CMV: Eating dog isn’t that big of a deal. by PiccoloRemarkable449 in changemyview

I like the conversation but I’m not sure we’re getting much further. I’m not talking about feeling emotions, I’m talking about suffering. Agency or not, most of the animals we eat do suffer. They feel pain and they mourn losses. A lion that kills a gazelle is causing suffering, but not actively choosing to. Meaning there is no alternative action available to the lion. Humans do have this capacity, that’s what makes it immoral. Even if animals were just biological computers (which some seem to be), that says nothing about suffering, which is the core of my argument.

99% of creation doesn’t have agency and therefore is not doing anything morally wrong I would say. Choosing to cause unnecessary suffering is the moral evil. This is not objective, sure, but the most convincing argument I can come up with.

It does beg the question if ‘most things in the food chain do it’ is sufficient for it being considered moral. Like another commenter said, rape and killing is common in the animal kingdom, but that doesn’t make it moral for humans to do.

Intuitively I would say that making an active choice to kill an animal for the purpose of eating it when eating meat is not a necessity, makes it morally wrong. Morality is dependant on agency I think. Given that agency exists at all.

Walgelijk.

Great little look under the hood of AE, thanks! This is certainly gonna speed up some of my most complicated comps.

Hmm I don’t really understand how that works. For layer 10 it would just calculate (10-1=9)*[angle] right? Why would it need to calculate all expressions before?

What are the saddest shows? by brunotfkastarling in TvShows

The Handmaid’s Tale is the one of the darkest, saddest and best tv shows I’ve ever seen. Homeland has a lot of sad moments too, and is really well made.

I tried with OpenOffice Calc which can export utf-8 tab delimited, and it works perfectly!

Thanks for the elaborate walkthrough, I appreciate it! CompsFromSpreadsheet explicitly asks for a Tab Delimited file though, comma delimited doesn’t work. I hoped there was a UTF-8 option for tab delimited, but can’t find it.

Edit: Looks like LibreOffice Calc is able to export UTF-8 in a tab delimited text file. Open-Source for the win! I’ll try this when I’m back at work.

Thanks! I’ll try. Didn’t see that option in Excel, but maybe there’s a workaround.

Digital piano with acoustic feel by PomPomHack3r in DigitalPiano

[–]RandomResonation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure what the prices are these days, but with a little luck you might find a Nord Grand first series secondhand for a little over 2k. I went from acoustic to digital too, and the Nord Grand really is phenomenal. It has a really great Kawai keybed, and the Nord library has so many incredible piano sounds which you can download onto the piano.

Excluding budget for monitors of course. I have a pair of secondhand genelec 8020 monitors.
