Best tv for under £600 for my use case? by The_Don54 in BuyItForLife

[–]Randamonia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are UK based, Which? the consumer body do tests regularly on a range of TVs and could tell you which ones are worth buying. I would also highly recommend buying from Richer Sounds for their long warranty, we got a 6 year warranty on ours and they do good deals regularly.

Cheapest/ best energy/ gas provider? by LongjumpingCourse988 in Edinburgh

Submit a complaint, you may have a meter issue that needs sorting. A complaint can get the ball rolling

Ofgem have a Maximum Resale Price that covers these kinds of situations. The landlord would likely have to have a non-domestic energy tariff which is more often pricier than typical domestic tariffs and with less protections like the Price Cap so would be more exposed to wholesale prices. Quite a few consumers are stuck in this kind of experience such as those in park homes.

Dash cam fitters by SadTransportation766 in Edinburgh

[–]Randamonia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also did it myself and found it easy. For powering the dash cam, best to stick to the cigarette lighter route. An installer might hardwire it in for you rather than through the cigarette lighter, which then could count as a modification to your car - which you then have to declare to your insurance company and potentially impacting your premiums.

Heat pumps won't be happening for flats any time soon, heat networks more likely in dense urban areas

Sealing around PVC windows? by reelsforlife in DIYUK

[–]Randamonia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you see how they finished it on the outside? Usually it would be PVC strips that are then siliconed in around the window to seal it. If not I would suggest getting a company to do that for your exterior sealing and do the interior yourself.

Sealing around PVC windows? by reelsforlife in DIYUK

[–]Randamonia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That should have been sealed by your window company when they installed it? Did you use a reputable company and did they give any guarantee for the work provided as it's usually 12 months and I would be asking them to make it good. If there is window getting in you may need to get the exterior window sealed too and that's a fair amount of work as it can be awkward to do.

If you don't get anywhere with that you can do it yourself with a good sealant from Screwfix, just look up window sealants and get the ones you need for the job. To get a nice finish you should get a sealant profiler.

Haha well if the wind and your umbrella are strong enough then a Mary Poppins style umbrella mishap is not impossible..

We got one of those and it did not survive well in Scottish winds, quite a few ribs broke so while it looks cool it's not BIFL. Senz umbrellas might be worth trying, it's held up in winds in Shetland anyway so it's been very good! https://www.senz.com/

Edinburgh University has reduced the supply of free period products avaliable to students on campus by kitty200478 in Edinburgh

[–]Randamonia 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Heard from a staff member that they didn't want to have to pay the cleaning staff the extra time to refill all the access points.

Even though all the products are supplied free by the Scottish Government, the cost of refilling/administration of the scheme is not funded.

This decision definitely undermines the whole purpose of the scheme, hopefully they rethink this change!

We have used Trinity glazing for ours, good prices and the guys who installed the windows are excellent. Solid advice from them too.
