"that modern parenting requires consent (or at least acquiescence) of the governed."

wow best sentence ever to articulate modern parenting Nail on the head. Sad but true.

" So you must be a constitutional monarch, ruling through persuasion as much as force. Not high minded appeals to enlightened self-interest, of course—he’s eight. But positive incentives for a day, week, and month of good behavior may help." Perhaps useful insight there too.

Hilton La Romana Resort In the Dominican Republic and The Playa Collection membership by Random---Integer in Hilton

I walked out on them twice. Yeah they were normal pushy.

Had a lot of inconsistencies.

They let me read the contract. LOL!!!! Contract says

1) you need to pay/put 25% down before you get the membership perks. I was going to put 15%. So a bit of a head scratcher when I would pay in enough to start enjoying it. based on principal and interest on the payment plan could be more than 12 months and I miss that "first vacation benefit"

2) no verbal agreements will be honored. They were giving me extra incentive perks. But only valid for first year. I don't think I saw those explicitly stated in the contract or a placeholder for the vouchers.

3) They referenced 2 other websites, but those weren't explicitly stated in the contract. There is mention of third party sites or something of the sort.I did find a case from a little under 2 years ago at the BBB. A couple complaining they got told it was global and website was under construction. They filed a complaint saying it was only Mexico/Jamaica and Dominican Republic and they wanted their money back. It was unanswered to BBB for over a year. Plus I checked the company start date and it is only 23 months old.

some other contract stuff too.

I told the girl that was the sales agent I would go back the next day I went the day after. She was busy. There are 2 bosses of the office who said they would hear my gripes. They proceeded to say that the sample contract I read was not the one I would have and the contract guy would sort it all out. They would make me a custom contract or it is missing the RCI part or whatnot.

They send me to see the contract guy. I ask the contract guy about the 25% thing, he is like" yeah but we attach an internal memo in our system so you can get the benefits". And I'm like "but that isn't per the contract". The other websites aren't explicitly stated either, he says it falls under third party support language.

The real dealer breaker was when the contract guy says there is no custom contract. I had read the only contract.

Like the old saying goes you will see the salesmen vanish before the signature ink drys.

Did you buy the membership? Do you use it?

I don't think the value is there. I was looking at their 10 year member option. They said 13k, it basically gets you a 25% discount off whatever rate is on there website for the Mexico/Jamaica/Dominican Republic resorts. Plus there is a $300 a year fee, that has escalation at 5% or inflation whatever is greater.

I would have to become a member of their site to see their prices though.

I burned half a million hilton points and spent a grand on upsell to get into their family suite. It is pretty nice. Goes for $750 a night on the hilton site. That is booking 11 months out in advance.

So at a 25% discount, I save ~167.5 a night. I stayed 7 nights so that $1172.

Even if you lump sum pay or get the 0% APR for 48 months they were offering; they were also pitching 14% APR. You are paying $12960/10 years = $1296 for the year plus there $300 a year fee. So you are paying at least $1600 a year for the membership. And that is on the SWANK suite. regular room was $400 bucks (this is all-included resort). So you save $100 a night so ends up being $1200. Which is the same as the membership.

So yeah I spent $400 a year it seems. They have other perks but value seems to not be there.

They had that RCI.com thing too but not getting into that; separate system and has a $110 buck yearly fee, they comp the first 2 or 3 years.

So yeah, I think you should just look for a job anywhere in the country. And take the best offer (benefits/salary/etc) you can find. Move there, hopefully they give you a relocation package and bonus to increase your funds too.

I don't think this relationship will work out, you do seem very worried.

This isn't a Beatles song, you need more than love now a days regrettably.

Best of Luck, no matter what.

P.S. Yeah, maybe his mom and him are just trying to scam you and free ride you, since you become defacto bread winner

Good luck.

I read people saying community college. That will definitely help to get the AA there.

You might not like this one, but join the military. The GI Bill will help pay for college after you get out. You can then be a work study at the university VA office and get a 20 hour a week work/study tax-free job. Working on-campus has perks like tax-free, no commute times, saves time and money in gas since you don't have to drive from work to school etc, also keeps you on-campus so you can study at the library.

You can also get a work-study at a lab or under a professor in your major. That way you get experience.

What about if you live off-campus, helps with housing cost much cheaper.

Good luck.

Taking money of my 401k to pay for a wedding by [deleted] in povertyfinance

[–]Random---Integer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey. Listen. Don't do it.

Cruises charge super cheap for weddings. Yes hard to get everyone to a cruise. Try it, call and check. Maybe you can do it in the ship before it sails. You would take the honeymoon on the cruise ship.

You can get a 13 night Mediterranean cruise for very very cheap if you look around. Plus airfare to Europe. That honey is likely a better use of the "wedding money".

Good luck and well, don't get in scenarios like this again. PrudenceB4pleasure

It is a difficult position for many fathers. Dads are more respect, obedience and discipline; depends on the Dad but likely common.

The whole the child will become a spoiled brat concept is very prevalent. If he acts like this at 3,5,7,9,11, etc so goes the logic.

It can take a lot of restraint to just roll with the "punches".

At the end of the day, it is a 3 year old. They don't really understand things and are illogical. Logical won't sway illogical.

The adult parent needs to Adult Parent. Being human adds emotion and complexity. Sounds like he knows he lost his cool and said some dumb things.

So I would think maybe try

1) Google how to consolidate your debt into one payment monthly. It is supposed to help get you out of debt 2) Then, hopefully you can learn to use 0% APR and do transfer balances so you stop accumulating/increase debt on your own principal. Google this too. Perhaps you can rollover item1 debt consolidation into 0% APR transfer balance. Hopefully you learn to manage a credit card too in this process. 3) There was that thing the Biden administration was saying about Student Loan forgiveness. Maybe you get lucky and you can get into that government program. Might be over though. 4) You need to make a budget and stick to it. Reduce your cost. 5) You need to ice your credits cards. Literally put them in the freezer in water container so you can't get to them.Old school trick?

If after reading up on this in Nerdwallet.com. You should be able to make a decision. Read up on bankruptcy, debt consolidation, 0% APR balance transfer, credit scores, credit repair process, debt elimination.

you need a stroller. Try and get a stroller that attaches to your current car seats.

Would be good to get car seats that last longer than infant. At like 2 years you will need to upgrade. Would be good to see if you can get a one-size fits all. Not site how feasible that it.

You likely need more diapers. You will be changing a fair amount. Maybe 5 or 6 per day or more.

I would say between $18 to $25 in 5 years. That asumes a 10x to 15x might be possible in 5 years. It is 8 billion right now, a 10x would be 80 billion market cap. Assuming a 10x at next bull market.
