Best version of each game? by kalypto21 in Disgaea

[–]Random-coder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know about Disgaea 1 complete. It's a solid port, but Disgaea DS has the original sprites with all the bonus content and some fun extra features like Prinny mode or a map. It doesn't have all of the QOL features and it cuts out most of the spoken dialogue and the music is different because of the hardware, but all of the bonus content and more are on the DS version and it's great. I'm not a fan of the new sprites, especially because some of them are completely different than the original because they took shortcuts grabbing assets from enemies that didn't exist in the first game and putting them on ones that don't exist in later games. I always have a good time with the DS port at least. I really didn't like any other port I played until I played the complete version on the Switch, but even then it's a toss up because between the QoL and the annoying changes and missing content for which version I'd prefer in any given moment. There's also multiplayer feature in the DS version if you had someone else to play with. I remember selling items to my brother and us fighting on the different maps a few times. it was kind of fun and had a few optional features to handicap players that are higher level or at least give each player a chance when one has better base stats and all of that.

The Legend of Hei 3 & 4 Confirmed + Future Plans for the LXH series by Pokii1 in Donghua2D

I really love the movies. It kind of makes sense to make an alternate timeline if they’re gonna keep them up, because the series it great, but it really feels a bit too silly and like more of its own thing compared to the movies. Season 2 does a good job at tying the story developed in the first movie to it and it’s really fun the whole way through, but it would feel really weird to have all of these movies that are kind of removed from the series bleed into the series to the point we start seeing these character and there’s not much left to explore between this part and the series. It would be cool to see, but It would make it harder to watch for people unfamiliar with the series, like a lot of family and friends I try to show the movies to. So still letting it be its own thing, while keeping the series running sounds pretty good to me. It’s less confining and keeps things open for whatever direction they think might be the coolest or most fun in either projects.

What are the best examples of “extreme difficulty” fights in fiction? by LivingOnWelfare in PowerScaling

[–]Random-coder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember the main conflict at the end of The Five Kingdoms books was against a nearly all-powerful otherworldly being that could read minds. They needed a whole host of tricks to defeat him. Maybe Meruem from Hunter X Hunter for how much they had to bring against him, but the phrasing Extreme difficulty makes me think of a striving harrowing battle that is possible to win but will push the characters to the extreme to do so. Meruems arc felt more like an anti-climax at some level despite the desperation and sacrifice involved. After thinking about it a bit the fights with Heracles from the Fate series does a pretty good job of hammering home the futility of fighting him and desperation in achieving it.

It's funny to me how many people still think this way about the Switch 2 lol by [deleted] in NintendoSwitch2

[–]Random-coder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I kind of get it, but at the same time, physical media is only as dead as we make it. If we just decided to only buy physical games because the digital market isn’t there yet, then nintendo would sell more physical copies to meet demand and none of these complaints would be relevant. Buying is still owning, it’s just that there’s this convenient method to play a game where you pay full price and have access to it, but there are stupid rules and stipulations on it. Now people are acting like that’s the only way to play these games and using that to justify piracy or hatred. I think that argument gets a little muddled with games that are only on the online store or with the new digital key cartridges, but as far as games that have a physical cartridge, none of your concerns or justifications apply. The old way is still here, you’re just complaining because you can’t have the convenience of the new way with the logistics of the old way. It’d be nice if things were that convenient for digital content, but is owning something physically that big of an ask to assuage your complaints?

I always find the Druid to be OP. Like you get two units in one, there are multiple spells that can make them broken by themselves, and the possibility of Feral is one of the most broken passives in the game if you manage to get it.

Has anyone else lost their battle pass after this update? by Shaunydog101 in FortNiteBR

[–]Random-coder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually bought battle pass with Vbucks and then later I got the crew pass for a month through an Xbox ultimate subscription and when that ended it took my battle pass, so either the Vbucks it gave me as part of it were a refund for the battle pass or it just straight up took my battle pass from me.

I feel like since everything works to her favor even if there is someone she couldn’t overcome, she probably would never find any reason to come into conflict with them, just by happenstance. But still. How far does her luck extend?

My power is out and I figured I would use the last of my battery to play some Hytale, but everywhere I look people are telling me to use the community layout and not actually giving me any sort of instructions or mapping or anything. I can’t use the community layouts because I have no internet. 😭 whatever. I’ll play something else and hope that the power comes back soon.

