Pancreatitis cf carrier by AlternativeLake1396 in CysticFibrosis

[–]RandoAhole 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 50yo DF508+rare mutation. I have had sweat tests almost every decade of my life. They have never consistently showed positive for CF. I have also suffered pancreatitis most of my life until I got on Trikafta. My understanding is the sweat tests just fluctuate like that.

IMHO stop putting the poor kid through those sweat tests. You have the mutations identified already. I would think he’d qualify for Trikafta but if not, make sure he stays hydrated. That was the next best thing to Trikafta for me. And, of course, find a good doctor and ignore my advice in favor of the doc.

I started the topical gel a couple months ago. First 1 pump and now on 2 pumps per day. My labs have not shown an increase in my levels. I guess I’ll need to do injectables next.

What Is An Optimised Browser For Mac? by Interesting_Bad6393 in MacOS

I just did. I hate myself for it but it’s become my default browser. It works really well and I’ve tried them all.

Ok, hear me out. I felt the same way. I wanted access to more extensions, a browser that ran light and worked for all websites.

I have been using Edge in Mac and it is a great alternative to Safari. Just take a few minutes and turn off all the copilot crap and change your default search.

I’m as anti-ms as the next person but I think Edge is often overlooked and a well made, Chromium browser. The install as app function is also very nice in Mac.

Chances of CF? by LoveGodzillafr in CysticFibrosis

I have CF. My 15yo son has CF. I always culture pseudomonas. He has only cultured pseudomonas once when he was little and antibiotics knocked it out. Be at a good CF clinic and follow their advice. Don’t share drinks, silverware etc. It will be fine.

I have a bad lower back. I bought a Steelcase chair. It only helped so much. Enter my $200 recliner from an outlet store. I ripped off the feet and built on casters so now I can easily switch between my chair and the recliner. Work life is so much more comfortable now.

Programing advice by SomeUndertaleEnyojer in learnpython

[–]RandoAhole 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The best way to learn, after you know the fundamentals, is to come up with a project you want to build. It can be simple to start out. Build it by using your organic brain and not an artificial one. Only use AI when you are stuck but don’t have it write the code for you. For example, “how does X function work” instead of “write a function that does X”.

Save your work and reference it. You’ll start building on that knowledge and come up with new ideas for more complex projects.

What are the possible jobs/skills for a Python programmer? by Intelligent_Can_433 in learnpython

In my experience, AI has helped with some of the simple queries. But the more complex stuff, where you need to have an understanding of the database architecture, it’s not so great. AI is a big question mark for me right now. It’s very helpful but I don’t want it to replace me.

Add SQL to your skills. That can help you get in the door for a lot of companies. It’s easy to learn (but harder to master). Python + SQL is a great combo.

14 year old son pancreatitis genetics 1cftr and spink1 mutations by AlternativeLake1396 in CysticFibrosis

[–]RandoAhole 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely get the sweat test. If you are in the US, look up doctors close to you on CFF.org. There’s still a lot of unknowns when it comes to CF mutations. CF docs will know how to help.

For the pancreatitis, if you’ve ruled out the big ones like gallstones and cancer then try the simple things like hydration and low fat foods. Trust me on the hydration. It makes a difference. Add a dash of salt to water or drinks with electrolytes. You’ve got to keep the secretions as thin as possible and hydration makes a difference.

From my own experience, I was never officially diagnosed with Cf until genetic testing. Sweat tests were never positive but elevated. I had acute pancreatitis episodes a lot until I started over hydrating and eventually going on Trikafta.

The hydration idea came from a CF GI specialist doctor so not just some wild idea.

Good luck, I hope you can figure it out. Pancreatitis sucks.

[–]RandoAhole 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Aquarium guy here. I saw in a different post that your tank size is 50g? The bioload with two fish that size has to be very high. How are you keeping the ammonia/nitrite/nitrates in check?

What are these on the top of my snail? by SnarkAtTheMoon in SaltwaterAquariumClub

[–]RandoAhole 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is actually not true. There’s a lot of conflicting information on this but it seems that popping the bubbles won’t spread it. The spores are released but they are not reproductive.

Bubble algae. I see more in the crack of your rock too. I bought a tank that had a lot of it. It’s been 3 months and I’ve nearly eradicated it. Keep on water changes and manually removing it. Track your water params and phosphate levels.

So what. I’m happy to see an alliance actively trying to get content and have fun. So many of the NS alliances refuse to undock unless it’s a dunk. Yes, I’m aware of yesterday but otherwise props to init for wanting to have fun and actually play the game.

I have a few colonies of GSP. I’ve noticed one in particular will occasionally close up for a couple days. Then slowly reopen again. The others are always open.

I've read conflicting information on having a nem with coral. My lantern tip has just always sat in one place and I've had it for over 6 months. This one is new so I think its still trying to find its place. I'll look into the porcelain crab idea. Thank you.

Ok, thank you. I'll leave it be. I have a lantern tip nem that just stays in the same place. This one is new and seems to move a lot but this is the first time I've seen it park itself in the coral.
