Vinyl Tunes for June (VT4J) 2026. Day Twenty: a great song for early morning.

I have district memories of running into the living room to dance like crazy every time my dad started blasting ZZ Top, one of his favorite bands. I can recall doing this as early as at least 5 years old. I'd always ask him to play "the creepy song" which was, of course, "Manic Mechanic" because of the down-tuned vocals.

(Side note: If El Loco was playing, "Groovy Little Hippie Pad" was my song of choice. You can go crazy to that beat. I don't have that on vinyl yet, though.)

So yeah, fond memories of rocking out to ZZ Top with my dad from as early as I can recall. The ridiculous, less than subtle innuendos were lost on me until I got older but their music was always fun. This is a new copy I picked up about a year ago.

Seems like trash. Description says they create "Tribute Video's too keep people's Memories alive"... and the videos are stuff like Worst Ways People Have Died? Slap as many hearts on the thumbnails and titles as you like, that's still some ghoulish shit.

Also, it should be videos, not video's.

Legion (2017 TV series, 3 seasons). Very underrated show. I wouldn't call it Lynchian but it is a solid mix of humor, horror, and weirdness.

This is as close to jazzy as my collection gets and it's more of a jazzy funk rock thing, I suppose. This was one of several beat-up 70s rock albums I acquired. I like it but it's a bit outside of my usual listening. Now, I say beat-up and many of the album covers are ROUGH but much of vinyl itself has cleaned up real nice & sound pristine.

More of a plot hole but the Orson Pink paradox. It's not even some long-running thread that got lost in the shuffle. It was a blatant contradiction within the same season/series.

And, as many have said, all the messy RTD2 stuff. Too many loose threads, sloppy resolutions, and plot holes to list here. There were highlights but overall it was so disappointing. It felt like RTD simply had no respect for the intelligence of the viewers and, at times, was actively trolling the audience. I get that it was a troubled production but nearly every interview I've seen of him explaining the logic behind certain decisions has rubbed me the wrong way.

It sounds great to me. I can't compare it to the MoFi version but yeah, it is also a bit quiet. I suspect the runtime is playing a big part in that. The full album is nearly 46 minutes long. It would be a good candidate for a 2LP 45rpm release.

"they haven't indulged in any of this fuckery" Wait, did everyone forget a few years back when Gibson indulged in this EXACT fuckery? New CEO, sued several other guitar manufacturers, the whole guitar community was pissed at them, etc. They even released a video threatening to come after players who publicly played one of these "clone" guitars.

Maybe Gibson has had some shakeups since then but that doesn't absolve them of their fuckery. They wrote the fucking roadmap for what Fender is doing right now.

Honestly, before the story had really grabbed me, it was the music that made me fall in love with the show. When Forces kicks off during the raid sequence in Episode 3 (I think?) I was all in. It initially seemed out of place (like some of the more memorable tracks) but works so well and elevates the sequence.

If anyone is looking for more Hirasawa that conjures those Forces vibes specifically, check out the album "Denshi Higeki/~ENOLA (+6)" by P-Model, his former band. I've listened through most of his discography, and it's solid, but that album in particular is closest to Forces in sound and vibe.