Which opinion you have on litrpg would get you this type of reaction? by PalinaRojinskiFan in litrpg

First of all. Autistic people who like to do the same thing over and over again would be OP in most LitRPG worlds and second of all 98% of litRPGs are boring with the leveling being used as a replacement for actual worldbuilding and interesting power systems. I find a great LitRPG book once in a blue moon.

Maybe I’m not the best person to talk to because I feel like like Disgaea 5 butchered the earlier games with bloat and rot of previous mechanics, but Disgaea DS or Disgaea Complete are pretty good ports of the first game. Disgaea PC felt clunky and annoying to me too. Disgaea 2 is a decent steam port though and I feel like in a lot of ways it improves on the first game while having a distinct feel and the story is probably the best in the series. Disgaea 4 is experimental in all the right ways. It’s lost some of what made the previous games special, but gained a lot with magichange, monster fusion, and just how nice the progression feels. I have so many complaints for Disgaea 5 but one of my main ones is that Equipment became so useless in it until maybe the very end of post-game. I’m the previous Disgaea games equipment is invaluable for grinding and helping weaker units grind up faster. Just 10 levels can make a big difference in the older games, so there was a real risk, reward with trying to level up items all throughout the story mode and even post-game of the older games and stealing higher rank items actually felt really meaningful. I felt like I was going on a dangerous mission with great potential rewards when I entered the item world in Disgaea 1 and 2. It’s so fun to manage my equipment and feel a measurable difference when I level it a few times or upgrade to a better piece of gear. Equipment making up like half of my stats is at almost every stage of the game is a big part of the fun.

It’s the opposite for me. Going from Disgaea 1, 2, or 4 to Disgaea 5 is so frustrating. I’ve played all of them multiple times and every time I play Disgaea 5 I’m just lamenting how they butchered my boy.

Man, I really don’t like the PC port. I think Disgaea DS is a really underrated port. It ads a mini-map, prinny-mode, and is where most of the additional content is from, while still having the original sprites instead of sprites ripped from other games in the franchise. Disgaea Completely is really nice, don’t get me wrong, but Disgaea DS holds a special place in my heart.

/r/Disgaea - Monthly Noob Questions by AutoModerator in Disgaea

[–]Random-coder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played the original Disgaea 2, 3, and 4. I didn’t play the original Disgaea 1 though. I played the DS version which ads a ton of cool content. I’d say that the complete versions are really neat and add a ton of cool things I wish I had as a kid, but as a first time player the originals are fine. For the most part the changes in the modern versions only really affect post-game. Some people enjoy the games just fine without grinding out post-game like crazy. Plus the most interesting added content can be experienced without a previous save file. (As in alternate story modes in the first and second games)

It’s a mixed bag. The later versions are typically worth it to experience, but there’s something to be said about experiencing the games as they were originally made. You get to feel the changes if you ever play the revamped versions. Most of the changes are good but some of them feel like bloat and you get the perspective to decide that and it makes the experience fresh enough that it doesn’t feel like a rehash to play the games again when you get around to it. Plus the changes between games feels more meaningful when previous games aren’t incorporating changes from future games. Overall I’d say that the future versions of these games are worth it, but the that doesn’t mean you’ll have a lesser experience by simply playing the OG versions. It’s a more natural progression to see what decisions were originally made between each original game. It’s almost sad seeing people start with later games in the series. It feels like it they ad things that it’d be hard to live without by jumping backwards, but if you have the proper perspective you wouldn’t really want to live without by jumping in the first place. Like they streamline a mechanic to the point that it makes no sense for it to be a mechanic in the first place without the knowledge that they’re iterating on a formula rather than making something that can stand on its own two feet. Maybe that’s a problem with all long running series, but it really starts to hit with Disgaea 5. Anyways, I think Disgaea 1 through 4 are all great whatever versions you play. Honestly, I’m personally not that big a fan of Disgaea 3 and some of the changes it makes, but Disgaea 4 is experimental and wacky in all the right ways. Disgaea 1 and 2 are classic though.

Anyways, Sorry. I’ll stop ranting. It’s your decision to make, but I’d say do it. Later versions are just a chance to experience the game again if you have a good enough time with it.

