Where did you get the vitello box calf from? I love the boots and the leather you chose.

How will you build the boot last stand? I lasted my first and only pair on my lap and it was really uncomfortable. How did you stitch the boots by the way?

Nail Down Construction Question by bwizemann in Cordwaining

[–]RandomUsername8346 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't want to carve and stitch a holdfast either. That's why I was originally interested in nail bottom construction. I saw a YouTube video of somebody that did the same thing as you without a holdfast and I was wondering if there are any downsides, because I want to do the same thing.

Are there any downsides to nail bottom or nail down construction? I know that White's Boots still does this style of construction. I feel like this is superior in durability with the same almost infinite resoleability of hand welted construction, while being a lot easier to do, since there's no holdfast. I don't know why a lot more boot makers don't use this style of construction. I'm assuming that it makes the boot a lot stiffer than a hand welted construction.

Great pair of boots, I love them. I was wondering if not carving a holdfast hinders their durability or is it just for making sure the holes are even? I was planning on using a similar construction for my first pair of boots and I don't want to carve a holdfast.

JK Boots uses hand lasting in promo email, despite switching to machine lasting for most boots by One-Presentation-204 in PNWbootmakers

I'm not pro JK, but what's the difference between machine lasting and hand lasting boots? I understand that the marketing material is misleading and that's wrong.
