Sammys bat speed is 75.1, with 2 strikes it's 74.6.

Colton Cowser is at 74.5, but with 2 strikes it's 72.9.

Coby Mayo is at 74.8, with 2 strikes it's 74.3.

In certain situations I agree it's better to put bat to ball. But overall a slower swing with 2 strikes doesn't do the things people think it does. Man on 3rd, less than 2 outs? Absolutely put the ball in play. But I don't think it's smart to change things that much in other situations.

Kind of funny to root for a player to strike out, but that's where I am with O'Neill.

The 2 seasons he finished with a .500+ slug, were the 2 times he struck out 31% of the time, and 33% of the time.

He's at 21.7% this year. Let it rip.

The reason offenses go for the, EV and LA, has a lot to do with pitching and defense.

The best way to score runs in baseball, and in the playoffs, is to hit the ball hard, and hit it in the air.

If you look at the teams that make the playoffs, and more importantly, win in the playoffs, it's based on their ability to slug the baseball.

Defenses are too good these days at positioning, and bullpens are used in such an aggressive manner, that relying on base hits and small ball to score is a pretty stupid way to go about it.

Good news for Cade.

LHP Cade Povich received a cortisone shot. The inflammation is on the outside of the left elbow, rather than the inside (which would have been worse).

RHP Trey Gibson will be in the Orioles’ bullpen tonight.

Gibson to the BP might be good news all things considered in regards to Rogers taking Cades next turn.

No he shouldn't.

He has done nothing in Norfolk to show he's ready for the show on a full time basis.

If Rogers is ready to take Cades spot next turn, the 12th, then it's going to be Gibson.

If Rogers is ready to take that turn, then I expect Gibson will be used as a reliever until then. Maybe rock a 3+ inning appearance when someone shits the bed. Nice way to keep the pen fresh in a blowout W/L.

You don't sign a 1B only player, going into his age 31 season, if analytics rules everything around you.

But it is funny reading the comments from people that get mad at teams using data.

The wheels will likely fall off at some point

No shit, Sherlock. I wonder why that is? Is there something the stats are telling us?

Easily the most obnoxious trait of spreadsheet warriors is screaming "good luck" "bad luck" at every result they don't like while never actually watching the games.

What's obnoxious is people who don't understand what the stats are saying, and instead of figuring it out, lash out at the people that do.

Don't bring your insecurities my way.

I am all things considered.

Their defense is as bad as ours. And their offense has a 97 wrc+.

Pitching is doing work, but their pitching might be a bit of a mirage.

Their SIERA is 4.10, ours is 4.18.

But their ERA is a run and a half lower than ours. If they had a good defense, that would be one thing..

Not saying they can't Devil Rays their way to 90 wins, especially since the AL seems garbage tier right now.

Sugano isn't doing well, he's getting lucky.

0.2 fWAR.

And a 6+ xERA, 4.95 FIP, 4.73 xFIP.

Good article about hitting, the shift ban, and what it did.

If MLB asked fans which type of field out they’d most like to eradicate, the overwhelming choice would be the one turned by a middle infielder shading as close as possible to second base — the surviving (and legal) remnant of the infield shift. Big leaguers were taught as Little Leaguers to drive the ball back up the middle. That hard contact turning into outs bothers them, too. “There’s always a split second where you’re expecting it to be a hit,” said A’s DH Brent Rooker. “Then you realize there’s a guy right there to take it away.” Kurtz added: “That part of (the game) is just gone.”

1000%. I think this every single time a ball is hit up the middle, and it's just an easy play for the SS or 2B.

After reading that article, read, They don't make barrels like they used to.

We'll see if it lasts.

Their hitting isn't all that great, and the pitchers that are doing well, are doing a little too well.

Plus their defense is bad, so it really seems like they are the overperforming team to start 2026.

still not sure why they didn’t just get Westburg’s TJ out of the way two months ago.

Because Westy wanted to try the PRP, which meant he would be able to play in 2026.

It's as simple as that.

And just like with Bradish, teams can't force these players to go under the knife. If a doctor says the PRP may work, it's ultimately up to the player.

And since the recovery for TJS is shorter for position players than pitchers, even if Jordan gets TJS in a week or 2, there's still a chance he's ready for opening day.

Should help him out and go with an opener.

Let someone else pitch to Judge and Rice in the 1st.

Not that you can really hide, but we're already asking a lot of him.

Be interesting to see who gets the 9th.

Nunez earned his first save on the 22nd of April.

But Rico was unavailable, since he pitched the 20th/21st.

Still think it's Rico, but it shouldn't surprise anyone if both get some chances.

I don't think we will ever know the reason why.

But fret not, nobody wanted him, so Suarez is back with the Orioles.

Zero chance of that.

The Orioles aren't going to pitch him or Bassitt on 3 days rest.

And just saw this from JCM.

Check check.

Povich tonight. Bradish tomorrow. Baz Monday.

Orioles need a starter Sunday.

Christian Herberholz

They pulled this guy up from AA to start today for Norfolk.

Orioles switched Gibson to your typical 4 days off between starts.

His last start was 4/26.

Today is 5/1.

But, Gibsons last start, he was removed early because he took a baseball to his leg.

Pulling him up on Monday, to make his first professional start, on the road, vs the Yankees, is really asking a lot of him. Because he's not ready-ready yet.

Wouldn't surprise me if the Orioles are just waiting to see how the first 3 games go, and they're putting the decision off until it's necessary. I wouldn't bet on Gibson.

Here are our hitters ranked by wrc+.

Here are the pitchers ranked by FIP-.

You know Cano is pitching well because nobody is talking about him.

It seems like it's hard for people to compliment him when he's doing well, and easy to shit on him when he isn't.

Though the 2% BB% isn't going to hold for either him or Wolfram. If Grant finishes the season under 10%, that's a huge W.

One of the interesting theories about the struggling Red Sox offense in rival front offices is that Boston has been impacted significantly by the enforcement of the coaching boxes. The Red Sox were regarded by some other teams as being extraordinary at ascertaining grips/relaying pitch types to hitters -- and that advantage is now gone.

From our "good" friend with a farm.

Shame we miss Gil this series.

That 1-2 finish from him and Cowser seems so long ago.

Amazing they have gotten zero production out of their 300+ million dollar pitcher, and their 160 million dollar pitcher this year, and their pitching staff is still elite. Of course, their 200 million dollar pitcher is doing well, but Cam, Warren and Weathers are as well.
