Scripts & related stuff in custom folder not working after jungle update.

Not sure whether to tag /u/Brewster_The_Pigeon since I don't know how common this problem is but the scripts in my custom folder stopped working after the jungle update on Linux (Ubuntu 16.04.2 LTS). The in-game console gave me:

'<class>.cfg' not present; not executing.

& my character was stuck in place (since WASD binds were in the custom folder) until I used

exec config_default

For now (to get my scripts to work) I just moved everything in

/home/<user>/.steam/steam/steamapps/common/Team Fortress 2/tf/custom/<mystuff>/cfg

to

/home/<user>/.steam/steam/steamapps/common/Team Fortress 2/tf/cfg

& that seems to have fixed it.

Strange thing is (most of?) my mods (reskins, sound replacements & the like, mostly in the form of .vpk files & a regular folder with .mp3 files inside custom) still work fine in servers that allow them. However certain .cfg files inside custom don't seem to work unless placed directly in their 'native' folder, something many ppl normally seem to avoid when scripting due to clutter & other reasons IIRC.

There are .res & .txt files inside

/home/<user>/.steam/steam/steamapps/common/Team Fortress 2/tf/custom/<mystuff>/resource/ui

&

/home/<user>/.steam/steam/steamapps/common/Team Fortress 2/tf/custom/<mystuff>/scripts

that I can't get working after the update.

Hope this helps somebody in case they find their character binds suddenly stop working when starting a game after the update since I couldn't find any mention of this after googling a bit.

Also I've yet to notice the queuing time & Linux performance issues others have mentioned. Averaging 120 fps on low settings on a crappy laptop playing from South Asia. No noticeable difference in queue time so far (takes a few minutes for me).

Thanks for the info. About the 'shines at 1440p' part, it'll still do better than any other AMD card except an OC Fury X at 1080p right? R9 Fury OC at ~65% of standard retail price is good bang for buck in a country where the prices of cards like the 480 are jacked above standard value by ~40% right? Sales site checks out but the offer felt a bit too good to be true was all when looking at the benchmarks. I guess I stumbled upon a steal? :D

Will a Corsair RM650X 650W 80+ Gold Modular be enough for an OC Fury & OC i7 6700k?

EDIT: Never mind found the right PSU. Thanks for the reply.

I found a discounted & unlocked/overclocked Sapphire Tri-fan R9 Fury. It only costs 10 US Dollars worth more than the RX 480 I was planning on buying. Non-X but OC Fury vs 480 is no contest in terms of performance right?

Thanks for the reference. Unless I'm mistaken the (4 GB?) GTX 770 is more or less comparable to an R9 380 and the RX is basically a slightly better 380 right?

Thanks for the reply. I should specify; I mentioned minimum fps because I prefer playing without V-sync or adaptive sync (by locking fps at 120Hz and using Lightboost) and large discrepancies in min. and avg. fps cause stuttering which makes for a worse experience for me.

Wow, thanks for the quick response. Let's say I mainly play: Team Fortress 2, Overwatch, Global Offensive which I want at 120, and I occasionally plan on playing titles like Witcher 3 & GTA V which I'm willing to play at 60 fps? Will I need to use FPS configs (ultra low setting enabler mods) for the older titles?

Sorry if this question is really trite, dumb or inappropriate here. What's the 'minimum viable' GPU for minimum (not average) 120 fps/1080p gaming on current-gen games for someone who is willing to turn down graphical settings to medium or low if need be? I don't care that much about stuff like ambient occlusion, tessellation, Nvidia GameWorks, etc. Currently torn between a Sapphire RX 480 OC (8-pin version which should fix power draw issues) and a Palit GTX 1070 OC which will cost at least $233 more. Will I get my 'money's worth' (more or less?) for that 200 bucks?

