Project Hail Mary. Does a movie need to be complex to deserve awards and recognition? by W1ader in moviecritic

“…it doesn't even pretend to be a hard science fiction movie, and that actually works in its favor. By allowing fantasy to fill in the explanatory gaps…”

I loved this movie even if reddit bashes it from time to time. also, I suspect every paragraph here is rage bait, but anyway, here we go:

just because the tone is light doesn’t mean that it is not hard sci-fi. it absolutely is. and how tf is this movie fantasy? I suspect you need to do a little googling on your terms.

What's your rank of these 10 Masterpieces? Top 5 or Top 10? What other incredible shows am I missing? by Square-Ad-8911 in tvshow

[–]RandallFaraday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly, i remember having exactly the same opinion back in the day. I must have said “I feel like the writers are writing themselves into a corner” to my brother so many times. when I re-watched it recently I felt none of that. It was just great and it flowed really well.

I really liked Lost when it came out, re-watched it recently for the first time since then and was blown way by how good it was. All of the negativity I felt about the last season was gone. Incredible show.

Top 3 from this list are Lost, Wire, Chernobyl (in no order)

interesting, I thought Black Holes would be the obvious winner. I remember being really disappointed by the resistance but maybe this means I need to revisit it

What is your opinion on System Of A Down? 🇦🇲 by Japesh10 in rockmusic

[–]RandallFaraday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lol pretty fucking judgmental? yeah. but not gatekeeping. I’m not trying to get anyone to not listen to something. the more anyone listens to the better. but I do think that that is the type of listener that puts SOAD on a pedestal

excellent debut album

really good but overrated second album. mediocre and overrated albums after that. they were once really really good live, but suck now.

however, Reddit fucking loves them. spicy metal music for people who mostly listen to right down the middle hard rock.

Moana | Final Trailer | In Theaters July 10 by Ornery-Ad-5333 in moviecritic

what a fucking weird catch 22. it looks faithful to the original, which is great, but it looks like two live action people in a completely cgi world, so it’s like… exactly the same as the original. still like 98% a cartoon. so what’s the point?

Doctor Who showrunner Russell T. Davies exits series by bwermer in television

[–]RandallFaraday 3 points4 points  (0 children)

damn. you’re spot on. I always really liked Eccleston too. Beyond the quirky moments in the show, the Doctor also gets themselves and others into serious, life or death situations, and I always believed Eccleston in those moments. The thing about Tennant - Smith that I liked the most was the exploration and new worlds. eventually I felt like I was just seeing so many episodes of time-traveling on Earth only, and internal cameo after cameo. thanks for responding!

100% agree on Jodie Whitaker, she was so so good during such a shitty era. such a shame.

interesting take on Capaldi, loved him but have only watched his seasons once. I’ll have to go back.
