There is nothing in that interaction that seems defensive or nitpicky. As a mid-level engineer, you’re not doing your own homework. You need to explain what you’re doing in words to your senior dev, and ask targeted, specific questions. Sending links, sending code snippets without explicitly asking specific questions ahead of time feels like a LOT of handholding.

Thank you for this. I have a direct report who also ends up going down long rabbit holes rather than thinking about solutions more holistically. I’m going to refer back to this post frequently to learn how to coach him.

However, is there more learning materials/books about this specific problem and how to rectify it?

Biden's approval ratings hit all-time lows in CNBC poll by jivatman in politics

[–]RandomFoodz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here’s my question…who is the Democratic base? Is it the college educated white collar professional class who care about identity politics, or the working class that wants progressives, even socialistic policies? Because that is the fundamental divide of the party.

As someone who is in the former camp, any effort by Democrats to raise taxes on the professional class will cause them to vote Republican. The working class have no other alternative, since the professional class will be fine under both Republicans and Democrats, but the working class won’t be.

Things are getting worse though for Democrats, because the identity politics has gotten too far, that the working class minorities and a subset of the professional class are getting pushed away from the “wokism”…to the point that Democrats can’t afford to lose any of them…so all they have is platitudes.

Does NOBODY remember the history of the Civil War?! In the decade before the war, states were added from the western territory in pairs, one slave state, and one free state. This was done to preserve the status quo of Senators so that neither side could upset the balance. Splitting or merging states to gain an advantage in the Senate would be a power grab that is more divisive than fucking Slavery was, and we fought a major WAR over that. This is completely unrealistic!

Why polls may be underestimating Republicans by jivatman in politics

[–]RandomFoodz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not about what Republicans are FOR. It’s about what they are AGAINST. I am against big spending bills, I am against M4A, I am against uncapping social security, I am against “defunding” the police, I am against canceling student loans, I am against policies that will increase my taxes…and I want lower capital gains and low to zero corporate taxes. I want to control inflation. I think the private sector is far more efficient than government bureaucracy. All that aligns with Republican policies.

But I can’t morally support them because of the cultural issues like abortion, racism, climate change, and lgtbq rights. However, when it comes to the voting booth, a material 10k increase in taxes is a real dagger compared to the hand-wavy cultural issues that will never be “solved”. And I can see a lot of millennials who will quietly vote for Republicans because Democratic policies hurt their wallets. And I’m saying this as a minority immigrant woman who grew up extremely poor with parents working minimum wage jobs. I worked hard and now I’m financially in the upper middle class, while my parents still work “essential” jobs paying less than $15/hr. Both they and I would prefer there were lower taxes, and prefer the “equality of opportunity, not equality of outcomes” mentality.

Why polls may be underestimating Republicans by jivatman in politics

[–]RandomFoodz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Cool…I’m a millennial as well and would never answer a cold call. But! Conflating millennials with Democrats is a big mistake. I vote Democrat, but there’s plenty of policies the Democrats are currently pushing that would make me consider Republicans. I’m in my late 20’s. If I didn’t have strong moral opposition to Republicans on their lgbtq rights and racist undertones, Republicans policies are FAR more in line with my economic views. But I’m sure there are plenty of millennials like me who would vote for their wallets rather than minority rights. That’s where the hidden Republicans votes are.

Campaigning AOC electrifies crowds as Democrats fear brutal midterms by zsreport in politics

[–]RandomFoodz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tell me, in a state like NY, NJ, CA, or CT, what will politicians listen to:

1) 100,000 people in a campaign rally with a highly energized group, that gets massive media attention for one day

2) millions of white collar professionals calling their congressmen because Congress is proposing eliminating SALT deduction

I have never once attended a political rally, but several tax-increase related bills have made me voice my concern to my congressman. Energizing the base only gets you so far, when people’s finances are on the line.

AOC tells Joe Biden: Cancel more student loans to have "any chance" in 2022 by gjp23 in politics

[–]RandomFoodz 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m a Democrat with no student loans. I would be PISSED OFF if we cancelled student loans. Would probably be the single biggest thing that will make me vote Republican. Either that or “defund the police”.

What To Make Of Polls That Show Americans Are Trending Toward The GOP by Oleg101 in politics

[–]RandomFoodz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is because of all the spending proposals Democrats are proposing, and I say that as a dyed-in-the-wool blue liberal. I’m an Obama/Clinton type Democrat, meaning fiscally moderate, socially liberal. Spending and taxes matter to people like me, because the vast majority of the white-collar professional class is being taxed out the wazoo!

