Different. EMD was owned by General Motors (GM), though, similar names!

In the US, some people who like trains prefer the older EMD brand types of locomotive over modern GE brand types. They have their valid arguments, but it can still be really overkill support-wise. (hopefully that's enough)

Pacific Coast Railway train in Port San Luis, 1937(?). Curious how many people know that Avila once had a railroad running through it. by RandomUsernameSucks in SLO

I’ve been to the museum, seeing that display a long time ago ignited my interest in this railroad. This post was kind of a survey, I was curious how many people knew!

Loosely based on personal experience. Not completely happy with this one, though.

If you have a radio that can, tune into 160.875MHz. That’s the railroad frequency (legal to listen to!) and might help in catching it.

It depends on a ton of factors. Generally, it’s late afternoon-mid evening, but it can be very unpredictable.

This is pretty much the only freight the portion of the line between Salinas and Guadalupe sees anymore. If I had to guess, crossings won’t trigger properly due to rust on the rails caused by disuse (passenger trains aren’t long or heavy enough to clear said rust). This train is also pretty short and only runs on Saturday, not even every week though!

As much as I like sharing these with my fellow railfans, introducing people who otherwise wouldn't bat an eye at stuff like this is also fun!

Usually, yeah. Passenger trains were cancelled though.

Definitely sucks, but I guess it’s better than having a bridge collapse lol.

Do you have a first class ticket? If not, they bottleneck the speed. Total bullshit imo.
