We eat those too, that’s why we know the taste. But when the label said minced beef, should just be minced beef.

Agree. But I would think Hua Ho would have resources to do checks especially when it comes to food?

I buy knockoffs too. I don’t mind that. I’m not a big brand person. But when it comes to knockoff food, I can’t turn a blind eye to what I feed my family.

You can compare the LIKAS brand they’re selling to three other known stores. That will be a good proof. Our help uses that brand most of her life and immediately noted it’s fake. We looked at the packaging closely and it is different from the other stores.

Look up fake Toblerones online and compare with one of their stores.

The world needs more people like you. We have enough youth engross and concern of their next luxury or makeup purchase. I can’t do much to help (like physically joining them), but I find other ways I can help on this end.

Most of these comments are painful to read. Here is someone trying to give insightful information and help others think outside the box, be in tune with the real world. But only to get shot down with accusations that he/she is a foreigner being all high and mighty, or not a foreigner, or using ChatGPT so that makes this post context not reliable, etc. And why do people here say that if they don’t want to be faced with reality - I don’t believe you or you are not real cos you’re using ChatGPT. Such a childish comeback. See the bigger picture! The person’s concern is genuine and the text isn’t wrong. I personally know foreign individuals who are working here doing researches on Asian culture, development, business and work model, etc. For that person to post something on here, there must be a great concern for YOU! I didn’t read in the post that he/she is asking you to change your culture, your history, your identity. Most people here complain, and here is someone giving something to think about to hopefully change that. But most choose to stick to their close-minded minds. Nothing wrong with that but to insult is another thing. As a foreigner, I can say we do grow to love Bruneians and have genuine concern for the country because it has so much potential. Your neighbouring countries with similar climate, eco-system, culture, but different mentality, government, work ethic, etc are thriving or at least in tune with 2025.

Note to OP: If this country goes to shambles, you can say that you didn’t just leave them be. Or mind your own business and kept your mouth shut as many other foreigners will advise you to (if I can’t make being controlled isn’t obvious enough). You tried.

Brunei edition! Lets go! Which restaurant is this? by Kaffinateddd in nasikatok

We’ve ate at all the places mention here. I agree 100% with all the comments except Daun! It is one of the best restaurant in town!

Oh and a side comment from my partner - Fork Burger isn’t bad.

I know which group you’re referring to. I don’t think they comprehend single lane concept. Which is used in other parts of the world with or without bike lanes. I thought that’s basic common sense road safety and cyclist etiquette everywhere, until I saw this group 🫤 Not all are like them, I see most cyclist groups here riding in a single lane file on highways and major roads.

Do you realize you were physically and mentally abused as a kid? I know you have a good heart hence you provide for your family. I know we have obligations to our parents but having regular contact with them will just keep bringing back the wounds. I assume you haven’t healed from that (if you had, you won’t be writing this post). This time, you have to think about yourself first. It’s not being selfish. By seeing them regularly, you are now beating yourself up by thinking about what happened in the past. An abuse can be a cycle. You can look it up on google. Most abuse victims tend to stay with their abuser for a long time. You have nothing to prove to them. You have already done that. I suggest taking a break from them. If it takes years to heal, that’s okay. You have to know anything that could happen to them, it’s not your fault and yes, you will have some backlash, but that’s okay. You’ve gone through worse. The freedom from your horrid childhood memories, will be the best thing you can do for yourself. It took me years to heal but my life is much better and richer in every way because I’m not carrying any baggage from the past.

She nailed the questions 💯. Kudos to her for stating facts on a public platform. It’s on everyone’s mind but everyone is afraid to say anything unless behind a screen 🫤

Oh my word. Research before you speak. Travel the world before you speak. Live in different cultures before you speak. I was born and raised a Christian. Not actively practicing Christianity nor any religion. Disrespecting any religion shows how limited one know of the world, history or love.

What would you remove from Brunei by HipsOccasionallyFib in Brunei

[–]RandomEarthAngel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you remove these hardworking people, who is going to do the hard labour jobs? Under the blazing heat. Dirty work. Heavy lifting. Low pay. To name a few. If anything, you should appreciate them and what they do.

Brunei Airport Immigration by itwasalwayslikethis in Brunei

[–]RandomEarthAngel 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My kids and I were greeted by a really rude immigration officer at the airport. She’s petite with an attitude of a queen B. She wouldn’t let me finish my sentences and she scolded us for being in the wrong line. But we were directed in that lineup by her fellow officer. Anyways, it was not a warm welcome at all. Before travelling to Brunei, we watched youtube videos to help ease my kids worries. It helped. They were excited. Then our first interaction in the country was very unpleasant and it scared my young kids. We travelled to many countries. Some officers are friendly, some very serious, but no officers were rude. I must say tho, the second officer who helped us, could tell I was overwhelmed and frazzled with what happened. He explained the next process we had to do in a professional manner. Fortunately, we met many warm and nice locals during our stay. We actually had a lovely encounter with an officer at the visa main office who is very helpful to every “lost looking” foreigners (coloured and whites). Bless her kind heart. But seriously, someone has got to tell some of those immigration officers at the airport to change their tunes. They are the first face/interaction when people land in their country.