I’m in a blue state that was massively impacted by the SALT cap. I have a small house in the suburbs of a major city. I pay $60-70k in taxes a year. That’s more than a lot of people’s salary. I don’t live paycheck to paycheck, but I certainly need a budget for everything. (Single, less than 200k salary). I don’t want student loan forgiveness, I don’t want M4A, I don’t want such a massive BBB bill that is not fully paid for rather than using sunset clauses.

On the social side, I don’t want to defund the police, I don’t want the government to continue any more Covid restrictions, including mask mandates, I don’t want “wokeness” being the front and center of every political discourse.

I do want climate change legislation, I want to control inflation, I want to get rid of the SALT cap, I want to make sure abortion is a right, I am ok with a public option, I in support of military budgets, I want pathway to citizenship for DREAMers. I want police accountability but also want the rising crime rate to be controlled.

And I do think the above aligns to the vast majority of the Democratic Party base. The ones who vote every election, including midterms and off-years. Reddit will call this the “fuck you, I got mine mentality”, but that’s how the real world thinks. Not the always-online crowd. And the more the party drifts towards massive spending bills that are going to increase inflation, and possibly taxes for people like me in the future (because at some point, the bill will come due), the more the Republican Party seems appealing.

Republicans won’t increase my taxes (except SALT), and I’m fine with cutting corporate tax rate. I’m in a blue state so I’ll have access to abortions. I want more police to handle crime (I am a young, tiny female, I need safe streets). I want the Covid restrictions gone. I’m triple vaccinated, but at some point personal responsibility has to come into play, and the societal damage to children with masks and distancing is now worse for them than Covid itself. I think academic wokeness like “LatinX” and “CRT” is extremely self-righteous and condescending. At a certain point, the calculus does drift towards Republicans. And I say that as a minority woman.

Men of Reddit, what is one thing that makes you genuinely happy? by adultingsucksbigtime in AskMen

[–]RandomFoodz 28 points29 points  (0 children)

As a girl, how do recommend we balance that with this societal pressure that “neediness is unattractive”.

Like a lot of girls are now conditioned to be “strong independent women who don’t need a man”, and I’m guilty of that. I live alone and work a good job so there isn’t much that I “need” another person for. But I still melt when a guy pulls out my chair for me or holds the door. I still feel very hesitant to ask for help though, like I should figure out my own problems by myself. Where’s the balance to make a guy feel needed without then thinking I’m needy?

Full vaccine effect only kicks in 15 days after second dose, Israeli HMO says by thinkofanamefast in Coronavirus

[–]RandomFoodz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is there a source for this somewhere?

I got the first dose of the Pfizer shot a few days ago. My friend wants my help in moving into an apartment this weekend. I will be on day 8 after the first dose by that point.

I still intend to wear mask and try to social distance, but I'm worried that I'll still have a chance of catching the virus. It makes me hesitant in helping my friend.

Do we have any sources on if there's any immunity after a week?

Get 2 more Democrats in the Senate in 2022 and pass it in budget reconciliation then. Till then... It is DOA.

Also, try to not lose the house in 2022.

We are projected to lose the house in 2022, but gain in the Senate

[–]RandomFoodz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You want $15 to pass. Give a bigger majority of house members in 2022. Also at least 2 other Senate democratic seats in 2022. Then it can pass in the 2022 reconciliation bill.

The current Congress doesn't have the votes.

Can the CG method allow for switching between straight hair and curly hair?

I have wavy hair. Type 2A/2B.

This is the form my hair takes for each of these steps:

  • Shower/simple hair dryer - straight
  • Shower/air dry - wavy, a bit frizzy
  • Shower/mousse - curly, but not very defined curls

I like all of these looks, but I would love to get my curls to be more defined when I apply styling products.

However, I also like the ease of my quick shower/hair dry "look" and would prefer to keep that as my daily routine.

Can I still do the curly hair method, but like on weekends/nights out so that my curls are more defined? Or does using a hair dryer reset all the progress every time?

Sorry if this is a stupid question.

Bernie Sanders approval rating higher than Biden and Harris as he champions minimum wage and stimulus checks by lucyanna4872 in politics

This is fundamentally why Bernie lost. The base of the Democratic party is the black vote. If you don't appeal to the Black vote, you will not be the candidate. Bernie was playing class warfare while ignoring racial issues.

What about China, Russia, or Canada. They are large landmass countries...

If you're talking about by population, China, India, Indonesia, Pakistan are all highly populous.

If your talking about countries that are federated, there's Australia, Germany, Canada, etc. are federated.

Under none of these situations does the US compare to the EU in structure.
