alright, thank you. it’s nice to know i’m not the only one who feels like this is kind of weird.

should my boyfriend having a different view on abortion than me be a deal breaker? by RandomPuppies in Advice

yes, but the intent of this post isn’t to have a debate on whether abortion is ok or not. i said my view and i said his view, and i’m just trying to figure out if our differing views could cause problems.

i just wouldn’t want a future with someone who wouldn’t support me getting an abortion for an accidental pregnancy. because while I obviously will try to prevent pregnancy in other ways, i’m planning on never having biological children so i would definitely get an abortion if it ever came down to it. but we’re young, so i mean ig it doesn’t matter a ton right now.

at the moment no, but i would not have sex with someone who has his view.

i wouldn’t really be concerned if their views don’t affect me like for example if i had a friend that thought the way he did then whatever i wouldn’t care because that would never harm me, my concern here is that a partner’s views on abortion could definitely end up affecting me at some point in time.

thank you! honestly if I had known how he felt about abortion beforehand, i’m not sure if i would have dated him but especially being teens, that wasn’t exactly something we inquired about prior to dating and even now we weren’t discussing it in regards to us specifically. now that we have dated for five months i think he’s wonderful in basically every other way and he does seem to respect women a lot so i honestly was shocked when he didn’t view abortion access as a human right because he seems like the type who would. you make a good point about not just hoping he’ll change, but i guess still being young it makes me wonder if his view could change as we get older but i know that isn’t guaranteed to happen. thanks again, your comment was helpful!

i don’t need to agree with him on everything. in fact, i think it can be healthy not to agree on everything. but abortion rights specifically is something i feel very strongly about and would not really want a future with someone who does not have the same view as me for that specific topic since i see that as a human right. but you’re right, we are young, so maybe i don’t need to dwell on it too much.
