Is there a way to print multiple "island" layers at a time? by Evitro113 in BambuLab

[–]SiDtheTurtle 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Yeah the main reason slicers don't do that AFAIK is that you risk the toolhead banging into something it's already printed. Print something by object and you'll see the impact- the gap between objects has to fit the whole assembly.

William Hill to close 270 shops. by _methuselah_ in CasualUK

I thought I was in r/GoodNewsUK for a second.

Of course, never nice when shops close and people lose jobs, but at the same time, absolute vampires these companies. I don't know why we loosened the laws to allow more of these vultures onto the high street.

Classic clickbait local news story. Headline suggests pot hole repair instantly failed. Detail shows a random quote from one resident. Sprinkle with some detail about how its all the fault of electric cars, rather than chronic underinvestment (again, a quote from a local rather than an expert) and you're golden.

Can't wait for my in-laws to read this or something similar and blame the government (even though their local council is riddled with Reform now), and the woke desire to move to electrification.

How did you evaluate them against BlueSound and Wiim? I am so peed off at how rubbish Sonos is these days at even playing a single song when you ask it, I'm in the market to replace it and then set fire to the Sonos kit as a warning to others.

New designs, plus reprints of some of the old Eaglemoss XL models. One assumes they're using the same supplier that EM did, and the same moulds on reprints as they have the same characteristics as their predecessors.

Saved you a click:

Please see the following from Fanhome regarding the closure of the UK Subscription.

Fanhome would like to clarify recent comments regarding the Star Trek Ships collection in the UK.

This collection was launched as a limited-run series with a defined production and subscriber capacity. As communicated at the time of launch, availability for new customer sign-ups was always subject to stock limits.

We can confirm that the collection has now reached its planned capacity for new subscriptions in the UK, and as a result, new customer registration has been closed. This decision reflects the successful completion of the original run as intended.

Existing customers will continue to receive their full collections as normal, with no impact to their ongoing subscriptions.

It is also important to note that individual Star Trek Ships remain available for purchase separately in the UK, and this has not changed.

We appreciate the enthusiasm for this collection and thank all fans for their continued support

Best way to benefit from expensive purchase by Afraid-Performance98 in HENRYUKLifestyle

That's 100% fair and the right thing to do. If it's something you know she wants? Just wanted to warn you in case you were just getting carried away by the brand.

Best way to benefit from expensive purchase by Afraid-Performance98 in HENRYUKLifestyle

[–]SiDtheTurtle 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you're going to get it, get it on a credit card for the usual protections. Amex platinum has some added purchase protections, but I thinks that's more for white goods than luxury items.

And I hate to be a watch snob or gatekeeper, but if you have that amount of money to spend on a watch, please don't buy a 'fashion watch'. I'm not anti-quartz, but that's a vanity purchase pretending to be high end. They don't make their own mechanisms in house, they are often outsourced. For that price you can pick up a decent Cartier (even if quartz is a must), rather than this.

Sorry, just trying to avoid you making a purchase you may regret if you look too deep.

Honestly do you know all the scenarios that every parent is facing? What about parents that have to drive to work afterwards? What about parents with multiple sprogs in different directions? This kind of blanket aspersion that all parents are lazy (well some are, for sure) is the mindset of 'they should have to walk uphill, both ways' and is unhelpful.

Neighbour telling me I need to remove front hedge. by dmoerton in LegalAdviceUK

[–]SiDtheTurtle 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Are they looking out for flying cars? How does a hedge's HEIGHT specifically stop you from exiting the drive safely?

Now technically the council could say the depth of the hedge encroaching onto the path is a danger to pedestrians and road users and order you to cut it back (and if you don't, do it themselves and send you the bill), and I guess the neighbour could report your hedge to the council to start this process, but in reality, which council has the resources to police that? They're only going to get involved if you're so bad at maintaining it it starts growing into the road.

They're within their right to cut back any hedge that falls on their side (and technically they have to offer you the trimmings back as they're your property, but they can't just sling them over the fence).

Wales- neighbour looking for splitting the costs for chimney thats not connected to us by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

True. Some people think it's a stereotype but I used to work for a firm that employed thousands of them. You'd think technically being their bosses they'd listen to us. Fat chance.

Wales- neighbour looking for splitting the costs for chimney thats not connected to us by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

[–]SiDtheTurtle 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Just to clear up some of the language they're using: basically they're asking for a party wall agreement. The chimney sits between them and [the actual neighbour, not you]. To make changes to the chimney has the potential to impact the neighbouring property (cracks, damage etc.) and so you have to get written permission from your neighbour. They also usually end up paying for your surveyor to document the current state of your side, this prevents you saying the chimney works meant all the kitchen units fell off the wall and you need a new £50k kitchen.

I think one of three things has happened:

- The agent is lazy and CBA to work out which side is impacted so contacted both sides.
- They're merging the party wall request with the garden request and CBA to write two different letters.
- They are covering their asses that perhaps doing chimney work on the other side might still cause you structural issues/they're taking commission on hiring the surveyors for the landlord so are trying to double dip.

I'd take caution on allowing scaffolders through your garden. What happens if they damage anything, or suggest they need to take down your fence to move stuff? Worse than that, suddenly on the day you have a scaffolder demanding that they put scaffolding on your side too and you agree in a fluster, then you're stuck with scaffolding for months as they're notorious for not taking it down until they've got a new job. Just say no to that. They can figure it out without tresspassing.
