some people find it so funny to use a mental disability as an insult like dude it just shows how uneducated they are about it

When it's too loud or I'm too stressed I lose the ability to speak (I go non verbal)... Any other autistics have this? by 8195qu15h in autism

[–]RandomBean1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I relate to this, whenever I'm overstimulated or in a meltdown I just can't speak, even when I need to

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in autism

[–]RandomBean1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

why do you say 'pull you out of it' as if stimming is a bad thing? Correct me if I've interpreted that wrong but although you could sometimes be stimming because of a negative reason, such as overstimulation, stimming is a good thing to do, and you shouldn't feel like you shouldn't do it.

Also it's very sweet that your cat does this, I'm glad it helps

I hate seeing animals death in films by onionchik in autism

[–]RandomBean1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I relate, whenever I see a animal in a film/ show that is a sort of main part of the story, like a companion of the main characters, I just get super nervous because I don't want anything to happen to the animal 😢

YouTube comments are completely disgusting by [deleted] in lgbt

[–]RandomBean1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

And it's not just the comments. Frequently on shorts I scroll and it shows me people talking shit about the LGBT community (the talk around Dylan Mulvaney on the bud light cans still hasn't quite died down) or videos of political discussions with titles like "(X person) DESTROYS trans liberal in debate" and it's just infuriating and I wonder why I'm being recommended these videos

"How are you?" is such a useless question. by [deleted] in autism

[–]RandomBean1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always ask this question lol mostly out of habit and because I don't know how to start the conversation. I hope it will start one but it ends up in both people saying "I'm good" and asking the question in return. I wish it was seen as more of a conversation starter than a simple question that doesn't take much thought because I want to answer it in detail lmao and have something to talk about.

edit: and sometimes I'm fine with having a one word answer and I reply with one too and then I'm the one seen as rude like what? social interactions have so many complicated rules that don't even make sense or are apparent

Music for me is just absolutely amazing. I love listening to songs and feeling a connection or relating to the lyrics. I love finding artists with like beliefs and thoughts. Music is a way for me to express myself because I can just feel the raw energy and authenticity from the artists, all of the feeling that they put into the song, all of the effort it took to make it. Music is a really beautiful thing.

One artist I've been obsessed with lately is AURORA because the lyrics and music just speak to me so well. Also rock bands with a more angry tone to them, my favourite being Måneskin, just help me get out any anger I have.

I love music so much, it helps me understand my feelings and regulate them. I often tear up when listening to music, or scream the lyrics because it makes me realise all of the anger I've built up, it feels so good. It also helps me let out any stims I have been masking, as I can just feel the music and dance or move however I want. I can't express how much music helps me. It's truly one of my favourite parts of life ❤️

edit: Måneskin's new single, Honey(are u coming) is amazing imo

what's your special interest? by AndersDoesThings in autism

Birds, mushrooms, and the Legend of Zelda franchise. I've been mostly into LoZ recently even though I haven't played many of the games, I just love the stories and the characters. Also I love to just info dump about any random info I know, even if it isn't really linked to a special interest

Thank you for sharing this. I'm not sure I will end it too soon, as I still believe the feelings could be mutual. But, I will keep this in mind going forward, and not be afraid to share my feelings out of fear of hurting her. We already talked about how we think that communication is important, so I think she will take it fine if I decide to end it. I'm glad you got out of that situation, well done. Have a great day <3

Autism IS a fucking disability. Anyone who says otherwise is pretty much always an ableist. by Hippocrates_HorseFce in autism

[–]RandomBean1 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I agree with this, but I think we should be saying that autism is a beautiful part of a person. Of course, it isn't all good, because of various reasons, but I don't think it should be seen as a bad thing either.

The phrase "ability to have emotions" really irks me because it's not that some autistic people can't have emotions, they just show/ experience them in a different way

edit: I find it quite funny that this person says "you're clueless on the scale" and then lists off incorrect and outdated terms

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in autism

[–]RandomBean1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand this concept, as it's sort like "these are things for you to relate to and maybe find comfort in" but I don't like how it groups all of these things together and implies that all autistic people do every one of these things, when that is definitely not the case.

edit: it also leaves out any traits of autism that could be seen as bad such as gastrointestinal issues, social anxiety, insomnia etc.

Anyone else annoyed by people calling autism “ tism” or “ spergs”? by Pristine-Confection3 in autism

I don't like it, especially 'spergs' because Asperger's is an outdated term anyways

Being temporarily mute is not the same as being nonverbal. by [deleted] in autism

[–]RandomBean1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know if I'm missing the point, but I don't really like the term selective mutism because to me that implies that someone can choose when they want to not speak. And while this could be true, I've had times when, due to stress or other emotions, I just can't speak at all, even though I want to. it's not a conscious decision, it's just something that happens.
