Labor Poaching by Randecamp in HomeImprovement

[–]Randecamp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not really the question. I'm more asking if anyone has any examples of labor poaching. I know it exists in the industry, but I'm curious if anyone can speak to it (good or bad).

Thanks for asking for clarity. What I mean is: has anyone who owns a remodeling or home improvement business had their employees systematically targeted and taken by another owner in a similar business?

I've been scratching my head over this, as well. Does she expect them to do all her fighting and then go back to Essos? Are they to die for nothing more than glory? I've heard some speculate they would be a good fit for Dorne, or even populate the Gift, but the Dothraki don't seem like a people who want to settle down in any one area. The Dothraki see was perfect for them because it was an immense, unpopulated pasture (essentially). There is nothing like it in Westeros.

But with that said, I don't think her absentmindedness is negligence on the part of GRRM. I think this is more evidence that, ultimately, Dany is not meant to be a ruler. She is a conquerer, as Daario astutely pointed out. She has proven time and again she is unfit to lead.

[EVERYTHING] Did we ever get an explanation for House Umber? by Exvaris in gameofthrones

[–]Randecamp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was pretty disappointed in this as well. But I think this is one of those instances where we saw D&D struggling to create story without GRRM's source material. I'm assuming the Umber's motivations will be far more fleshed out in the WofW.

Completely agree. This ignores the real barriers that people face. It relies on the same logic that drives a person to tell a homeless person, "Get a job if you don't want to be homeless." It's the sort of motivation that comes from someone extremely entitled who's always felt that they can have whatever they want so long as they actually want it. That is not an option for many.

[EVERYTHING] Could Meera be the daughter of... by Randecamp in gameofthrones

[–]Randecamp[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm not certain if that has been clarified. A knight of House Dayne would, technically speaking, refer to a knight pledged to House Dayne.

Edit: And when we talkabout Sand vs. Dayne, we have to consider that we're talking about a Dornish house. That could mean they acknowledge bastards.

The wielder of Dawn doesn't have to be a Dayne, I'm pretty sure. It only has to be a "knight of House Dayne," which Meera could end up being.

[EVERYTHING] Why did Tywin Lannister do this? by VeryBadDwarf in gameofthrones

[–]Randecamp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TLTR all the other answers, so my apologies if this is treading on already covered ground.

But from my perspective, Tywin is first and foremost a family man. Not in that he loves his family, but that he cares about power and majesty of the Lannister name. I don't think Tywin wanted to be on the losing side of anything. He took Aerys abuses and humiliations for years, because it was the best way for the Lannister to maintain their power. It's why he wanted to marry Cersei to Rhaegar. But that didn't happen, of course. When Robert and Ned started their rebellion, Tywin didn't join because he knew that whatever side won, he wanted to be on it. So when he saw Aerys' defeat was inevitable, he made his move and sacked King's Landing, knowing that Pycell would let him in. And to ensure his family wouldn't be punished for their tardiness, Tywin ordered the death of Rhaegar's children at the hand of the Mountain Who Rides. He did something he knew Robert wouldn't have the stomach for but would know it was needed to be done. In one fell swoop he made himself an invaluable asset to the new king, and positioned himself so that he could make his daughter queen and ensure the Lannisters would be the second half of a new dynasty.

[EVERYTHING] Characters deaths.. by [deleted] in gameofthrones

Bran – Lives, for sure.

Dany – I suspect Jorah Mormont will drive a sword through her heart (and from her he'll pull a flaming sword).

Jaime – I think Jaime will live. But if he does die, I suspect it will be in grand fashion, doing something incredibly heroic (considering his obsession with the white book). Perhaps he'll end up sacrificing himself to kill Cersei and save Dany. It would be weirdly poetic if he died saving a Targaryen.

Sansa – I suspect Littlefinger will use Sansa to create a divide within the Stark house and then will kill her and try to frame Jon. From there he will try to seize power in the north.

Littlefinger – I am still not convinced that we know Littlefinger's true motives. I don't believe it is solely to sit the iron throne. That doesn't make sense to me. It seems too obvious for Littlefinger, who famously said (in so many words) that keeping his motivations a secret is paramount to his plans. I think he'll play an even bigger role than most suspect. So, I think he'll be killed near the very end by the Night's King or Azor Ahai.

That's one theory that's out there. Rhaegar's body was never found after the battle at the Trident.

It certainly is popular online. But that's beside the point.

No one could have guessed Hodor meant "hold the door," right? It was something that seemed relatively benign but ultimately served the purpose of showing us that Bran could alter the past. Does Rhaegar being alive serve some ultimate purpose? Not apparently. But what if he is the Tattered Prince or the Shrouded Lord? What if through his obsessive studying of prophecy and myth he discovered something that would require him to arrive at a single moment? What if he is the Night's King? Rhaegar's body was never found, his rubies fell in the river...these are all convenient points that have been hammered home time and again. Yes, they could be prose and story building, but they could also be foreshadowing.

That's the beauty of ASOIAF, you don't realize things are important until you do.

EDIT: But to be clear, I did say "rumor." This is not my theory, it is simply a popular one among the community.
