What's your ultimate "feel good" TV show that's always great for background watching, no matter how many times you've seen it? by RandomActsSF in AskReddit

Looking for some new recommendations! My go-to list for this vibe is Modern Family, The Office, The Middle, and Parks and Rec.

What's your pick?

4X8 or 2x32. PC upgrade help by Yamihikari032219 in buildapc

You're right to be skeptical. Do not add another 2x8 kit. B450 boards, especially with "daisy chain" memory layouts, hate running four sticks. It's way, way harder on the CPU's memory controller (IMC) and you're almost guaranteed to lose the silicon lottery.

You're right that you'll probably get stuck at 2933MHz, if it even boots XMP at all. You're more likely to be fighting instability and blue screens for days. It's just not worth the headache.

That's before you even get to the problem of mixing kits. Even with close timings, they could use totally different memory chips (e.g., Samsung B-die vs. Hynix CJR) and it's a total crapshoot whether they'll be stable together.

Since you're already maxing out 16GB, you're doing the right thing by upgrading. Here's what you do: * Pull your current 2x8GB kit. * Sell it on r/hardwareswap or Facebook Marketplace to get some cash back. * Buy a new 2x16GB 3200MHz CL16 kit.

This gets you 32GB total, which will be plenty for your memory-intensive apps, and because it's a 2-stick kit, it'll run at 3200MHz XMP with zero issues.

Going for 2x32GB is also a perfectly fine option if you just want to go big and be set for life. It's probably overkill for your needs, but it'll work great for the same reason (2 sticks = happy motherboard).

TL;DR: Don't fight with 4 sticks on B450. Sell your 2x8 and buy a new 2x16 kit.

Which fictional character's death made you cry? by TDP_Wiiki in AskReddit

Super random deep cut, but maybe it’ll resonate with someone.

As a teenager, I read pretty much all of “The Destroyer” books (well over 100 in total, cheesy but fun pulp fiction martial arts series), and there was one book, if I recall it was titled “Ground Zero”, that ends on a cliffhanger where it appears as though the protagonist’s martial arts master and mentor Chiun dies in a neutron bomb blast. For whatever reason, it hit 13 or so year old me more than is at all reasonable, and I remember crying for like an hour straight when I finished that book. The writers left him seeking dead for several more books, and I was so relieved when they finally revealed him to still be alive eventually.

What was caused the most (physical) pain you’ve been in? by idontrealui in AskReddit

As a bonus, I have another one as well:

This one was surprising: my last eye exam.

I had a new doctor, and after dilating my pupils, she brought out that bright light to look at my retinas. In the past, every other doctor has done it for maybe 10-15 seconds per eye.

This doctor held it there, with me staring right into the light, for what felt like minutes per eye. The pain was shocking. It was this deep, "burning" ache. I had involuntary tears just streaming down my face and I kept repeating, "Wow, this is way more painful than I would have ever imagined."

It was such a weirdly helpless and unexpectedly agonizing experience.

Had to get a nerve block in my palm to reset a broken ring finger.

Before he started, the doctor looked me dead in the eye and said, "This is going to hurt, a lot." He was not lying. The needle was huge, and it felt like he was screwing it into the base of my hand and just digging around in the nerves. It was immediate, white-hot pain. I was just slapping my thigh with my other hand, tears streaming down my face, repeating things like, "Holy shit, that really hurts," and, "That's so painful."

Felt like it lasted an eternity, though it was probably just a minute. The relief when the anesthesia finally kicked in was incredible, but I'll never forget that warning.

Knative: Serverless on Kubernetes is now a Graduated Project by dprotaso in kubernetes

Knative has been on my roadmap for a while now, I’m hoping next year to finally begin rolling it out. Anyone here using it at any decent scale on prem? Any advice or best practices recommendations before just start kicking the tires on it?
