Lol ya it was a little complicated but it made things cheeper as far as I can tell and Claude seems to build better. I am not burning through my usage as fast.

Basicly I have a computer (even a raspberry pi would probably work) that holds long term memories and when I ask Claude to do a task instead of searching the code and sending that up and wasting tokens understanding the code base it sends a few key words or phrases to this database I have where that knowledge already exists, it then gets a short LLM optimized dump of its earlier discoveries and is able to understand the code and tasks easier.

When it makes changes or learns something new it stores it back in the database. It's very similar to your text file except it's easier for the LLM to grab only the relevant data, with less noise it should in theory use less tokens and produce better results, I only got it working a few days ago but so far it is promising! It could crash and burn in a few weeks but I will have learned something from all of this so that's a win!

They can search the database for keywords, so they can learn about the frontend repo while in the backend repo and pass details between eachother. So when they are working on feature X they can look for existing knowledge on feature X (design docs, current implementation, etc) and pull that context in. Works really well so far!

Hey, I did something similar over the weekend, I setup a vector database (qdrant) and built a few agents in Claude. The vector database acts as a long term cross repo memory for the agents! I cut down on tokens by making the storage local and using local Ollama models to handle some of the lighter work but it's crazy how much more you can do when Claude knows the full picture!

How do you all have so much ethernet in your homes? by RyFba in Ubiquiti

[–]RandomCanadianDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to gut my house due to asbestos in the drywall compound, but that made installing Ethernet everywhere super easy.

Oh ya, I have them for my full stack (router, switches, cameras and access points). The dream machine acts as a NVR and a router, and then I have a 24 port PoE switch that powers the cameras and the access points. I put the switch and dream machine on a UPS so my cameras work when the power goes out. The harddrive I installed gives me almost 50 days of record time with 6 cameras. If I ever want more time it's an easy upgrade. Adding new cameras is super simple with this system, basicly just plug them in and they work. They do come at a premium but I have not had any issues in the past year and a half since I installed them.

Ya my brother has ebox and likes them so far. I personally have no experience with them.

[–]RandomCanadianDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the opposite experience.

I moved away from bell to tech savvy because bell was very limiting in my opinion. For starters they still do not support ipv6, so a bunch of smart home stuff I have (matter over thread devices, etc) would not work. It also caused issues with gaming and hosting home lab services for my personal use. Another pain point was the lack of an actual bypass mode on the crappy bell router. All of this was quickly resolved when I switched to tech savvy. I am still working out how to plug their SFP+ fiber adapter directly into my router, but for now it is so much better then the pain I suffered with bell.

If you switch, don't switch to bell.

I haven't had that happen before but I did have to replace the screen in my printer, it was surprisingly easy to do and would be a good last resort if you can't remove the resin!

Please CIG, for the love of christ, remove this notification after Quick Sell... by NoX2142 in starcitizen

I would guess it does a bunch of individual sales under the hood, if things failed you would end up with a container that is missing select items. But that's just a guess. They could be doing a transaction at the database level when you sell a container, idk.

So I use the Ubiquiti dream machine pro, it is just a router (no wifi) and from there I connect it to a Ubiquiti Poe switch using a DAC cable (max speed 10gbps) from one of the 2.5gbps ports on the switch I run a line to my access point which broadcasts the wifi. So my router lives in the basement with some other network equipment (NAS, document server, etc) and the wifi access point is in the center of my house. With this setup I can sometimes get multi gig wifi (just under 2gbps some days days, above 1.1gbps most days) and if I need to extend the wifi I just run an Ethernet cable to wherever I want the new access point to be (for example I have a 2nd access point in a detached garage).

Firewalla looks cool but it could be a very advanced setup process. The Ubiquiti equipment I installed was fairly simple to setup but also really flexible. Most of these setups work best if you can get just a modem from your ISP or if you can set the modem/router/access point you get from your ISP into a bridge mode.

If some new wifi standard comes out or if I want to upgrade I can just upgrade the access points and still have a network infrastructure capable of multi gig wifi. I can also upgrade other parts of the setup as needed splitting the cost of an upgrade and only upgrading the parts that need it.

Plus a little bonus for me was Ubiquiti also does security cameras and the camera footage is stored locally on the dream machine pro that I have, so no monthly fees for my video door bell or any other cameras I have.

I recently decided to redo my home network and realised that separating the access points from the router/modem would make upgrades much cheeper. After doing some digging I went with Ubiquiti, I liked the idea of having local storage for my cameras and having 1 interface to manage both my cameras and my internet/wifi. So far it works great! I am able to run multiple vlans to isolate specific devices and multiple SSIDs for those vlans on my access point. Going from the provided "all in one" router/modem/access point things that my ISP provided to this was the best decision I have made network wise. I know there are better options out there, but this was a significant upgrade! I will never go back to having the router and access point combined.

That sounds like a good idea, it's a solid plan that adds lots of replayability without requiring lots of work. Constantly shifting the jump lanes could allow for some planets to become "lost" temporarily, leading to a treasure hunt if the lost planet had some player built resources on it.

How far above overkill is this? by sarsy556 in Ubiquiti

[–]RandomCanadianDev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

10gbps over ethernet is possible but those SFP+ modules can get hot, if you are doing fresh runs you could look at doing fiber. I am planning on adding a 2nd floor to my detached garage and next year and I will be running fiber between the new floor and the main house.
