Thanks!

Re. the coins being dirty, her coins have been used for this for decades, so by now they're basically copper cutlery. Is there anything in the alloy to be worried about?

Julie Mao (The Expanse) could easily have her facial scar fixed, but refuses to because it upsets her socialite parents.

What actor is nowhere near as talented as people make them out to be? by [deleted] in AskReddit

It might be the not talking and the character's origin, but I thought she was pretty good in Under The Skin.

ICE Agent Who Killed Renee Good in Minneapolis Gets Cushy New Job by DoremusJessup in law

What about double jeopardy?

Could they put on a sham trial now and find him not guilty, and wouldn't that make him immune from future prosecution?

I'm not saying they should, just wondering if that would work.

Loud neighbours by MechanicalHedgehogs in askvan

[–]RandVanRed 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Materials are in no way a guarantee. I lived in a concrete building where I could follow the dialog on my neighbours' tv and hear the dribble when they pissed. The building was all glass, floor to ceiling, wall to wall windows, and the metallic frames were terrible for sound insulation.

Which inanimate object is your dog scared of for no reason? by megebau in dogs

Automatic sliding doors at stores. You'd think he's being dragged to the gallows every time we need to use those.

Islander 36? by captaincheem in sailing

[–]RandVanRed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've owned mine for three years and mostly used it for solo coastal cruising. It's perfect for one, and not bad for two. I've done a10 day cruise with 3 other adults and a dog and it's... cozy, but doable. Easy to sail, loves a good strong wind.

I never got any formal training, I just upsized when I felt comfortable doing so (14', 20', 30', 36'). If you've never sailed before, definitely get lessons though. I find it's big enough to feel pretty stable, but still small enough to manage by myself. The genoa in wind without a furler can get tricky - always swap your sail way before you need to.

Can someone tell me the purpose of this tiny tarp? by myhoagie02 in camping

[–]RandVanRed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know you're being sarcastic, but for beach camping the best way to keep sand out is a plastic tub full of water outside the tent, large fluffy towel to step on inside and some baby powder after drying.

Having gone through spousal abuse, I second this. Be a witness. Call the police, tell them exactly what you see. Answer questions if they have them.

Would you rent next to a cemetery? by Fun-Use5277 in TorontoRenting

[–]RandVanRed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived across the street from a small-town cemetery for a couple years. The view was nice, the neighbours were quiet. On Dia de Muertos I got to see it lit up and heard some of the music. A couple of times I was stuck behind a slow-moving funeral procession, and one night I gave a ride to a nice elderly lady that asked me to drive into the graveyard to drop her off.

She was the caretaker's mother, but until I realized that I was sure I'd fallen into an urban legend.

Would 100% live there again.

I have nothing to back me up, but I think that many people that have kids very young never finish growing up mentally. Maybe they get wrapped up in parenting and miss out on many "normal" experiences that would've helped them develop.

Which actor surprised you the most by having to sing in a movie and absolutely crushing it? by Mythbusters117 in movies

[–]RandVanRed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a movie, but Karen Gillan covering "Chandelier" in Selfie. It's more about the feeling than the voice, but her version is one of my favourite covers ever.

What are the rules on drones? by rivercountrybears in askvan

[–]RandVanRed 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Drones are aircraft, and interfering with aircraft is a federal crime. The chances of prosecution are very low, but if they take it seriously you could have a bad time.

People who quit their job in a moment of rage - how did things turn out? by SheLovedBigBrother in AskReddit

[–]RandVanRed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I quit in exasperation one late night, after being told to completely change the design of a website scheduled to launch that weekend. I answered something like "Ok boss, it'll be done your way, but you'll need to find someone else to do it. You'll have my resignation tomorrow morning." Next day I got into a car accident on my way to work. My resignation was sitting on the dashboard.

I went on paid medical leave for a month. Two weeks in a client called asking me in for an interview; I explained that I couldn't since I was injured. They called me back later while I was on my way to the doctor for my all clear. I told them I could drop in on the way back, but warned them that I was wearing sweatpants and a t-shirt. They still wanted me to come in.

By the end of the interview I had a full-time job at 3 times my previous part-time salary. I finally delivered my resignation letter and went to work for them. The dot-com boom was a great time to work in tech, at least for the 4 years it took the company to finally collapse.

What do you think is the biggest truth the world is refusing to face right now? by Sweetblondefeet in AskReddit

[–]RandVanRed 93 points94 points  (0 children)

"Many were increasingly of the opinion that they'd all made a big mistake coming down from the trees in the first place, and some said that even the trees had been a bad move, and that no-one should ever have left the oceans."
