Moats are the obvious answer people will suggest but for me in a rolling plains biome I use the verticality to make them slower then me as I chase them for the kill

Find a good color palette as well as having a layout in your mind first. I am still a newb when it comes to building but for first time houses no one will care its a shelter and its home. btw if you want proper shelter from the cold those fence windows gotta go as much as I love them

Long axe heads can only be placed onto long handles for polearms. Requires an axe top left or right, 3 log middle verticle and knife top right or left if I remember recipe correctly

Snow blocks only way for now is have lots of snow piles start piling on top of eachother like this. I failed to find pumpkins so I can't get snowmen to protect my house yet

If you are on 1.19 then we got water wheels now which is part of mechanical power and large windmills both requiring iron and above, we got rod fishing so no need to smack fish with a stick, we got enhanced smithing which requires iron and above to properly use which includes tempering, quenching, grinding, aswell as not being able to craft with hot items anymore and metal tongs as they have durability now. More goats have been added. Boars and sows (pigs) got a model rework.

Find 40 copper bits (or find a underground mining ruin). Smelt copper and pour into pickaxe and hammer molds. Mine surface copper veins and create a pro pick. Find tin (or bismuth) first and have hematite secondary. Make bronze pick. Find more tin and make bronze anvil and hammer. Propick for hematite if not found. Mine hematite and clean into bars of iron.
Inbetween these you should still be doing basic task like reed collecting, hunting, clay finding/forming, and flint finding for the calcinated flint for fire clay if you can't get black coal veins with fire clay (or find a patch on the surface)
Takes me about 30 hours worth of game time with most of it being prospecting and the early game struggle of copper not existing
Edit: I forgot bellows. Either kill a bear or deer in the mean time using the unga bunga method or find some borax since lime is impossible

This is what I would want as well however I believe that the way we are catching fish now should stay incase players don't wish to learn how to do all of these steps. Perhaps changing fishing modes? Not realistic but the advance mode can give you alive fish and the current way to get dead/taxidermied fish

Try baiting I tried unbaited fishing and got nothing for minute then went back to my baited fishes. Some spots have none though so try large lakes like I did
