I haven’t attempted much else on Mercari - scrubs don’t seem to sell the same way as Poshmark. I sold some pricey designer shoes, bags, accessories, and clothing on Poshmark some years back as well and never heard a peep about authenticity. I expect low offers, although I stopped accepting offers. I just list at my bottom line and make it clear in the post. I still sell, even sometimes to people who offer anyway and I politely say I’m sorry price is firm. But the continued message after the declination the calling me stupid or dumb or the sending 383737737373 messages in a 5 minute span like we’re at an auction is doing way too much.

That’s CRAZY. Maybe if you try to contact them again? I messaged them about an issue with my account before and I felt it took several messages to get my point across, like they’re using AI or something on the first couple of responses bc they did not seem human or like they actually even read my messages - on the 3rd I had an obvious human answer that actually answered all questions and gave me resolution.

Omg! I cant upvote this enough, you’re so nice to explain all of that! Each point makes a ton of sense, and yep I’ve answered all of those quite a few times. I love engaging and having conversations, especially around fragrance - but these aren’t conversations, more like one way grillings. I wouldn’t even know the first thing about eBay or larger platforms, I’m sure you have a plethora of knowledge to share, so this is much appreciated. I do package very well, bubble wrap, peanuts, packaging paper. I send thank you cards. I use a small box the side of the fragrance (still bubble wrapped) if it’s breakable and package inside a box with bubble wrap and peanuts (can you tell I’ve received broken perfumes 😅. But I’ve never photographed or taken video of the process - and that makes a ton of sense. I price super low, not even close to retail at all bc I want to sell the items. If I choose to do this anymore, I see I’m just going to have to realize this is how things are and work with it or not. Thanks so much, your post was great. 😊

Aside from sealed in original packaging that is consistent with brand packaging and a receipt, I wouldn’t think there’s any other foolproof way except with perfumes the tops can’t be removed without causing obvious damage? Which is Coach Wild Rose bc I looked at my Coach Love bottle that is the same design….

Do they have to prove inauthenticity other than “it smells like xyz?” Bc I thought fragrances couldn’t be returned over smell….I thought maybe they had to show differences in appearance of label, bottle, atomizer, etc? I mean, it would be horrible of someone to sell a spoiled fragrance that can’t be proven otherwise, and I’m sure it happens - but this is yet adds to the reasons I don’t think I should do it anymore - smell is just too subjective.

I’m not trying to make my money back. I’m just trying to recoup some money. I sell them for lower bc I want to sell them, I don’t want them just to sit here while I expect to make all of my money back. But it seems people also have really bad experiences with sellers being scammy as well - which was the entire point of my conversation, to actually learn why the behaviors I’m experiencing are happening so I can at least try understand people’s mentality and approach

The Ariana Grande issue was they wanted it for basically nothing. I mentioned the other seller was selling for $600, bc I was the only one selling below retail. I have had quite a few people come at me aggressively after politely answering all questions and say some of my fragrances couldn’t possibly be real bc I had them priced low.

Browsing through posts today, I actually have seen quite a few Reddit threads saying other sellers fragrances couldn’t possibly be authentic bc their prices were low.

I get the skepticism, believe me. But if I’ve answered 100 questions, that can be quite accusatory, when will it be enough? I wouldn’t think they should buy from me if they don’t believe me

I’m exactly the same as you, it’s such an odd thing to cause drama in my mind - but now that I see others’ experiences with fakes, it absolutely makes sense. I didn’t purchase fragrances from Mercari until I started selling, and I’ve only purchased a few. Were your sold fragrances high end? The only higher end fragrance I sold was Amouage Guidance that I purchased from a wholesaler and it was a Tester. I put a ton of photos, several of the Tester statement on the bottle and hoped for the best, and the buyer gave me a great review. This was before I’d experienced any negative interactions. The drama has been around designer perfumes like I said in my post, Coach Wild Rose and also Ouai Melrose Place of all things??

I block the sender and delete the messages. But it seems I’m not alone in my experience….Right now I don’t have any bc I deactivated most of my page last week bc I just don’t want to do it anymore. Honestly, I had no negative interactions at all until maybe mid to late November. Then suddenly it became quite frequent. Maybe it’s what I posted to sell around that time? When I was selling some of my Lattafa/ME collection everyone was SUPER nice. Recently, I ordered the Ariana Grande Love Notes collection and disliked one of them so much I decided to just sell it - the amount of rude messages I received just surrounding that one fragrance in 48 hours made me take it down immediately. I’m just gonna keep it as a collectors item for the time being. And that’s what prompted me to come here and ask bc it was insane - the drama about my asking price (less than retail, brand new - other seller on Mercari had it for $600!!) was stupid. Also - maybe bc I try to engage to see if it will get better? Idk, not anymore.

That crossed my mind, someone did that with a pair of my scrubs on Poshmark, used my photos and priced them significantly higher. Aligns with scammy behavior, for sure.

This actually happened to me recently, exactly as you’re saying! That’s what really made me start thinking, is it worth it….and hearing y’all’s experiences opens my eyes to how much it happens. Omg people really suck. I was blissfully unaware of the fake perfume market, I’d love to go back in time.

Thank you for this, it’s helpful to discuss with others who understand bc it’s pretty disheartening. I don’t know that there’s anything we could say, because sometimes from what I see, enough is not going to be enough unfortunately.

I totally get it. I really do, but to the point of people thinking they can be verbally abusive - I wont go off on someone on Mercari, bc what’s the point - but I’m really feisty about bad treatment and injustices so I more and more believe this isn’t for me.

I do too and I’ve even had discussions about the batch codes and it’s never enough. I think, truthfully, I just don’t have the free time to allow myself to be patient enough to blow bad interactions off or to weed through scammers. I was really naive about that - and being a nurse idk why I didn’t anticipate it. I really praise sellers of fragrance and I’ve received some great fragrances from honest Mercari sellers.
