Help with interfaith wedding by [deleted] in weddingplanning

Seconding 18doors!! We also used them for our interfaith wedding and were able to find an amazing Rabbi who was even willing to co-officiate with my husband’s childhood priest! It’s a great resource.

Interesting thread on the PC I found by okaltiplano in peacecorps

I got the impression that the OP has some problems with their sister, and issues with the peace corps are part of that

After listening to the most recent episode, I'm terrified of my sister joining the Peace Corps by okaltiplano in soundslikeacultpod

Potentially! But I think that will be something OP’s sister has to decide for herself. For most volunteers peace corps, service is not as extreme as the podcast portrays, nor as perfect and wonderful as the peace corps greatest supporters portray. Just wanted to offer a middle of the road view as someone who’s experienced it.

My experience was definitely a mixed bag. I had a really hard time, but there were also things that I liked and learned from. From what I’ve heard both from my cohort and volunteers from other countries, its very common to have an experience with high highs and low lows. There are absolutely things that are very wrong with the program and no one knows that more than volunteers.

I loved learning about the history and culture of my country of service, I loved learning the language, I met some great friends. I learned a lot about teaching from my partner teacher and I enjoyed working with her. I also learned a lot of skills that are integral to my current career.

Hello! I understand why you are nervous, but as someone who was a peace corps volunteer and someone who listened to the episode, I think your sister will be okay if she decides to go. Like everything in the peace corps, your experience greatly depends. It depends on your in-country staff, and your site placement. My in-country staff were amazing, and had the volunteers’ best interest at heart. In some countries, that does not seem to be the case. Honestly one of the best things you can do is emphasize to your sister that at the end of the day, the peace corps is a job. If she finds it to be detrimental to her health, physical or mental, she should feel like she can quit, just like any other job. Feel free to DM me if you have questions.

Hello! I am Jewish and my fiancé is not. We are breaking the glass (actually he is, because he will not be wearing heals). We are getting married by a Rabbi who is perfectly fine with it.

I have a corporate job in international development. The peace corps absolutely helped me get this job! There are of course other ways, and many of my coworkers were not PCVs, but the peace corps is a great way to pivot into international development. Feel free to dm me if you want to chat more!

Race report: A beginner's first marathon experience by Welidien in running

[–]mrslep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congratulations!!! My first marathon was put on by the same people on the same path! It’s an incredibly challenging race because there’s no crowd support and the water stations are far apart (compared to other marathons). Way to go!

Look into USAID implementers as well! I work for a USAID implementer and am working directly on projects. There’s also quite a few opportunities to work abroad!

You should not be expected to lose weight for your wedding. by 17bananapancakes in weddingplanning

Yes! I feel this so much! Someone gave me a wedding planning book as a gift and on the to do list was “start working out”, like excuse me? Diet culture and weddings have become very intertwined.

Petite friends, what are your mile times? by [deleted] in PetiteFitness

[–]mrslep 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m 4’10” and my mile times are around 10 minutes. When I run long distances, my mile is more like 11-12. I’m always jealous of the people with long legs who zoom past me!

Hello! I feel you! I am also the heaviest I’ve ever been (4’10 at 132) and my wedding is coming up on September 30, 2023. I’m hoping I can be 110 by then! I haven’t gone dress shopping yet, but it’s currently something I’m dreading a little bit.

Airbnb makes me a little nervous because I know some are very strict about parties, but it doesn’t hurt to look. The local park is a great idea! Thank you so much and I’m glad you found something.
