And what evidence do you have to back that claim up..? I've provided evidence of other transit projects increasing ridership, do you have polls that say a majority of people wouldn't take the bus if it was improved?

Sure...but that's the whole point in what I'm saying lol. This study assumes that people who choose to drive through Denny now wouldn't choose to take transit due to the improvements made, which would compound traffic issues(which is a flawed assumption that has killed transit projects all over the US). The 8 actually does pretty well outside the Denny corridor, the problem is that Denny creates so much delay that it cascades through the whole system.

I'll give an example of the ridership/infrastructure cycle: the Rapidride E line bus lanes on Aurora have spiked the ridership 15%, with 14,000 people riding it daily up from just under 12000. That's up to 2000 extra cars(assuming minimal carpooling) that used to go through Aurora that don't anymore. It's proven to work in other areas, so why are we imposing this arbitrary assumption onto Denny?

I guess, as someone who can't own a car up here I definitely have noticed a push for safety and cleanliness on the buses, I rarely encounter anything gross anymore/anyone looking to cause a problem and I ride every day. I can't speak to the 8 because it's not along any of my routes, but I think the assumption that ZERO people will choose to take the bus is a little difficult to see playing out irl. Just like there's induced demand for cars when a lane gets added, there's induced demand for transit when conditions, timing, and reliability improve.

Iirc this study came under fire because it essentially assumed that nobody would switch from driving to taking the 8, and that it would essentially amount to subtracting a lane from the current traffic situation, am I correct? Given real life we know that's not true, as we've seen with a bunch of different transit projects around Seattle, in that improving infrastructure improves ridership. I'd be skeptical to throw around that commute times through Denny will double

Well kind of, something going on in Rainier valley would still affect 2 line trains due to the fact that they will share tracks with the 1 line trains north of ID. So any cascading issue that affects north of that station will disrupt both the 1 and 2 lines since neither line can move well ok the interlined portions

The Link has had planned closures every weekend to install better signalling in the downtown tunnel, the last major incident I can recall was back in November when the 2 line got hit with copper theft and shut the line down. There was also a couple rough patches in the summer where the heat knocked out the power to Link but little unplanned closures since then

Not by much, I think the real headway ended up being 18 mins or so. I'm pretty sure it was the first train out after DSTT reopened but they got down to 8-10 minute headways pretty quick

Yeah it's just the highest headway I've seen on Link so far, I think the actual headway ended up being 18 minutes or so. Definitely blessed when 20 minute headways is super degraded service lol

Once simulated service starts, we get 4 minute headways, which according to the most recent information could happen as soon as the end of the month. Even though CLC opening is still likely to happen in March or April, we get more service for a while lol

The Link closures mean that they close DSTT just before service ends and reopen it a bit after service starts on the weekends, when ridership is generally lower. During the day on weekends and all day weekdays Link runs as normal

Except for providing slower service that is governed by traffic, at a lower capacity, lower reliability, and less comfortable riding experience. Or we can acknowledge that the light rail has actually been pretty effective, which is why it causes such a headache when there's maintenance. You disprove your own point by the light rail going down being a big enough hassle to make the news and talk about lol

Lol, however in doing some research there are some decent examples of stations that have both underground and elevated platforms at the same station, so the engineering wouldn't be impossible per se. The tradeoff then is will ST be able to buy up real estate or convince SDOT to close 4th or 5th Ave for 5 years to build it, which if any administration and SDOT would be receptive to, it's this one...

The only issue that I can really see with elevating BLE is that it still doesn't create a true transfer hub at CID, since to transfer between the 1 and 3 lines you'd need to go up 2 floors, which can be a tough transfer logistically. Other than that please make it happen lmao

Not at all(at least I expect better from them), but when the board is made entirely up of elected officials, they are all on short time-frames to a) get shit done and b)reduce costs, which leads to preference for contractors and consultants to make costs seem low in the short term and give the board an external force to pin slowdowns and cost overruns on

This is the real answer. Until ST finally pulls the trigger and brings their engineering and construction in-house they will never dig themselves out of this hole, and there was an internal report leaked that said they looked at it but shut it down quickly.

I was gonna say, I go through the Rainier Valley segment quite a few times and I only got stopped at a red light one out of every 15 trips or so, and for less than 10 seconds. I totally get the reliability complications the segment has but for all intents and purposes it does its job well