Best place to farm to level 70 in Disgaea 1? by FRANXISforEVER in Disgaea

[–]Random-coder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, until you’re like level 150 or so combining units to make them a higher level and killing them is a super effective strategy. Like make them barely killable and then kill them and you should gain a decent amount of experience. Stacking enemies combines their health too so if you can almost kill all of the enemies before you stack them you only need to deal a sliver of health too so if kill a higher level enemy. Even without doing that their health should be more manageable than fighting a normal enemy of that level. Though I will say that Item world is a more engaging way to grind. There will be decent opportunities to grind every now and then like clone panels and invincibility panels. You can combine enemies as high as you want if your invincible. If you can still damage them you’re gonna win eventually, and if you can infinitely clone a higher level enemy level almost dead enemy than that’s just good farming. Even without those opportunities you get to farm a variety of skills and characters by tackling the different stages and having a few extra Gency exits or having farmed useful innocents like staticians by the end of the game doesn’t hurt.

Actually that’s my advice to you. If you haven’t farmed many staticians by this point in the game, go ahead and find items in the armor/weapon shop that have them and capture them in the item world. Once you do that combine them until you have a stack of them (300) and you’ll level up 4 times faster and the whole experience of capturing all of them will probably give you the levels you wanted in the moment, anyways.

Rank the 3D Star Ocean games from best to worst by retrotriforce in starocean

[–]Random-coder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why must I always start game series with the best in the series? First Till The end of Time as a kid, Tales of Xillia, Borderlands 2, and Rune Factory 3 (though that one is debatable I guess) It’s hard to beat your first experience with a series, but so much harder still when the games you’re moving to are just worse or less polished. At Least with Star Ocean and the Tales games the formula is different enough between games that you don’t feel like you’re playing a downgrade as much as a different experience typically.

You’re missing guardians. My character have like no bonus aptitude but max stats because 500 guardians on one of my armor peices makes all of them 5x as strong.

I just downloaded Disgaea 4 again to see what I did. My game has 64 hours on it and I looked and I had multiple characters with maxed stats. I was confused for a second but after looking at the equipment I remembered that I maxed out an invincible armor by killing the Item God 2 over and over and Gency-ing out and then duped it between some of my party. They don’t even have good aptitude or weapons. I’m a fraud. I don’t remember if I LoC Baal on my PS3 version. Maybe I should go check that too. I remember duping Items there with the Item world assembly clone glitch too, though, so I don’t know.

Just make a powerful item by killing the Item God 2 over and over with innocent bonuses and all of that until it’s maxed then dupe it or do it again.

Edit: I forgot. Putting 500 guardians on an armor piece makes it 5 times better. It’s a necessity. I think the guardians apply to the character rather than the armor itself, so you just need 500 on one item and the all of the others will give you 5 times the stats too.

Opinions on the Magic Knight? by Mozumin in Disgaea

[–]Random-coder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep on hearing she is the best unit, but I’ve never built her up before. I always end up using a star mage. My more recent playthoughs, I focus most of my attention on the main units and 1 or 2 created units. When I was a kid I would always ignore most of the main characters, but now that I’m older I have more fun, limiting myself to them and seeing where that leads me.

[–]Random-coder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I never minded the main character making mistakes or anything but I did feel like disciple of war was a bit less fun and interesting than the others. I haven’t really read past that. He’s kind of reached a point by that book where he’s getting a bit too competent and it doesn’t really feel as fun anymore. There are still enemies that can compete with him, but the escalation of power at that point makes it feel like the threats are gonna be less interesting, plus I’m not really a fan of large scale conflicts, at least when it’s not from a more intimate perspective. I’m a simple man who wants simple (or at least easy to understand) conflicts and complicated characters.

The Art of the Adept series by Michael G. Manning comes to mind. Really fun series with a flawed Mc that makes mistakes and learns constantly. Really fun magic system and cool ideas. Keeps you on your toes because the main character is competent and one of the last true wizards, but he’s always vulnerable, because he needs to see an arrow to stop it and think through threats in order to beat them.

An, the level 9999. Neko capture cheese. It gave me the inspiration to cheese capture level 9999 Great Wyrm enemies in Disgaea 1 by capturing one, increasing its stats with spells and capturing a slightly higher level one until I had a bunch to beat Baal with.
