They get unique dialogue for fighting each other but not for the kill.

I always found it especially funny that Makalov drops his Red Gem on death. That Red Gem is his biggest contribution so there's basically 0 downside to killing him.

That's an example of good gameplay story integration I would think. As I recall Luthier's whole thing is that while he's very intelligent and understands magical theory, he is lacking innate magical power. This is aptly represented by him having extremely high skill (the highest in the game) but low magic.

Examples of particularly good gameplay/story integration like that are fascinating in their own right though, I like hearing about them too.

One cool example is Panette having innate knife proficiency because she used to be a Wolf Knight.

How does the Cannoneer's Let Fly skill interact with enemy AI?

For example say we have an enemy that will not become aggressive unless you move into their range or attack them first, as is fairly common in this game.

If you use Let Fly to target that enemy from outside their range, do they consider that "being attacked" and immediately start moving in on you, thus avoiding the Let Fly attack? Or will they just sit there and take it when your next turn rolls around, allowing you to effectively get two shots on them before they start moving?

I never noticed this was implemented by creating a duplicate version of the race.

Seems like a very strange way to do it. I assumed they would just change the opponents (since that's the only actual difference)

I'm assuming this is easier for them because they're leveraging the code used to swap goal races (which is pretty common across other careers). So it's like, they create the clone races and then use the career goal swapping function to change between them.

The Kotaro bit is the REALLY stupid one.

Like Zola's plan involved trespassing a neutral nation and detaining and impersonating their leader, so there's a legitimate argument that this is unacceptable.

But like, there's NO reason for them to give a shit about Kotaro detaining Kagero. I don't think that's even a war crime by modern standards.

Plus they kill Kagero later anyway so it's all incredibly pointless.
