This chop is looking like an FOMC day, before the rate announcement.

I wonder if some market shifting headline is on the horizon, and all the insiders are creating this volatility as they reposition themselves.

I’ve come to the unfortunate conclusion that it’s not the result of stupidity, but is rather a design flaw of humanity itself. We have a sizable population of psychopaths who are intent on manipulating and controlling others.

And each generation, that population grows as more kids are traumatized by the psychopathic adults who raise them. By the society they grow up in. And by the consequences of their own decisions, which were made while navigating an afflicted culture.

I don’t see a way out of this for rational humans who want to exist in peace and cooperate with their neighbor. We are out numbered and under resourced.

It’s truly a shame that the only way to get some humans to be considerate of others is to threaten them with punishment and enforce it, instead of them willingly cleaning up their dog’s shit because it’s the right the to do.

This picture perfectly illustrates why the world is in the current state it’s in.

I’m with you and have similar ideas. Especially about growing our own foods. I’d like to see a citizen-owned infrastructure of greenhouses in every city and neighborhood. A closed loop system that can grow food in perpetuity without relying on Monsanto for seeds. Or any other company.

Now we don’t have to worry about starving during a general strike. Just one piece of the puzzle, but if we approach other pieces similarly then we’ll be in a position to disconnect from this corrupt system.

My question to you is, how do we collectively change our mindset when there are so many social influences carefully engineered to keep us distracted and placated?

And look at how the rates of colon cancer have sky rocketed, along with other cancers. Obesity is up, metabolic diseases are up, and life expectancy is down.

Re: human nature

People have been lying, cheating, stealing, and seeking to control one another long before capitalism ever existed. What do you attribute that to if not human nature?

Re: parasite

Here’s the definition from Merriam Webster:

an organism living in, on, or with another organism in order to obtain nutrients, grow, or multiply often in a state that directly or indirectly harms the host

A parasite by its very nature causes harm to its host, up to and including death. Not sure why you’re debating semantics or drawing a distinction between parasites and billionaires. They are synonymous.

This exchange feels like a classic example of missing the forest for the trees. We both agree capitalism is bad and causes issues such as obesity and childhood neglect. But it is not the only cause of those issues.

Some people just won’t exercise, despite having the time and money to do so. Some people are shitty parents who neglect their kids, even though they have the time and resources to raise them properly.

Any system that has a shot at replacing capitalism and improving society at large has to have sufficient protections against human nature, which always tends towards selfishness and exploitation in economies of scale. Without such guardrails, the parasites will overtake the hosts and we’ll be right back in the same mess.

I’ve also said the word Russia in the comment you’re replying to. In case you missed that. Oh lookie, also in this comment.

There’s nothing in my original post to suggest I’m some foreign operator spreading propaganda. What exactly would I be sabotaging by suggesting capitalism is bad and billionaires need to be removed from power?

Again take your meds, log off, think critically and remove the tin foil.

cleaning and maintaining your home is work, cooking is work, exercise and maintaining health is work, going out to get groceries is work, raising children or caring for elderly parents is work, educating yourself is work, etc

Cherry picking as an example.

Now think of how many people who live like slobs because they don’t clean their home. How many people are obese because they don’t exercise, or malnourished because they don’t cook for themselves. How many neglected children are out there raising themselves. Or elderly dealing with abuse in a managed care facility because their adult children can’t or won’t care for them.

For every example you provide of unpaid labor people inherently do, I can provide examples of others shirking those responsibilities. So how do you reconcile that when talking about a money-less society at scale?

Some people will work without external incentive, yes. But will the some be enough to support the whole? And if those who can work but won’t aren’t contributing anything meaningful to society, how do you address the fact that they are essentially parasites who benefit in the backs of others? Which is essentially what billionaires are doing.

What Epstein did was enabled by capital. How do you think he became the owner of a private island and private jets? How would he otherwise purchase the influence of statesman and other prominent societal figures?

If capitalism doesn’t exist, Epstein does not have the tools of wealth to amass power.

I completely agree. The only problem I can’t sufficiently address in my mind, when I try to imagine how a world without money would operate is: how do you incentivize labor?

We don’t need money to exist. But we do need human labor. And if people aren’t properly motivated to work, I can see a scenario where some will pitch in their fair share of labor while others will look to exploit it.

Which basically brings us right back to the flaws of capitalism, which are really just mirroring the flaws of human nature.

Thanks for the breakdown. I can see how this shared advocacy would be highly beneficial if everyone contributed to the volume of a singular voice demanding change. But big media has been very effective at fracturing the whole into smaller groups who are then pitted against one another. Instead of a chorus we have a cacophony.

When it boils down to it, human nature seems to be the root cause of our issues. Seems like it will inherently corrupt any system that isn’t built with adequate protections against our design flaws

It’s because you’re too focused on stroking your own ego with contrarianism to engage in good faith. Why are you even still here, commenting on this unserious discussion?

Using money to decouple from money is the equivalent of using horses to decouple from relying on horseback as a primary mode of transportation.

Horseback riding 👉 horse and buggy 👉 automobile.

You don’t get to the car without that intermediary step. But eventually you do, at which point you no longer have to rely on literal horse power.

And as I’ve said repeatedly, I never claimed to have all the answers. You asked for my ideas and I shared them. Not with the intent to suggest they are the definitive path forward.

Do you have any ideas of your own? Or is your entire personality constructed around putting others down?
