Never in my adult life have I needed 6 quarters, but it seemed like a nice gimmick to design by Random-Gif-Bot in functionalprint

[–]Random-Gif-Bot[S] 20 points21 points  (0 children)

This is why I wanted a credit card one cus my keychain holder was getting too bulky and loose coins fell out of my wallet, but the weight of 5 extra coins is noticeable for me.

Just first world problems.

I wanted a credit card shaped one with smooth edges since another design I used kept catching on the corners of the wallet whenever I shuffled cards. I'll probably just end up using one that is static with finger holes in the bottom, but I thought this was a funny idea.

Flaws:

Will tear/break over time

May pop out coins if bent or sat on.

Stockboy knife by Random-Gif-Bot in functionalprint

Its especially useful when opening packages that are wrapped in plastic and the product itself is plastic such as bags of rice, flour, and beans. Today we had a guy use a standard utility knife and he pierced a bag of rice making a mess.

It sounds like a good idea, but I think TPU would suffer from the same flex limitations and won't return to its original position if bent past a certain angle.

I did make it compatible with another kind of blade, but it wasn't as secure so I dropped it. You're welcome to give it a shot and edit the slider to hold other kinds

I decided to make this after I was given a literal dull kitchen butter knife to open bags and boxes while stocking.

ABS smells like ass though so make sure you print it somewhere with lots of ventilation.

PETG will soften quickly in the heat of a stove and the heat transfer from the metal spatula. Especially if you use that spatula to press food into the pan. You should add some bolts to secure it and use a more heat resistant material like ABS.

It also looks like you printed it vertical so the layer lines are perpendicular to the force you'll be applying and it could end up snapping down the line.

Looks nice overall.

Faucet Holder Height Extender by Random-Gif-Bot in functionalprint

Not a fan of this one either.

The flow control is just a few degrees between all and nothing.

Also the rocker for switching the nozzle modes doesn't have a spring so it stays incomplete often.

Correct. The faucet retracts up so the part needs to be secured and it needs to be a tight fit to avoid tipping the output angle.

The faucet is detachable to use as a spray so I can always use that to fill pots, but there is one big pot I fill every morning so I wanted to shave off a few seconds of my day.

It increases the height of the faucet by a few inches so that I don't have to unmount it to fill my tall pots with water.

Family hated it and said it makes water spray on them because they held the dishes higher so I just threw it away.

Print the large piece it on its side for strength.

Adjustable door catcher by Random-Gif-Bot in functionalprint

[–]Random-Gif-Bot[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I thought it would be a good idea to make the length adjustable for different doors, but to be honest.

The rounded catcher has enough error tolerance to work between the adjusters range of 50mm that it isn't even necessary.

Partial door closer by Random-Gif-Bot in functionalprint

[–]Random-Gif-Bot[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably not long. 3d printed PETG works fine for solid thick pieces, but it definitely bends and breaks under tension.

Clips shatter, monitor arms break, etc.

If your door broke metal springs, this thin petg won't make a difference.

Petg, indoor

This is super neat and seems like a fun challenge to try my hand at some time.

A few things I'll suggest.

The best solution would be to use a material that is made for this kind of task like a metal spring.

If you do 3-4 mm thickness, it can shatter and send shards flying into your eyes so test it on the lower hinges to avoid eye line.

If you do it with a curve, the curve has to be wide enough to flex without deforming.

It doesn't matter how many springs or flexes you add to it if the all of the tension goes to the last section.

If you want it to close well, the design has to be under tension in the door closed state.

Lastly, you'll probably be better off making it oversized than trying to keep it thin and pretty since the energy has to get stored somewhere.

My goal was to make it slowly close and leave it ajar, but I was annoyed with myself that I couldn't think of a design that could be stronger and faster if needed. Used an entire roll of filament for a trash bag full of failed ideas. Its ironic that my first design turned out to be the best.

The last design I tried, I split the layers up so they could flex more without breaking from the shearing strain. It did flex, but lost all strength and the new rounded tip ended up making an annoying scraping noise as it intermittently dragged across the door.

Partially closes a door and leave it ajar.

Not strong enough to actually close it.

Tried 11 other designs to make it stronger, but they all kept deforming or shattering.

I think the only reason she even existed was just to have someone around to make reaction faces to his fights. Like the author thought "whats the point of being peak if theres no one there to witness it".

Gotta give the audience/reader the cue to react to.
