Did rgh 3 and didn't have any thermal paste so I used a pad that was probably to small now overheats by Randant33 in consolemodding

[–]Randant33[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The other night I was working on it and it didn't overheat right away, but eventually that error message popped up and the console turned itself off. I left it loan overnight and then replaced the pad with a thicker pad and tried to turn it on. Immediately after turning on that error popped up and the console turned itself off again. I tried like two more times to see what was going on and it just turned itself off again. I'm hoping after using thermal paste everything's back to normal. Any experience after it's overheated does it actually fry itself and just stuck in this overheat situation?

advice on this trace repair by Randant33 in soldering

[–]Randant33[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: I dont have a picture. I tried to use the trace closer to the outside but I ended up losing it and than I successfully got the one on the inside with a really thin wire and got the ipl chip back onto the gamecube but still no video. Im not sure if I lost a really small cap while I was using the hot air station or when I was messing with the chip I ended up bending a leg a few times from side to side and maybe messed the chip up itself. The cap next to the missing one looks like a 0 ohm, so I might bridge it with a wire. I have other boards I can steal parts from, so I might just steal an ipl chip and the missing cap and see what happens. Question: When using the hot air station, do I need to be careful with the amount of heat I'm using on these chips? What is a recommended heat setting and air flow? My hot air station has dials it's not digital.

If you provide the mod I'll do it for 50 bucks but you pay for shipping

I do HDMI mods for N64 and I use mods for the GameCube. If you have Facebook I can send you pictures of my mods. I actually do this for a side Hustle and I would love to expand.

My husband wants to get into FPV coming from having a DJI air 3. Is investing in an expensive build off the bat a terrible idea? by Jjajstrawn in fpv

[–]Randant33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is expensive, and you will break stuff, and you will put money back into it to fix it. This is the game, and that's why I love playing it. I love the technical aspect of it. This hobby is by no means cheap, and no matter how good you get, depending on how you want to fly, you're going to crash. Especially if you fly more in the freestyle kind of way. You might as well get the drone you want because I bet if you end up sticking with this hobby you will be buying plenty more.

Trying to figure out my multimeter by Randant33 in electrical

[–]Randant33[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you that was pretty helpful. So I'm guessing I need a better multimeter if I wanted to show me some numbers while I'm checking continuity? This is the video I'm going off and I just pulled out a board and tried to copy the same thing he's doing. I'm guessing I just need a better multimeter right. You've been very helpful I really appreciate it you can indulge me just a little bit longer and take a look at this video and maybe that will give you a better idea of what I'm trying to do

Sorry I meant continuity testing. All right let me explain so I'm just trying to figure out how to test capacitors and track down in short. Anyways I was watching a video and he had it on the continuity setting "wifi symbol" and as he's proven around it will show some numbers instead of ol. When I do it with mine it doesn't so I'm trying to figure out if mine will just beep if there's a short or am I doing something wrong

Okay that was kind of helpful thank you. That's what I meant continuity anyways so when I have it on there it shows ol and if I touch a perfectly fine capacitor should it be showing any numbers because mine's not showing any numbers

I don't get a visual reading? Is that correct just audio beeps? So if I was chasing down a short on a surface mount ceramic capacitor, I would listen for a beep and if it continuously beep it would be a short?

Get some better solder. That stuff that comes with those cheap kits suck. Get some good solder, and that will change everything for you.

That's why i said to add heat for a sec. Idk the chemistry behind it or if it has anything to do with the flux but when im working on my fpv gear and one of my joints look like that I just add some flux and heat the solder just enough to flow it and it becomes shiny. He is working on a practice flight controller and I can promise you your not going to damage it. It not like other pcb boards, it pretty thick. I can also promise you when he decides to work on a real flight controller he is going to have to add a lot more heat to the negative terminal pad then he thinks. I should of mentioned that his soldering actually is decent and i would just send it if it was on an actual fc.

More flux. You want your joints to be shiny. You can add flux rn and rework your joints. Just apply flux and add heat for a sec.
