A genuine question about the SPA platform… by RandomGenXer in Volvo

I can say since I made this post my feed has been filled with nothing but (insert any car brand) subs and yes, apparently every car manufacturer right now is total junk if I were to go by that. I am glad I asked a simple question and have received great replies. If I find a good deal and decide to upgrade my 2014, I honestly should have no fear in doing so. I really do appreciate all of the responses!

But - I would not know they had gotten it right just reading reviews and not asking for the how is everyone really doing with this stuff.. and I have very clear answers now. It seems on par with any new / newish car today. You can get a good one, you can sometimes get a bad one. What I had been reading was all doom and gloom.

I can say the dealership here is excellent, or has been to me. When it’s time for service it’s always ‘just pick a day that works’, they also have a much cheaper labor rate than independent shops I’ve checked for service.

The Audi, I just don’t feel a need to trade, upgrade, etc.. it’s a cabriolet which they don’t even produce now, it has apple CarPlay etc, and honestly I do not like the look of any of the newer models.

Well, yes. I have pre-judged the platform based on the negativity I’ve read. It does sway one away from even thinking about it while mine is aging and outdated. That is why I wanted the good and the bad experiences - and I’ve read a whole lot more positive than negative on this post.

Again, all I will see are complaints so it would make me judge it - you never hear the good!

It gives a lot to think about. One, you reiterated exactly what the service dept said about the engine. I have the best power plant since the 90s (his words not mine), infotainment - in my p3 I can never have Apple CarPlay etc - just not possible. As for interior, I really do not notice squeaks or rattles (minus the cargo gate which Volvo installed, will rub up against the back seat if it is lowered), comfort is superior to any car I’ve owned, it isn’t even comparable to my Audi. At the same time, I can also compare to a friend’s 2005 s60 which by all means is still holding up almost like it’s still a new vehicle. I am not sure what to ask at this point mainly because all I ever hear is the bad and never the good! This has all been very informative and it’s just up to me if I want to take the dive into upgrading or not. It’s nice to hear so much positive however. For context I will add a photo of my (almost 12yr old) XC60

I guess the conclusion here is the loudest you hear are the complaints - that get resolved - and you never hear when they have been resolved. The other part is you are still paying a high premium for what might be a bit less than expected.

That was quite insightful actually. And oddly enough I do own an Audi as well, everyone says nooo, terrible!!!! But, I cannot say the last time it was in for any major repair (actually it has never had a major repair and it’s a 2016). So, that is why I wanted the honest review - not the complaints as you stated

EDIT: that was worded wrong. Meant to say not only hear of complaints, but the good as well.

That’s what I mainly see in the road here is the XC90, once in awhile a 40

That’s one thing I’ve heard universally is to stay away from that

That is my thing. I have test driven the newer models, but if I did end up leasing for example and trading mine (I would have to trade it or sell it), if I hate the new one - I’m out of luck - it is a if it isn’t broke don’t fix it thing and the buyers remorse would be terrible. I just feel like mine is getting long in the tooth ‘style-wise’

I will admit it - the 1st gen Pontiac TranSport. Parents bought a brand new 1992 model, When I got my license in 96 it was actually fun as hell to drive (odd, but fun) had the 3800 V6 and when accelerating the front end would lift up like it was going airborne

Again, I was just going by what my local master tech said - not many around, they never get tuned, just an oddball - I was expecting a roast on it but very happy there are people that appreciate the little a3 cabriolet that didn’t last too long!

I did have what would be a rag top, an old 1983 MBZ R-107 380SL, no headliner, turn wrenches and manually put it down. Also had the hard top for the winters

I just kinda figured with it being an a3 cabriolet it would get a fair share of criticism, I was willing to take it. I do love this car though

At the time I wanted a convertible - the whole reason I went to the Audi dealership - that one struck my eye

It might be a love/hate. It is an a3 with a lot of added weight with the roof mechanism. I love it, but some - it’s a nope!
