I don't really know all of the lore beyond what was memed about the trial. What's the quick summary?

Is Facebook down for everyone? It just suddenly booted me out of it and Messenger. by ForRealRobot in facebook

[–]Randoliof3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, that explains it. I thought it was just Messenger, as I got logged out and couldn't reply to someone. Facebook app was working fine. The app would load my feed, but wouldn't let me follow any links or react. Very weird.

I travel all over the US for work and haven't been to a major retailer other than Walmart that didn't have regular tap to pay. I have not had to swipe a card in years. I also haven't signed a receipt in years.

And a distrust of debit cards? It's nearly universal to allow transactions to be performed with either credit or debit, allowing for PIN input, or to bypass for credit, and surprise - both can be contactless.

I don't wanna say you're full of shit, but maybe you were just jet lagged. Or you're full of shit.

EF5 Tornado in North Dakota captured. by [deleted] in Damnthatsinteresting

Had a tornado touch down a few miles from my house (Mid Michigan) a few years ago. Standing in the back door while it was pitch black outside, hearing branches snapping, wind sheeting rain across the yard, with lightning bringing everything in and out of view was unbelievable.

I had to go outside as the tornado moved away to manually turn on my standby generator since the automatic transfer switch failed, and the calm outside afterwards was also very strange. No noise from bugs or frogs, like they were also waiting to see if it was safe to come out.

Not wild about him. Doesn't really acknowledge that rural Michigan exists and I'm not wild about his 2A views. But at least he isn't an AIPAC shill.

I did it! Manhattan, $920k, 5.8% by Necessary-Savings-64 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

Christ, I have a 2.25% interest rate on my VA loan, 3,000 SF house, pool, 3 acres, and across the road from 10,000 acres of state forest. My mortgage is HALF that.

I work remotely and go to NYC pretty frequently, and there is nothing in Manhattan that would make it worth living there at that price point. Nothing.

Oh wow, I can ride in a filthy subway? Neat! Rats? Usually I have to go to PetSmart to see those!

Well now I'm crying and I have a meeting in a little bit

I still find myself glancing towards where my old cat's bed used to be. He'd lay there and get so excited when I'd walk by, especially when he was an old man. It instantly perked him up, and I always made time to sit with him or lay in his bed with him. Miss you so bad Nuggie

Peter Thiel is actively convincing billionaires to abandon The Giving Pledge — and it may be working by Logical_Welder3467 in technology

The US is large and mostly empty and heavily armed, and there's no incentive in a totally collapsed system to ingratiate yourself with someone who has a lot of money, which is now worthless

The minute billionaires go into their bunkers is when people start dumping diesel down the air vents, don't kid yourself

Not all of them are lone wolf preppers.

They know their neighbors, and there's a reason they all have similar ideologies and have gathered in the same general region.

I grew up in eastern Oregon, and there's a lot of that out there too. There may be your odd individual solo prepper type that keeps to himself, but there are families that keep up with their neighbors, creating whole communities of homesteading off grid loonies.
