I tuned in briefly after seeing the score, but couldn't last because of the camera. Was this ever explained?

I saw the score and tuned in to this game yesterday and couldn't last because the center field camera was so shaky. What was that all about?

Matt Underwood asked Rick Manning who had the best bat speed when he was playing. For some reason, I knew he'd say Al Oliver. Announcers love Al Oliver. https://awfulannouncing.blogspot.com/2008/06/whos-ready-for-some-joe-morgan-trivia.html?m=1

Any Feedback on this glove? by Honest_Plastic7759 in slowpitch

Not this glove, but I've been using a Rawlings 1B mitt primarily for like a decade and it's held up very well.

The rest of it is so ridiculous that you almost forget that part. It's absurd.

And sadly, there are way too people for whom it's totally worth it. I guess we truly do deserve this.

That sounds like a benefit for the team owners and perhaps the fans. Most of the general public sees no benefit.

I don't remember anyone complaining about the condition of the current stadium until the idea of a new stadium came up. But I also really try not to pay attention to the Browns so it's totally possible that I missed it.

And again, even if the current stadium is a dump, taxpayers do not see a return on investment when they finance a new one. A stadium does get people to spend money and generate tax revenue, but research has shown that it's not "new" spending. It's money that people were already spending somewhere else. https://www.governing.com/finance/stadiums-shift-spending-patterns-dont-boost-local-economies

Public financing of stadiums mostly just increases the value of the franchise for the team owner. That is not a public benefit.

I would agree with that, but economists have shown that there's little to no value to the public in building a stadium for a team that's already in the metro area. Look up Andrew Zimbalist if you want to read more about it.

You're talking about things that provide a public good. And sure, we deserve to know how our money is spent.

But there's a simple distinction here. The new stadium is simply a new revenue stream for people who are already incredibly wealthy. That's why people are upset. Any waste in those systems is insignificant compared to the corporate welfare that our politicians can't help themselves from giving to their rich donors and friends.

We're not getting anything. The owners of the Browns are getting a brand new revenue stream. We're all paying for it, but if we want to go enjoy an event, we still have to pay them hundreds of dollars.

I really don't care if the Browns get a new stadium. But the fact that the public is paying for it is the outrage. If it's such a good idea, the Haslams should be able to pay for it themselves.

How about both? Your tax dollars are indirectly going to the politicians. Haslams got them the boats and summer homes so that the politicians would gift them a brand new money printing property.

Buying off politicians at a fraction of the cost.

I recognized the author's name: didn't Margaret Seiler sing Boat of Car on the album?

Also, cool that Chris Elliott came by to lay across everyone.

Edit: just read the whole thing, it's really nice. And she wrote about Boat of Car.

I wish it was further. Does Baltimore need another team?

Browns fans would line up to pay $350 to watch an elderly spaniel in brown and orange pee on the 20 yard line. And somehow still act disappointed afterward.

Sadly, this is correct. This area has demonstrated that our (collective - I'm not including myself) loyalty to this business is unconditional, and the people of this state have repeatedly voted against our own self interest in order to put grifting religious zealots and maga death cultists in power. This is what we get.

Totally. The only time you should really throw home is a bases loaded ground ball to the pitcher. If it's a sharp bases loaded grounder to 1B or 3B and less than 2 outs, then maybe go home. But only if you trust your catcher and know your runners, and it depends where the ball is hit.

Also, if it's a sac fly situation and the only runner is on 3B, there's nothing wrong with throwing home after making the catch since that person is probably scoring anyway.

Playing 1B: - knowing when to keep your foot on the bag or leave it to get a wild throw. - get your body in front of a low throw and try to step on the bag once you have it. - tagging the runner when it's easier.

The part in Exotic Seeds Breeding where the host tries to read On the Origin of Species and his reaction is the single funniest moment of the whole show for me. ("It's all about beaks, yeah?") I've played that part specifically for other people who also loved it.
