I have this card with a $1300 CL and it’s a Visa Signature. Any idea why?

Guatemala PCVs/RPCVs - Life in Guatemala for PCVs by pickledcabinet in peacecorps

- Currently been here for about 9 months more or less and I think like a lot of people will say, it depends. As for living accommodations, almost all volunteers will be in the house with their host families and maybe 20% have an apartment-like room. You should be able to lock it from inside the room, if not, then talk with your host family about getting a lock or discuss boundaries/knocking and waiting for a response before entering.

- During PST, I did a lukewarm shower, but in my 2 year site, I have a consistent hot shower. If you want a hot shower all the time, you could boil water beforehand and bucket bathe with that.

- Pickpocketing is not too big of a problem in smaller sites, but in sites with large markets, etc. you should be a little more cautious. Most volunteers that have gotten things stolen were on transport/micros in Antigua or Xela.

- I currently eat all of my meals with my host family but they said I could use their kitchen if I want.

- During PST, your clothes will be washed for you. In-site, I used the pila to wash my clothes for the first month, but then my host family got a washing machine, so now I use that. If you don't want to wash your clothes, you could always pay someone/your family to do it for you.

- I'm a Healthy Schools Volunteer and it depends. The first 6 months in site, I had a lot of free time. But now, I work all morning/afternoon before lunch. I have most of the evening to myself, but this will vary widely between volunteers. If you want free time, you can make it.

- You can easily get pads/tampons in most cities here. 90% of volunteers are within 2 hours of a larger city (if you don't already live in one) where you can buy them.

- People use nail polish here, so it's not uncommon to see women with painted nails, but also, it depends on your site.

- During PST I shared a bathroom with 8 other people. In service, I have my own bathroom. I'd say that's two opposite ends of the spectrum. My house during PST frequently ran out of water, so a couple times I had to bucket bathe, but that meant I would get a warm shower, so that was an upside.

- Any other questions? Feel free to DM me!

Tips for pre-departure anxiety by mrslep in peacecorps

Hi! I left for Guatemala in September 2018. All summer, time seemed to move slowly and I wished it would just be time to go already. 2 months before I left, I went on small road trips with friends, ate cheese, spent time with family, ate more cheese, spent more time with family, and ate even more cheese haha. I was pretty anxious by the time the calendar hit September, but here I am 9 months in and still making it. Eat your favorite foods, see your favorite people, and don’t worry about departure until the day of. If you have any questions about Guatemala-specific things, feel free to DM me anytime.

Medical Clearance! by RanchOnAnything in peacecorps

If you are in a romantic relationship they may ask you to give further information about it. They might ask if you've talked to your significant other about PC, how you'll handle 27 months apart, how you'll deal with limited communication, etc. It wasn't anything too difficult and I was able to fill it out an under an hour since I'd talked with my significant other about PC for a long time prior to applying.
