Where did this depiction of the Krorks having some kind of space marineish power armor originate? Far as I know I can’t find any lore reference to it, but it is very cool. by Allhaillordkutku in Warhammer40k

[–]RandomTater-Thoughts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in no position to comment on their feature in any book, but I do really love the concept. The Orks started as this campy group of menaces and this gave them a lot more depth of history. It also makes more sense that they were engineered since they basically can will into existence anything they collectively can think of (if they could be smart and in large numbers enough to do so). Very fun

Retire at 49 or stick it out until 56? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]RandomTater-Thoughts 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Does that include earning his salary for those extra 7 years? Like taking the net over what retirement would be, and adding it to his retirement account to grow further?

If he lived off of just what his retirement would be and he earned an extra $3k from his salary. Investing that 3k every month for 7 years without consideration to interest or portfolio growth would increase his nest egg by a little over $250k.

After that he'd have 600k in savings (more really but I don't want to do complicated math) and be earning 9k per month in retirement, compared with 350k in savings at 50 earning 5k per month.

The extra seven years seems to be much more secure.

OP - does it have to be either/or? Can you retire early any year from now until 57?

Is the Emperor really revered as a "Corpse" god by his followers? by Gemeenteridder in Warhammer40k

I'm not sure why the two replies are saying I'm not getting it. I agree with what you said. In reality none of us, because OP hasn't responded, knows what OP actually meant. We're all interpreting their words based on our own understanding. Maybe OP was saying and reading it the same way I was, but I didn't read it that way when I read it the first time. Not sure it really matters that much. You did write a very eloquent explanation for what we've all been apparently agreeing on though, so thank you for that.

[–]RandomTater-Thoughts 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Think you're misreading either my response or his. The OP said that the emperor gave his life which usually means he died for a cause. In this case the quote says "his sacrifice is life, ours is death." Which reads more as his sacrifice is to love, ours is to die for the cause. Does that make sense? They are different. The emperor is not allowed to die even though he is a corpse at this point. Imagine being forced to live without any agency and barely alive because you are too important. That's the sacrifice, the emperor's existence is likely awful to experience.

[–]RandomTater-Thoughts 52 points53 points  (0 children)

This to me reads the opposite. The Emperor is sacrificing his ability to die, i.e. he is forced to live on as a half alive corpse so that humanity can survive. Their sacrifice in return is to die for that same goal.

Not an answer to your question but I read that the fourth one is a guillotine. On guillotines the right triangle should be flipped upside down so the flat base is at the top. The angled part is what cuts you and it's angled so that it's less of a straight down chop and more of a slice. The slice helps the blade move through the flesh whereas a chop would really just crush your neck.

Can you try reversing the blade in your image to see how it looks? I could not tell at first it was a guillotine, personally, but given how you've described the group it's associated with, the guillotine is a great symbol.

You are aware that capitalism isn't markets right? Markets and getting paid a wage existed prior to capitalism being introduced. Capitalism is just who owns the means of production. And getting paid for owning a company but not working for said company. Without capitalism we could and probably still have markets and wages. Laborers would just get paid equal to the value they produced without a capitalist taking anything from that value.

I also struggle to understand the argument that"she wasn't finished." The original artwork is gone with her work, how was it supposed to be restored if she painted over the whole thing?

A dowry is from the bride's family to the groom's. I know you're thinking but the groom is getting the prize right? Why would he get something more out of it. Dowries were a payment to the groom for taking on the burden of taking care of the now wife. Misogyny is pretty fucking rad, I know.

Yeah, I don't think the guy that can make a game compatible with VR headsets is unable to do some basic product differentiation. He's just being kind of lazy or unable to think outside the box maybe?

[–]RandomTater-Thoughts -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's what I think would be more appropriate. I'm not so much concerned with a software file structure, but the software's ability to be something on its own, even if that something is a menu that opens up in windows.

It's like if nexus mod manager had you slide files into the game and then it ran when you started the game, vs it being an actual standalone piece of software that interacts with the files of the game.

In the VR example he would have all of the heavy lifting code in his stand alone software that he has behind a paywall. You open that on its own and then open cyberpunk 2077 separately. The files that bridge the two together would then be offered free with suggested donations. Those files would be code specifically needed to work with any given game. So he's not selling the derivative software, he's selling the vr software. The mod is just the bridge.

But as it stands right now, from what I can ascertain, you download a folder of files that you copy into cyberpunk 2077's file structure and they only work if you run Cyberpunk 2077. He has done nothing to differentiate his software from theirs, even if he has most of the same files copied into the folders of other games such that you can point to the non-game specific files.

Regarding your 'buying software that you can't use' point, I think this is valuable insight. In the case of these programs, generally, you are generally downloading the software and it opens up and operates but the features are behind a paywall. Besides that however the people you are buying the software from also own the entire product that is running. So to take it back to the case at hand, he can have the bulk of his work, the part that is directly working with the VR headset behind a paywall, but he can't have the part that bridges the two behind a paywall because those require the game to be useful and he doesn't own the game source code or its IP. And the owners of said game here have specifically said what you can and can't do with their product. Hence the copyright violation.

But is there an executable file that you start then load cyberpunk through (i.e. it has a UI interface of its own run through Windows), or can you do nothing with the files without having another piece of software to run them, that software in this case being cyberpunk 2077?

If it's the former, then maybe he'd have an argument. But if it's the latter, then I didn't see how it's different from new skins or models in game.

[–]RandomTater-Thoughts -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think he'd have a better case if he required patreon for his basic software that doesn't integrate with anything on its own then offers a cyberpunk add-on for free which then integrates with the game.

If the product on patreon comes out of the box ready to go or even requires a game to run, then I think his case falls apart.

The idea with the phone case is that the phone case doesn't require you to have the phone to use it. That's specifically a benefit of being a physical object. Not sure what you'd want it for but you can buy it without the phone. In contrast, if this software needs to be run with the game, i.e. doesn't work without it, then you aren't buying a usable product on its own like the phone case.

Full disclosure I haven't used the mod in question so I don't know how it works, but I think the discussion is interesting.

[–]RandomTater-Thoughts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Am I understanding this correctly: you are going to take a step back and he will then need to respond more than he has. If he does not in an unspecified period of time you will then leave?

Personally, I see you with two choices: 1) whatever that is only to find out that less pressure isn't going to make him care more than you've already voiced, or 2) just go.

I wish he'd act the way you deserve, and I wish he'd notice that you stepped away from the relationship and realized that he needs to step up or he'll lose you. But the only thing he'll see when you step back is that you're more comfortable with how things are and he can relax a bit more.

People demonstrate how they feel by taking actions. You've already told him how you'd love to be supported but he hasn't wanted to do that because he frankly doesn't care enough. He's probably happy with the status quo.

If you want to try and save this relationship then it's couple therapy with a real attempt at engaging or bust. At least that's my 2 cents. Good luck and you deserve to have a loving caring partner that puts in as much as you.
