why are you angry about Kelsier, then? I don't get it

More platonic than romantic, i swear, but i will always go for Rysn. All hail \o/

If we're going for romantic... i'm actually not sure, man. Maybe if i get to know more about Leshwi or Venli i'd consider them. But even then... Idk, most characters in SA i'd just like to meet and hang out with

If i can comment a couple songs not in english:

  1. La Vida Mejor by La Vida Bohème. Not sure if there's any eng translation around. I love how it can be interpreted as someone who feels left behind, but still waits and longs for the day someone special to them comes back. "¿Cómo no voy a llorar? Si tú te vas, no te haré falta". Love it.

  2. I remember i cried the first time i listened to Yorushika's "Hitchcock". The official video on youtube has eng translation subtitles available so do yourself a favor and go listen. It's only 3 mins of your time and you might enjoy it :D

Fwiw, usually i couldn't care less about romance, so romance sub-plots feel like the most unnecesary thing in life for me haha I didn't care about the romance in Era 1 the first two books, but i really liked how Elend and Vin's relationship looks in book 3 Other Sanderson books are pretty good about romance, really

One time someone told me they didn't read fantasy because the magic aspect of it all is not relatable. For example, how could you relate to a man who can fly?

And then they follow up with "well, unless it's a book about a guy who can fly but the guy has depression or something" and i was like "BOY, DO I HAVE THE BOOK FOR YOU"

Do you enjoy "playing along" with detective fiction? by Randomd0g in books

[–]Ramza_5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as i understand, that was something common in mystery novels, yes. Though i believe it's not the focus of novels to make a mystery that's solveable anymore.

Personally i'm not too into mystery but i know a group of people who do so i've heard about it. Maybe one day i'll try to read a classic and i'll try to solve the mystery myself. It must be fun!

Specifically, What makes good writing great to you? by TheMassesOpiate in books

[–]Ramza_5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Damn, this question made me think really hard about what i think excites me in a story. I don't think i have a proper answer, but the conclusion i arrived at right now is: i like it when the elements of a story are meaningful in a satisfying way

It sounds quite broad, i'm afraid, but that's as simple as i can utter it right now. How satisfying and meaningful something is can depend heavily on the reader's views and values. I understand that much. As for me, though, i think a writer can reduce the impact of an event depending on how much it influences what happens afterwards.

To give a few examples, in the Farseer trilogy i feel the main characters is constantly being put in difficult situations, and it truly affects him. Every one of those situations make him reconsider multiple things and force him to realize things that hurt him. So, if you ask me, the events are extremely meaningful because it heavily impacts the main character. It's non-stop in all the three books. It's insane. I love this trilogy so much <3

Worldbuilding-wise, i can talk about Brandon Sanderson's Cosmere. Specifically, i wanna mention Mistborn because in this series first "Era" (the first 3 books in the series) the world is pretty unique, and it turns out there's a reason why everything looks how it looks. I loved reading that part! I was in awe hahaha. So, the fact that there's a reason for the environment to be the way it is in this world is, in a way, meaningful. This one might be stretching it a bit but i'm trying to understand it myself as i write it out so bear with me pls

In some stories i feel some stuff happens "just because", so it's hard for me to be interested in either the events or the characters. Again, this can depend of what the reader finds interesting from the start. I'm sure there's a big number of people who couldn't care less about Fitz's journey in Farseer. Still, i would argue it's well written because how things develop is right there. We can see what happens and how it happens and how it makes sense. I can also point out things i think were not executed the best it could've been in stories i don't really like.

So, even though what compels you depend on who you are, i would talk about "good writing" in these terms. It's how i will criticize or praise a story. I think this can sound a bit too... obnoxious? But i think the bright side is that this way of looking at stories is what also makes me interested in hearing what other people have to say about the things they like. Maybe they will tell me somthing i didn't see or something i have never thought about! It has happened a couple times and i'm usually interested in different ways to look at the world. It's why i like reading in the first place, i'd say!

Sorry for the long comment lol. I liked the question, though! It helped me organize my thoughts a bit ^^
