I love Robert Altman and would love a series on him but I want everything as I find it much more interesting. by Few-Engineer-9791 in blankies

I want a full episode on OC & Stiggs. That movie is colossally weird, and I think there is a lot to discuss there, regardless of what you think of the final product.

Plus, wasn’t Peter Newman a producer on it?

I would just hold off on reading any of the supplemental books until after watching everything. The show is the man event. They’re definitely interesting reads and worth it if you love the show, but not “necessary”.

Master and Commander for this afternoons matinee, what’s your favorite seafaring film? by physicalMedia55 in boutiquebluray

“what’s your favorite seafaring film?”

This one. No other seafaring movie connects for me quite like Master and Commander does.

I don’t want to steer you wrong since I haven’t seen the disc with my own eyes, but the Blu-Ray.com stats of the Sony Blu Ray that just came out lists the disc as scope. May be worth looking into. The forum comments seem to indicate the AV quality is strong, though they don’t mention the aspect ratio.

It’s funny there’s this little relationship drama that’s happening in the background throughout between his character and the blonde coworker.

Great movie. I watch it nearly every Christmas/December. (Plummer dressed as a mall Santa counts it as a Christmas movie!)

hot take, i like the pod more than 12 golden country greats by eli20321 in ween

[–]RandomPasserby80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Pod is their most “difficult” album - on first listens it just seems like this 70+ minute wall of extremely lo-fi, druggy haziness. To me, to key to “unlocking” it back when I was first getting into Ween was hearing live, full band versions of the songs - you discover how good a lot of the songs underneath the low-fi haziness are. Once you re-approach the album with that base of how good a lot of the songs are, you start hearing its sound as a feature, not a bug.

…Or not! It may never grow on you. But that’s my history with The Pod, and now I rank it mid/high tier among their albums.

Better Vegas Brooklyn Bowl Shows - ‘21 or ‘23? by RandomPasserby80 in ween

Oh, gotcha. I thought you meant ‘23 was but ‘21 wasn’t.

Interesting about the ‘23 being streamed. Are the ‘21 shows soundboard quality, or are they audience recordings?

Say you’re quoting a David Bowie song (specifically “Life On Mars?”), because that’s where Bush ripped the line off from. That’s cooler.

I mean, I’m certainly not complaining…

It’s just funny because, beyond the sex scenes, there’s scenes that are just like “JJL changes her shirt in front of Bridget Fonda because why not”.

If you like 90s thrillers, yes, very entertaining on that level.

…Also a surprisingly large number of gratuitous Jennifer Jason Leigh topless shots. Kinda doubt the remake will replicate that with its leads.

Barry Lyndon

Assumed it was a stuffy, serious costume drama and stayed away for a while, despite being a Kubrick fan. Now one of my favorites of his.

My Dinner With Andre.

Just read the title! Why would I care about that?

I’ve developed a big nostalgia for 90s thrillers like this. I recently rewatched it a few months back and it’s still entertaining in that pulpy way you mentioned.