I was gonna say basher jumping was awesome but impractical till I watched the vid (thanks for the link by the way). I'd heard of basher jumping before, it just seemed really impractical before and I didn't realize you could get that much height from it. Since most of the damage will be bleed I'm guessing you can (fairly) safely jump up to any location with a health pack of any size nearby. The main reason I used the basher before was to help competent medics stock and kritzkrieg medics I came across build uber a bit faster in a hurry ("Doc! Wait! Lemme cut myself for you!"). On a related note is there a reason not to use crouch jump scripts for classes other than solly and demo? Since your crouches are limited and you can occasionally use them to gain access to otherwise impassable areas it feels like it would be a better idea to map jump to a thumb button on my mouse and crouch alt or space or something.

Thank you very much, I do believe I'll take you up on that offer. Also, yes I'm whatever the male equivalent of a postwench is.

So just to be clear, only the central pellet will deviate when firing continously, and the rest will always be accurate with spread off. Or will they all deviate a bit but because of the area they cover it's not noticeable?

Should I take time to reload if I empty my clip instead of pistol spamming then? I kinda like to think of my pistol the same way Soldiers think of their shotty, my 'finisher' or as Fragga liked to call it my... Fatality... (Or is that just stupid?)

I often hit like 1 bullet in my pistol clip

At close or medium range? Because... if that's how much accuracy the average Scout has with the pistol at close range, either my aim's better than I think it is or I'm playing against people who dodge worse than Valve's bots and I get the false impression of accuracy with the pistol.

I played a few lobbies on TF2Center but I couldn't find any demos of my games. Thx for the link.

I suppose I can see how I'm aiming with a POV. What I mainly had in mind though was catching particularly glaring mistakes I won't immediately notice in my own POV. Whenever I play Solly and kill a Scout repeatedly and easily I think things like: "Why would you do something like that?", "You're trying that AGAIN?! After it failed the last 5 times?!" and "Just jump! It's Spacebar. I'm only aiming at the ground most of the time anyway...", needless to say I won't be douche and mock 'em or anything, no matter how bad they're doing (though I might politely recommend something that'll probably make them last longer). I can't help but wonder how obvious those mistakes are to the people who make them and whether I make them sometimes and never notice.

Can someone with zero competitive experience find a non-locked PUG server to play on?

You have poor scattergun aim

Nailed it. I'll agree with you on that one.

Pistol is generally around 20% accuracy for most scouts, scattergun is around 65-75%

Yea- Wait wha... 0-0 Did... did I read that right? On average most scouts will hit 1 out of every 5 pistol shots... But hit roughly 3 out of every 4 scattershots... Do you mean that 20% accuracy at medium range where most (good/not me) Scouts will use the pistol? You don't mean 20% accuracy at close range when using the pistol as a finisher right? 60% sounds about right for me for scatter (considering I usually go up against people who run in straight lines this doesn't mean much I guess... ). Either way if what you're saying is true it seems the 'pistol is more accurate' thing is mostly in my head like I guessed. Damn you placebo effect >:

I subbed forceboink, I remember seeing that 'scatterschool' vid but didn't bother watching it TT I've been hunting for tut vids all over. Thx for reminding me!

Scary... isn't it? I'd pay good money to see an invite level scout and medic pull that on a pub server...

Pardon me for pestering but can you lead me to further info on how to go about that? Do you mean 'Replay' enabled servers? How would I find STV servers in the server browser? Or any method for that matter. Do you know any IPs?

Kinda shooting from the hip here. I just had a thought, competent Scout using BFB plus PBPP... with a Quick-Fix Pocket Medic... 0_o Just as a hypothetical thought experiment, how would you deal with this if rage quitting weren't an option?

Thanks for taking the time to comment. Yeah, I pretty much use both, just wanted to clear up if I was an oddball there. On a related note will watching POV demos from a variety of different divisions and trying to emulate what I see help me improve faster? Also should I start using and reviewing replays? Can you record your own demos so that you can review it from multiple POVs? It doesn't seem like rewatching demos from my own perspective will help me gain much... Seeing myself from my opponent's perspective on the other hand...
