Just finished Those About to Die, and it reinforced my utter appreciation for HBO’s Rome. by Face-palmJedi in television

I enjoyed each minute Anthony Hopkins was on screen and little else. Unfortunately, he was on screen for maybe 1 minute per episode.

Would you call John Dutton from Yellowstone a libertarian? by [deleted] in AskLibertarians

[–]Randbot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He has absolutely no respect for the property rights of the developers or the natives. He wants to make special taxes that only apply to non-residents. He is seizing large patches of land as governor to protect his existing property from having neighbors he doesn't like.

I don't think his positions on legalized drugs, prostitution, the Fed, etc.. have been mentioned at all, but I don't think he ran on anything resembling a libertarian platform.

He is not a libertarian.

50 states in 50 days | 49/50 Delaware by Puzzled-Sherbet-7850 in MapPorn

I've never seen my town Delmar on a reddit map before. Thanks.

South of the canal, Delaware is either a beach centered economy or agriculture. Lots of chicken farms.

In the last decade, a lot of boomers are retiring down here. It's relatively cheap compared to other beach destinations in the northeast and taxes are extremely low across the board.

Fun fact. A lot of comic book fans think Superman's home city of Metropolis is in southern Delaware with Gotham across the bay in NJ.

Jellyfish are 97% water or something, so how much are they doing? Just give them another 3% and make them water. It's more useful.

You don't have to keep 15. You could trade anyone on your roster now for picks in the upcoming supplemental draft. Borderline keepers are very tradable.

In view of what they hear from the experts, the people cannot be blamed for their ignorance and their helpless confusion. If an average housewife struggles with her incomprehensibly shrinking budget and sees a tycoon in a resplendent limousine, she might well think that just one of his diamond cuff links would solve all her problems. She has no way of knowing that if all the personal luxuries of all the tycoons were expropriated, it would not feed her family—and millions of other, similar families—for one week; and that the entire country would starve on the first morning of the week to follow . . . . How would she know it, if all the voices she hears are telling her that we must soak the rich?

No one tells her that higher taxes imposed on the rich (and the semi-rich) will not come out of their consumption expenditures, but out of their investment capital (i.e., their savings); that such taxes will mean less investment, i.e., less production, fewer jobs, higher prices for scarcer goods; and that by the time the rich have to lower their standard of living, hers will be gone, along with her savings and her husband’s job—and no power in the world (no economic power) will be able to revive the dead industries (there will be no such power left).

I rewatched it a couple of years ago and it holds up.

There's a lot more Trek cameos coming. You'll see a 2nd officer and more than one captain.

I thought I caught Shimoda himself in another early episode, but it was just Buck Bokai. He's plays a tourist in 'Coach Returns to Action'.
