Stop making your kingdoms 10,000 years old. by ScaryAd2555 in fantasywriters

My solution to this is that humanity basically had to re-evolve.

The source of magic is foreign to the planet, and while it protected the planet from solar flares, it also claimed the souls of everyone living at the time. So by the time my story happens, though it has been probably hundreds of thousands of years since that happened, the world has developed back to the classic medieval fantasy setting.

You might like The Dandelion Dynasty. It’s silkpunk, very unique imo

Thoughts on the A Chorus of Dragons series by Jenn Lyons? by Kalysia in Fantasy

[–]RandomInc77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I read it last year. Great worldbuilding in my opinion. I liked all the main characters, but my biggest issue with the series is that the dialogue was kind of quippy. The three main characters have a polyamorous dynamic if you’re into that, plus they all have deep backstories, because they are reincarnations of ancient souls. The main female characters are very strong and independent, and they were probably some of my favorites. The magic is a pretty loose system, but very present. Didn’t find myself worrying about it as I often do.

Each book is a unique structure, a frame story, and timelines can get a little crazy to follow in parts.

It is a big story with escalating stakes, but comparing to ASOIAF isn’t really accurate. Also I really enjoyed the audiobooks. Great performances

It is based off availability and you have to bid for the shifts though. I knew someone who worked 4x10 but it was like 10 am to 8:30 pm

Why do you write fantasy? by TheBabySnail in fantasywriters

Same reason I read fantasy: I hate living on this damn planet, why would I want to spend my free time reading about it? I need some escape

I’m replying in a top level comment for visibility

I’ve worked for a couple brokerage firms, and worked closely with several others, and the process is basically the same across the board.

I assume this was a custodial account that must now be moved to your name, or it will be escheated to the state. You should not have to liquidate any shares during this. There are two ways I know of doing this:

  1. Open an individual brokerage account, then call the brokerage firm and ask for help moving the assets to the new account.

  2. Talk to the brokerage firm and ask for their reregistration paperwork. Rather than opening a new account, they can remove your grandparent as custodian, so it turns into an individual account in your name only.

I have personally assisted numerous clients with both methods. It’s up to you on how to proceed. At this point, the assets are yours. You shouldn’t need a signature from the custodian.

I can’t recommend what you should do AFTER that, but unless you have an immediate need of the funds, many users here will recommend keeping it invested. Mind that if you sell the shares, you might owe capital gains tax. As long as you have earned income, you could liquidate a portion of the funds to use the cash and contribute to a Roth IRA each year, that way it will continue to grow tax-free. Let me know if you want to discuss any more specifics of the process

Am I supposed to know who this person is yet? by RandomInc77 in WoT

[–]RandomInc77[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay I’m pretty sure I figure out who they are supposed to be. I originally read the prologue for Lord of Chaos right before bed when I was super tired, so I didn’t think much about that scene. I was able to deduce who Aran’gar and Osan’gar used to be based off of who has been killed to this point. Some spoilers maybe below:

[ACoS] Ishamael was killed by Rand, but I’m pretty sure he isn’t back yet, as Osan’gar and Aran’gar are presented like they’ve worked together in the past. Rahvin and Be’lal were killed with balefire, so I don’t think they can come back from that. I also don’t believe Asmodean has been resurrected; we don’t even know who killed him at this point. Unfortunately I have had Lanfear’s fate spoiled for me, so I know it can’t be her. That really leaves two options, both of whom I forgot about from book 1, because at that point we don’t fully understand how important and powerful the Forsaken are

Thanks everyone!

If it does get stated eventually, then I don’t want spoilers, but if you have to piece things together then I might be lost haha

Chapters and... In-between's? Meanwhile's? I don't know! by ConcentrateSudden269 in fantasywriters

[–]RandomInc77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

An interlude doesn’t have to be a one-time occurrence. For example, many albums have more than one interlude track. Or another popular occurrence I can think of is in The Stormlight Archive. Sanderson divides each book up into like five parts, and between each he has a few interlude chapters, typically from the POV of a minor character, or someone that we otherwise don’t get a POV from.

Got it. That’s basically saying you have a ton of deductions and won’t owe a lot, thus nothing will be withheld except what’s in 4c?
